Same as this. I never really cared all that much about a reunion until it was clear that Axl was gonna do nothing with Bumble and co. at which point there was no real point in not having the old band back together.

I was just listening to the Axl interviews from 2006 on KROQ, they talk about how it's crazy that despite the long absences from activity fans still are crazy about the band, Axl basically said he thinks that fans basically have hope, or that they assign hope in a belief that in some way Axl can live up to their hopes / expectations for the band and because of that they stay along for the ride even when it's bumpy. He seems fully aware that people want to hear his music, and that he has an audience of mental fans that will buy whatever he releases.

I can't explain why he doesn't concentrate his efforts on releasing the next GNR record, having said that I don't know what he does with the 21hrs of his day, it is entirely possible that negotiations are either on-going or finished for the release or recording of the next album. There are so, so many questions. I eagerly await the day that GNR put out a new record, but I stopped really expecting anything or being excited about a record in 2013, which in itself was an achievement on Axl and GnRs part considering how much I love this band.

It's coming on 10 years since Chinese dropped, I cannot understand why Axl let the guts of ten years go by without releasing his next record... surely he wanted to get another record out so that people would have said "It took 17 years, but he just released x amount of records in a relatively short time" ah well, no use in crying over spilt milk.

I feel like that was probably the plan initially, to drop another album shortly after CD, but I think it's underperformance/trouble with the label really broke Axl's spirit in that regard. The difference between the 2010 and 2011 tours were night and day...all the energy and passion was just sucked out of him and that was the point where the nuGNR fizzled out, and it's obvious that something happened in that timeframe. In another world, Axl really could've legitimized nuGNR simply by releasing music...even if not all of it had been great, having a body of work of more than just one cobbled together album would've spoken volumes, and kept all us crazy fans along for the ride. It's downright criminal that someone so talented essentially blew over 20 years of his prime and creativity with only 15 songs to show for it.

All these great reviews, and has even 1 mentioned Dizzy?  Was he there?  :monkey:  <--- I was gonna put a Dizzy emoticon, and there isn't one, but Bumblefoot & Finck have two each.  OK then.

Heh, I realized I left him out, but I also really didn't have anything to say about him since he was on point as usual and I felt like I was already rambling on too long :P He was most assuredly there, haha

Alas, I am now the last of the CD-era fans who has not accepted the reunion :P .

I think I've accepted it because I stopped expecting the CD line up to ever do...anything, really. I had such high hopes for them to release more music and go in different sonic directions and it just never came to be for a number of reasons. And at 55, I don't think I can expect Axl to suddenly have that fire lit under him again, either. They were basically a nostalgia band by the time they were doing the Vegas residencies anyway, so they might as well have a couple of original members with em if that's the route they're gonna go. It's a shame Axl couldn't do more with the CD line up, but it is what it is, haha.

  4. Just grabbed a ticket. I've been on the fence for a while but...considering the rumor that this may be the last tour, and just the fact that I haven't seen this band since 2006, I might as well take the chance while I still have it. Plus, I can't help but find it sort of...meant to be in a way, considering that I've seen Axl, Slash, and Duff separate at their own shows and they're the three original members taking part in this whole shebang. I'm pumped!

Yeah, The Armed is brutal, I love that Untilted album. I don't know how I came across that band, but it was pretty recently. And for Death Grips, I don't know anything about their fan base. Would you elaborate a little more about it? Last year I visited the UK and wanted to get tickets to see them in Manchester but it was sold out. Bummer. Is there any other band I should pay attention to? Thx!

Well, most of Death Grips fans seem to be on the younger side, like 15-18ish, and all they seem capable of doing is turning everything they do into obnoxious memes. As long as you stay away from that side of things you're good lol.

I'm not really sure what might be up your alley, but there's this Japanese math-rock band called Tricot I've been digging a lot lately, and they just released a new album yesterday called 3 if you're curious. Hasn't been a lot on my radar the past few months though, I'm in need of something fresh too haha.

Fuck yes dude, The Armed is the last band I thought I'd see mentioned on this forum. Been a fan of them since...fuck, 2010 or 11 now, and it feels like they've been this insanely well kept secret that's never quite gotten the attention they deserve. Props on Death Grips too, their fan base is kind of cancerous sometimes but they're one of the few experimental artists really pushing the boundaries and gleefully fucking with the culture at large, and they never fail to entertain.

Listened to it some more and like it a lot better now. I'm with Zeppelin in that it's very consistent. Still don't love it but it's cool. You could do much worse as far as hip hop goes these days.

Just about my feelings on it too. It's a little TOO consistent, actually. Kinda wish there were a few higher highs, the whole things blends together a little bit. Still a really good album though.

We'll never know because the change of the season got to Axl and made him seek a new direction for GN'R. I have always thought that they were so popular initially for the exact reason that they were not doing what everyone else was, I am of the opinion that they could have put out a quality album, somewhere between the styles and ambitions of AFD and UYI to a good reception in 95/96; hypothetically (if they could agree on material etc). Saying "fuck what everyone else is doing, here's a Guns album" would have been the most Guns N'Roses thing to do IMO!

Honestly, I loved that Axl wanted to branch out their sound a little. If they dropped another cock rock album in the mid 90s or another bloated UYI-style record it would've probably been a commercial and artistic failure, imo.

I'm a huge fan of A7X. I think this song is truly them. you can hear it from the first drum beat. M. Shadows sounds amazing and I've always love Syn Gates' guitar playing.

I just ordered The Stage from amazon.com. Waiting for it to come soon.

I've seen them in concert since "city of evil". They rock and give 110% live!

I think these guys are showing they are back with a vengeance!:headbang:

Even though I'm not a big fan anymore, I totally agree. They're an excellent band to see live and there's usually so much energy. Last time I saw them was at Mayhem Fest in 2014 and me and a total stranger spent all of A Little Piece of Heaven screaming lyrics at each other like some sort of weird lyric battle, haha.

  10. Loved it on the first listen because of the new album hype, but my opinion is cooling down already. I dig that they went back to their older style a bit after HTTK and that they're not going for obvious hooks and hit singles this time around, but some of the songs just drag on needlessly and have no interesting melodies to hold onto. I actually wrote a long ass review for it here for my personal music blog.

See, I don't think that... Being completely honest with myself, I love and respect Slash for the songs he wrote and the work he did, with GN'R up until '94 but I thought that both he and Guns had moved on for the better. A lot of people in the community seemed really into Guns during the CD era, I used to meet people at concerts who'd travelled hundreds of miles to be there, this place was never short of discussion and up until all the Vegas shit started, there was so much potential... wasted. I just can't quite fathom that out of all those people, there's only @chevelle and I who feel the way we do.

Heh, I just spent way longer than I should have trying to put that sentiment into words and you did it way better. Like you said, it felt like everyone had moved on to different things, and Axl had a chance to move beyond that dirty rock and roll sound and do something new. A reunion at this point almost feels like admitting defeat and taking a step backwards, especially with how relatively little fanfare there was to Axl and Slash patching things up.
