The kids at the time liked Ted being over the top but it was always more about his guitar playing - then it kind of diminished - maybe it was punk rock, maybe Van Halen. KISS kind of started to fade around the same time he did.

It was the second British invasion of pop that was manufactured by MTV.

EDIT: I guess that I should add that MTV needed videos and American artists weren't producing them, so they had to rely on something; that something was British artists that were producing video.

Think about it; the biggest act of the late 70s -early 80s was probably Bruce Springsteen and I don't think he made a video until 85 or so.
