All the short UYI versions always end up oversaturated with ballads and lacking any kind of cohesive sound. The only songs I wouldn't be saddenned to see go (and which i barely ever see mentioned) are

Right Next Door To Hell

Perfect Crime

You Ain't The First

Double Talking Jive

Garden of Eden

Don't Damn Me

Bad Apples

So Fine

Don't Cry (alt lyrics)

My World

That leaves 20 out of 30 songs which are imho just as good as AFD.

What?! Take My World away and those are some of my favourite UYI songs! How can you prefer an album filled with songs like NR or Estranged and leave out magnificent rockers like RNDTH, Perfect Crime, DDM, Garden of Eden, DTJ or the so underrated You Ain't The First?

A perfect UYI tracklist consisting of 15 songs (50% of the 30 altogether) would be:

Right Next Door To Hell

Dust N Bones

Live N Let Die

Knockin On Heavens Door

14 Years

Estranged

Bad Obsession

November Rain

You Could Be Mine

Civil War

The Garden

Coma

Dont Damn Me

Back Off Bitch

Dont Cry (original)

I think had they released a one disc album back in 1991, well first of all that right there is probably wrong. A one disc album would have been ready before 1991. It would probably have come out in 1990. Hell, maybe they wouldn't even have released Lies. A big part of the idea in releasing Lies was to tide fans over during the long wait for the next album. The wait was long largely because the band wanted to release a double album with 30 songs.

I think no matter what, if UYI was a one disc release, the next album would've come out around 1993 or 1994. The Illusion tour would've been shorter since they had less material to tour for. They would use the extra time to write new stuff. Who knows what the next album would've looked like though? Things would've been totally different if they were writing and prepping for a release in 1993/94. They would've stopped writing in 1990 when the new album would've come out, so whatever songs they wrote later that year and into the following year for the UYI I and II release (that actually did come out), well, those songs wouldn't have been written. Therefore, some of the songs RS has on that list probably wouldn't even have existed had GN'R decided to only release one album rather than two!! That shows how flawed it is to try to determine how history would've unfolded under a different set of circumstances.

Getting back off that tangent, the whole RS article is a waste of time. If you could pare the Illusions down to one album you'd be leaving off a lot of strong material. So why even bother? The Illusions were a massively successful release, that spawned a massively successful tour. There is no reason to re-write history. The Gunners didn't make any mistakes. Even My World had it's purpose.

It should be sumthin' like this:

1. "You Could Be Mine"

2. "Dust n' Bones"

3. "Right Next Door To Hell"

4. "Double Talkin' Jive"

5. "The Garden"

6. "Garden of Eden"

7. "Live n' Let Die"

8. "Coma"

9. "Knockin' On Heaven's Door"

10. "Don't Cry"

11. "November Rain"

12. "Bad Obsession"

13. "Cival War"

14. "14 Years"

15. "My World"

12. Coma

I think if it was cut down to one album you'd have to keep out all of the greats like November Rain and Estranged. They are some of my all time favorite times, but I dont think they would fit on a single album with the rest of Illusion songs. It would need to be more like Appettite and TSI , with in your face rockers. Thats also why I kept it to 12 tracks, just cause thats AFD and TSI were. The only two on there that i feel arent in your face rockers are Knockin On Heavens Door and Coma. Knockin On Heavens just seemed like it would spice things up a bit, and Coma just seemed like it fit to end the album.
