Videos You Tube GNR

wasted

Recommended Posts

I was on the plane and I think it was the Australian version of Rollingstone magazine and it had a bit about Becks new album (the information) and how he had done a video on You tube for all the songs on his album. I made me think about GNR. You Tube has been quite good at gettinmg GNR out there spreading the word via the NYC videos etc. Beck says that You Tube has been major in promoting his album and that these new video internet.

So what I was wondering is if there is a Big GNR Video in production or are they gonna do promotion like its the 21st Centruy - using the internet. People have said theres been no promotion for CD but really the "leaks" were huge promotion. To be hoinest even old GNR fans who liked wearing spandex have got the innernet these days so I think you Tube could play a big part in the videos of GNR even if they are on MTV i bet ill watch online somehow. Look at this HD ad for example - is that not promotion?

Is that still the case? I mean TV Radio and magazines are the internet. Like in the UK the rock show makes mentions of GNR but I listen to the show online. TV is different but there hardly any rock ads for albums. Magazines carry ads and do reviews which seem the best way to promote. It's normally a review which sparks my interest in a record. Like The Killers, when I read the review and relaised it was about that casino boss I sort of wanted to get the record Sam's Town. To me GNR is beyond promotion. If it comes out and they tour and do interviews it will sell. Like who wants to read a Finck interview?

I do agree with you, "wasted".

Maybe they use the internett as promotion. The leaked songs, you tube and so on.. But I think many expect a big promotion, since we all talk so much about it, and it's such a mystery "will it come out?" "when will it come out?".

maybe the "real" promotion (such as magazine ads, tv, radio ect..) will come the same day the album is released?

Well, if you go into HMV today and there's a big gay banner hanging from the roof saying Chinese Demcracy Starts Now and you can't buy the album I envisage a mini-riot. But I guess outside this forum people are getting on with their real lives, they don't neccasarily need a big fire work show or even the record come to think of it. Most people would rather go to a great show and down a few beers than buy the record and listen to it religiously in their bedrooms for secret meaning. That's right I'm drinking a budwhizzer.

Liked wearing spandex? Are you out of your mind....we wore that spandex so we could get laid- but it was hell on the nuts- ANd the big hair.. please...that was a sacrifice..and we did it so we could seed the next generation of disrespectful fuckers.

Also isn't it cute how us old geezers have computers and Ipods and 260 channels of shit on teh television to choose from and actually are in the know about such shit. If we were'nt out there trying to make a living to feed an clothe and pay for college tuition we might actually be able to be in the know about all the scene :P

But to reply to your question... like the old addage goes There is no such thing as bad publicity. Exposure in the public is exposure to teh public. Now a days there is so much cross marketing going on that a legendary band like Guns has so many different venues to exposure. This whole YouTube thing is a phenomenon in its self. Bootlegs used to be a rareity now they are common. Played right that could generate fan interest alone.

The HD ad(Better version) has 18,853 views. That may be a lot by internet standards, but it is certainly not enough interest to promote the album. I don't think many people outside of forum members are really spending their time searching fro CD info on the internet. It may very well be a good promotional method, but there will have to be some TV, magazine, radio and newspaper buzz generated to make CD a "hit". Personally, I don't give a damn if it sells 10 or 10 million copies, but music is a business and the record company wants a return on their investment.

Respect your elders. Rap moves on to the year 3000. I really don't know that much about computers myself. Like how the fuck they work. But I still manage to download a fair weight of porn daily, monthy and yearly. Which reminds me of another quote from The Departed (from that old Geezer Scorese.) Enter Alec Baldwin satge left:

"Micro-Processors. You don't know what they are. I don't know what they are. Who gives a fuck. Cash. Lots of it. In warehouse by the docks."

But yes the highway is jammed with broken heroes on last chance power drive.

The kids of Sunset Strip Dads will rule the world. Even if their moms remarried. Shit since my dad left my mom she seems to date only black guys who are heavily into hip hop. Like I can't hear my music over my mom getting fucked to Beyonce new single. What the hell is the world coming!
