Facekicker
There is just something inherently geeky about it. I can't imagine how you could have fun at a gig listening to that. It would be about as enjoyable as a model train convention in my book.
bacardimayne
There's a fine line. When it's pure wank like Bumble's early albums it's too much, but when it's applied well like on Ab/Normal it's cool.
Facekicker
Yeah the only thing is that the latter is exceedingly rare. To me it is kind of anti-rock if you like, nerd rock perhaps. Kind of like where progressive went years ago. And that was boring as shite. Do you think there will be a backlash against this kind of playing? Edited November 1, 2013 by Facekicker

Facekicker
I'd love to know what Axl was thinking when he thought this kind of playing, be it Bucket or Bumble, would fit GNR...
magisme
Bucket can create music in any style you can name, though. BBF, given the evidence, cannot.
MEXzilla
Yeah I've never really liked that stuff and most guitar virtuosos(dudes that do guitar albums in rock) sound like that. It's really cheesy and crappy to be honest, it's like having all the talent to becoming part of something great but nothing happens and you fall on cheese and BAM Via, Satriani, etc. comes out. Facekicker
I think that is what differentiates EVH from the other guys. He made it work in a way that had all the technical virtuoso but in a manner that also suited the song and had a decent melody. Forgive me if I didn't quite explain that correctly it is kind of hard to put it in words. I think there was a clear purpose to his work other than straight speed and showing off. The other guys just seem to forget tone and melody in favour of flat out pyrotechnic wankery.
wasted
Ive never really noticed evh guitar. Its just the drums and RLR.

The rest of his work on CD doesn't seem to capitalise on his talent

So Axl goes with Shackler's and Scraped? WTF? Bucket has put out literally hundreds of guitar tracks better than those since he left the Nu project. Guest Len B'stard
There aint none cuz its a load of bollocks, its nerds thinking excellence is measured by technicality instead of passion.
