Has GnR invented a new genre/sound?

One of the knocks on GnR in the past was that they were never consider as a band that *invented* a new sound that could be thought of as a new genre, where the genesis of their sound could only be traced back to them.

GnR has been called a band that is like a *melting pot* of many different sounds.

With the old songs, you could easily pick out the pieces in them and trace their influences to some other band.

But GnR has never been considered one of those bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, NiN, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Beastie Boys, etc ... that are considered *NEW MUSIC*. A band that has contributed a *NEW SOUND* or created a *NEW GENRE* to the music landscape.

*New Rock* or *New Music* stations do not play any of GnR's music.

Music historians who have reviewed CD consider CD as a *melting-pot* of all music from the Beatles to the Hip-hop/dance sounds of today. These historians say CD is like a *history* of most of the popular music since the Beatles.

BUT ... is the music on CD *NEW MUSIC*, ie. where the sound is so distinctive and unique that it can only be traced to GnR?

Is this the LEGACY that Axl wants for GnR ... to be considered a band that has created a *NEW SOUND* and *NEW MUSIC* that is distinctly and uniquely GnR?

Or will GnR be remembered as just a *melting-pot* type band?

Nothing sounds like CD. It is so unique.

Actually. It is very unique in many ways.

I wish that the new album will continue this, and that they will not go into generic rock a´la DJ Ashba.

It would be fantastic if CD2 has kept all Buckets and Robins work.

they were never innovators/inventors, they just learned their rock history well.

"nothing sounds like cd"? it's more like CD sounds like other stuff.

Yep. The other day I was listening to Queensryche's Empire and it kinda reminded me of CD for some reason. Considered making a thread, but was too lazy. Parts of CD also remind me of Porcupine Tree, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Filter.

GNR is many things.. an ecclectic enigma .. the original sound was and still is a melting pot of an actual band of guys with similar but various influences that worked together in the same room at the same time and created a LEGACY sound....that sound still is more or less Axls bread and butter.Sorry for all you fellas who would like to rewrite history but ummm thats Slashes tone they are reaching for there....as is his scales and notes and chords... For ten years now or more AXL has toured t CD and AFD with a sprinkling of UYI albums ..his boys are directed to play "what people heard on the radio" and that is AFD mainly..so its a throw back to the "melting pot"

Until this band puts a stamp on its own music its main sound is still 80's-90's era. CD is ONE album with interesting concepts but your not seeing every band run out and try to emmulate it like they did with AFD.

Most people couldnt tell you two members in this band without having to cheat and google it on their iphone. Its a nice studio experiment album. Axl hasnt reinvernted the wheel here he just fuzzed up the sound with pro tools and ringer muscians. Its slick polished and professional rock and roll..everything Axl got famous for hating.
