  1. Personally I'd prefer to reinstate Robin and Buckethead (and Brain!) and get Axl back to 2006-level vocal fitness.

Or, alternatively, Axl/Slash/Duff/Fortus/Frank/Dizzy/Pitman. That'd strike a nice balance between the old and new, and would satisfy my long-held desire to see Fortus leaping about on a stage with Slash.

  2. I saw the Chicago show. I was impressed.

My greatest regret is that when the London show came around, I didn't bother going – I missed out on a ticket and figured, "eh, there'll be another tour."

FUCKSAKE. Not only did I never get to see the '02 lineup live, Buckethead has never returned to the UK.

  3. I've always felt that if Axl had bothered to get a vocal coach and personal trainer and got himself into his 2006-era shape back in '02, new GN'R's fate would've been very different. Imagine if Axl had come out at the VMA's looking and sounding like this:

They also needed to showcase the abilities of Slash's replacements – the VMA's performance didn't really give any of the guitarists a chance to shine, and inevitably led to wags saying, "lol, they need three guitarists to replace Slash." If they'd belted out Jungle and TWAT – the most obvious showcase for Bucket and Finck's talents – then, people would've leapt aboard the new-GN'R bandwagon.

I think people were genuinely open-minded about new GN'R back then – Buckethead and Robin's freaky look wasn't so different from other pop-culture figures like Marilyn Manson, Slipknot and Wes Borland, Bucket undeniably had the stage presence and guitar chops to succeed Slash... Axl ruined it all with that disastrous VMA's performance.

  4. I hate to say it, but Axl is likely to be much, much bigger the year he dies, than he has been, and will be, from the year 2000 until the day it happens. Whats really sad is the FACT, theres only an extremly select few people who will benefit from his death. And it's also painfully obvious whom this is. I'm not saying this is some "master plan" here. Not at all. Nor am I implying these people don't truly care about Axl. But facts are facts. Only Team Brazil benefits from his passing. Especially if they have all the contents listed in Manets Vault. There will be a catechism of activity surrounding the death of Axl Rose, on a much grander scale than Cobains, for those of you that had to listen for hours on end, on evey rock radio station, MTV, news, ect, about what a great, amazing, gifted, talented tortured soul Kurt was. And the onslaught of Nirvana memerolbilia that went on for 5 years after. If all that great material is still locked away when he dies, my guess includes the equivalent to 3-4 records, at least, just based on the comments made by Axl and everyone else who would have a good idea to how much completed material he has locked away. My guess is this scenario would be unprecedented. I don't know this for a fact by any means, just stating what I am aware of. But I don't know of any rock icon of Axls fame and noteriety, that went the grave with this much material still unreleased.

Edit-Forgot about Prince, but I consider him a pop icon, not a rock icon. I know it's splitting hairs, but there is a difference to me.

When Axl eventually pops his clogs, whoever takes delivery of the vault will immediately take the isolated Axl vocal tracks and get Slash and Duff to lay down some instrumental tracks over them. Assuming the other GN'R founder members are still alive then, of course.

  5. I find it kind of ironic/amusing, reading back through the thread, that the beef a lot of people had with Axl was that he wouldn't communicate with the fans.

So he comes on here and communicates with the fans, and they still fucking complain. What do you want, people, the moon on a stick? 'Cause that's happening tonight, too.

Anyway, if he comes back, my question would be: if circumstances allowed, would we ever see GN'R tour with Buckethead, Ron, Robin and Richard up on the stage?

Oh, and, Is it cathartic to have the record out now, after so long? With all the behind-the-scenes shenanigans and craziness associated with the GN'R name, is he ever tempted to just pick up an acoustic and do a few shows on his own, on the quiet?

  6. For me, the greatest thing is hearing that Robin's still in the loop, that the new band are behind this release. I was worried that the dominoes were being lined up for a reunion, between Azoff being appointed and the relative lack of promotion behind Chinese Democracy.

Glad to hear that the new GN'R is still going strong; I want to hear more albums with Buckethead, Ron, Robin and the gang belting out that multilayered rock. Fuck, I want to see Ron, Robin, Fortus and Buckethead up on a stage with Axl. One of the bittersweet things about Chinese Democracy was the thought that I'd never get to hear these songs played live by the guitarists who actually played the parts on the album - that Richard would be covering Robin's TWAT solo, or that Ron would be handling Bucket's guitar parts or somesuch. The thought of hearing Chinese Democracy with Ron's fretless riff and the Robin/Bucket duet has me salivating. :)

  7. So GnR can walk from this deal two weeks before a release?

Great fucking news, hold off on the hype ladies its all about to be flushed down the toilet.

Doesn't matter, once a few of the discs are out there, it'll leak. Fuck it, let Axl pull out of the release if there are discs in circulation at some point in the next month or so; we'll hear the album regardless.

  8. Is there anyone who's tabbed a decent version of the Mr Brownstone solo for acoustic? I'm talking about the sort of thing Slash does in the CBGB acoustic set. Even if it isn't authentically what Slash played, it'd be cool if someone could cobble together an approximation of his acoustic solo style... I'd really like to learn a fully acoustic version of the song. For those times when all you've got to play on is an acoustic. :)

  9. Just went into hmv today and the guy said while checking the computer "that's strange i swear it said march the 5th, now it says awaiting confirmation" so i guess its either been pulled out or moved to another date.

Hardly surprising if it said March 5th....seeing as the *tentative* date is the 6th!!! :P

Could be in Europe. We're going to get it a day earlier than the Damn Yankee. :)
