Does anybody remember

Remember when it was cool to be in rebellion? Remember rock and roll? I read some of these posts and I percieve such a huge middle of the road-play it safe attitude in so many of the post here. When did fitting in become like the banner of GNR?

It is inconceavable for anyone to go through life without learning anything. When you get older you realise things. There is a certain primal beauty that you speak of. But this is not the same world it was 20 years ago. As the world changes everything must adapt or perish.

True. I totally agree. I certainly can't go into my clinic dressed with my colors like I used to.but I dunno ...I think there is such a huge degree of control exersized these days over the young that seems so unnatural.

Great music comes from times of protest. Thats whats missing is the will to protest anything. No broad statements get made.

I completely understand what you're saying. And it's a large part of what drew this moth to the GnR flame.

There's nothing wrong with an element of chaos to keep the current humming through the wires.

It's a highly entertaining element of GnR (for me anway)...always has been,it's part of what makes the GnR experience unique and above the norm.

I prefer Axl going on when he fucking feels like it...I get it.

I'm highly amused at the posts where people complain that they "had to stay up late and won't have time to eat their Cheerios in the morning...how DARE he do that to me!"

Chaos and rebellion is meant to be fucking rock and roll,it's the nature of the true beast.

yeah, i think that was before we had the internet

So chaos and rebellion are no longer valid elements of rock and roll because kids can now type whiney messages on computers while sitting in their bedrooms.

ok...duly noted

It is almost impossible to be a rebel in our day and age. Pretty much anything goes. People who were labeled as rebels 10-20+ years ago are mainstream now. When Nordstroms and Macy's and other department stores are selling punk and goth style clothing than it becomes obvious. When you can walk in and see doc martens on sale next to kenneth cole, it is pretty obvious that times have changed. People with the Rock and Roll mentality and rebellious personalities now are in charge of companies, they are CEO's, etc etc. The internet changed the economy of the country and how businesses are run.

Bob Marley was considered rebel music in its day and now it is played at Starbucks on constant rotation. Guns N Roses is played at nearly every stadium and arena for sporting events. Gay people run around the streets giving each other reach arounds and hardly anybody blinks an eye. Take any group that was once rebellious and they are just part of the equation these days.

If you can define a rebel these days than maybe you can find an answer.

These days maybe a rebel is someone who sticks to their guns in terms of moral character, belief, and actions despite what his or her friends and peers have to say about it. But you can't put those people into a box because you can't determine that by what music they listen to and what clothes they wear.

Certain groups have tried to conform to the "rebel" image. Take a look at christian music. 95% of it is just absolutely gay, but they try to dress like punks and act like punks for Jesus and it just makes them look foolish.

Bottom line is rebel is a modern era term and we are living in a postmodern world.

I dont believe these new songs by GNR promote any sort of rebellion. AFD caused mayhem with its liberal statements about drug taking and prostitution. A song dedicated to alcohol is always well recieved too!

Songs like 'CITR, Better, Madagascar' etc. just dont have the energy or the lyrics to inspire younger people. Axl is getting old, and that is blatantly obvious when listening to his music.

blah blah blah.... For all we know there coud be 8 songs on the album about drugs and prostitutes... AFD was not all about sex and drugs and violence

And have you heard anything to suggest that? Lets talk about facts, we can all make something up to cause discussion. The leaks dont show any kind of relation to AFD's rebel topics.

Fact is, we have basically only heard ballads... If my memory serves me... AFD and UYI's both had ballads on it.

Times have changed in the gnr world, as much as i love appetite i also equally love the new material, if anything the new album will rebel against the modern tripe that "artists" are spewing out, appetite or not this new album will be a much needed breath of fresh air within the music industry, i just hope alot of people will realise this also.

On a side note there are other bands out there you know....

Couldn't have said it better... I am almost 30yrs old now... I don't need an album to have anger, drug references, and stuff like that for me to like it anymore.

Im getting old (29) but I still think its cool to be a rebellion. The world as it seems right now is boring. CBGBs closing and a lot of the same things are happening in my country right now. All the places that doesn't fit in this rightwing society are closing down and NOBODY can see how wrong it is. Everybody just wanna fit in the same boring lifestyle and cant see how important these places are for the youth and the culture. Im still waitng for a revolution... But sometimes when I read these GnR boards I can see that the youth doesnt really care. You are a fan of this band, who are supposed to be authentic and the real thing but still NOBODY have any doubts about GnR going commercial and you being spammed by their fanclub about anything else but the band. All you wanna see is fucking promotion!?!? for chinese democracy. Fuck commercials and fuck promotion. What is important is the music. As far as I now GnR has never ever sold their music to promote other peoples products. I hope I will never see a lot of harley commercials with Better playing in it and I dont need a GnR lunchbox.

PS: dont worry about promotion, any recordlabel in their right mind use a lot of money to promote their big bands. They are the bands who are supposed to make the labels survive. 90% of signed bands are waste of money, so the bands that are already in the "starsystem" are the one they are spending their money at when it comes to promotion.
