  1. A little bit of nostalgia with this thread...Buffalo, NY, July 25th, 1992, was my first GNR show ever.

It was a beautiful summer day, nice hot day...18 years old, tailgating on the 3 hour drive down the thruway to Buffalo with 3 of my buds and one of their older sister's, having a great time.

Caught in traffic, we had to bolt to some field behind an auto repair shop to take a leak b4 bladders exploded! :)

After more tailgating in the parking lot, time to make our way up to the upper level of Rich Stadium!

Faith No More was bad, really bad. They were like a soundcheck band I guess. Even their 2 popular songs were drowned out on the sound system in Rich Stadium.

Metallica was next and I thought they were excellent. They sounded very much like they did on albums...

...and then the wait...totally worth it, albeit long...the sun was setting...ahhh, what a great time.

GNR kicked ass that night. What a great fucking day/night.

and to think each ticket was only $25. un-fucking-believable! :)

I just saw GNR for the 6th time...Atlantic City was fucking great! Axl is unreal.

  2. I really don't think the security/venue would have their own set of rules on what can and can't be worn...why would they care? I think Axl passes down a list to security telling them what he doesn't want to see, and that included top hats and slash shirts. I really don't think anyone else would care enough to try to have it enforced.

So, you think the band has lied when they denied this...and venues wouldn't take it upon themselves to be proactive and avoid potential issues that in the past caused problems. Okay, got it.

  3. They played a few shows in the West Coast with that lineup. Look them up on youtube.

ya, i went to a few of those shows!

For real? Where can we find the setlists? I would like to see the videos as well!

Me too it's the first I ever heard of this....

They're pulling your legs. That lineup (if you wanna consider it that) never performed live.

Whether they did behind closed doors (all together) is beyond me.

  4. Does Axl have an expiration date?

Seeing as how Han Solo was in the clip, I'm glad Chewbacca weighed in on this thread. :)

Just curious, do the folks who worked with the band over the past 15 years have confidentiality clauses or do the overwhelming majority of them just like to speak in vague metaphors?

I would love to know what the fuck has REALLY happened over the past 15 years.

In-depth interviews with musicians, techs, producers, industry insiders...not just folks who heard from folks who heard from folks.

...and most importantly, Axl himself. Unrestrained, unfettered.

Honestly, I think it would be quite cathartic for Axl.

How great would it be to finally hear the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

I think Axl's got it in him, but for whatever reasons, he's holding back. :(

  5. Other sign that show Slash is a better person than Axl Rose. Better musician, Better Artist and better person.

Yeah, when I think of "better" people, I immediately think of drug addicts. They always tend to treat those around themselves well.

cancer: something evil or malignant that spreads destructively. (i.e. the cancer of hidden resentment)

Slash proved over and over throughout the years the term fits.

  6. Yes...because as we all know, people do NOT typically change between 18 and 49.

Well come on, in 2001 he was pretty much the same old Axl. 2011 Axl was a big shock to many.

The big shock came in 2002. The bigger physical frame was new in '01, but not shocking. The braids and constant usage of sports jerseys was a shock to many.

  7. Oh Jesus, seriously? Look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are the same person you were 10 years ago...15 years ago, 20 years ago.

The answer for just about everyone is, in some ways yes, but in many ways no.

The reason I kick around these forums is because many of Axl's traits haven't changed. The man has otherworldly talent, integrity and unwavering resolve. I respect the hell out of the guy and can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

  8. In many cases celebrities employ ghost writers to formulate a proper story and proper phrasing.

Honestly, he should've coughed up some money to employ such a person. I can't imagine reading all of the 300+ pages and not willing to rip open a math book just to check if my brain cells are all intact. Horrendously stupid "writer".

I think that makes the story more compelling. It's less likely to be a ghost-writer embellishing. Is anybody else a little surprised? I mean, we all knew there was antipathy, but that just seems to be emotional outlet overload.

I just can't picture Axl airing out dirty laundry to people he just met.

is there any wonder why Axl will never perform with this guy again?

  9. Def boston 02. I always say that. And not just cuz I was at that show. I've seen it performed like 6 times now. Axis vocals, along with his and robins stage presence, not to mention the stripped down version of the song is what makes the video...

I was also at the Boston, '02 show...I think it is the best Blues/SOD ever.

Rio's performance was a different version, but I liked that one as well...just not as much as Boston, '02.

I've always felt Axl's voice in '02 didn't work for every GNR song, but damn did it work well for Blues/SOD, LALD, and Madagascar. (in my opinion of course)

  10. Axl playing lead guitar would be a very bad thing...it would start with him battling himself for control of the band...being unable to get into a comfortable working relationship with the singer, and ultimately, he might consider leaving himself (a-la Axl flashing the peace sign to himself in the therapist's room in the Don't Cry video just before walking through the mirror)

    :)

Have a very Merry Christmas everybody!

  11. Because he's not the innocent victim, like he's tried to paint himself as. He's responsible for the break up of the original band, his 4-5 year isolation in his mansion, and the long wait for chinese democracy. He blames the old members, the record labels, management, etc. but the music business has been around for a long time, and no one else seems to have the same problems as him...

    Dexter bait

Is this post serious? I hope not...that's so retarded I don't even know where to start. If I was a nerd I would put the facepalm picture up right now.

If you were a nerd you would be calling people retarded on an internet message board ... oh wait. ;)

What he said was retarded...did you read it? He said "the other members sold him the name fair and square, he can do what he wants." I'm so sick of hearing that bullshit. Look, I love Axl as much as anyone else (well, almost...some of you board members are a little overboard) but how can you not call his bullshit? Especially on subjects like this...at least say "he legally strong armed the band into selling the name to him fair and square" because morally and ethically it was a slimy, dirty move to pull on someone, especially your "friends" who you rose from the gutters with to conquer the world.

As an entertainer, Axl rules all...I think most of us on this board agree on that. But as a person, he is very weird, egotistic, arrogant, bi polar, etc. Some of this might contribute to him being as awesome a performer as he is, but still. And only on this board do you find people who blindly defend his every move as if someday he's gonna knock on their door and personally thank them for standing up for him through all the years.

Sorry, your argument falls flat there. By that time, it's well-documented they were not Axl's "friends." Not even close.

  12. I'm a fan too, so my motivation is to stay true to Slash's sound.

I sort of resent that. Slash isn’t dead, nor is his vibe the prerequisite upon which Axl is developing New GN’R. I hope.

If Axl wants a vibe true to Slash then why not recruit Slash rather than an imitator? It’s disappointing if New GN’R is full circle and presently we have “classic GN’R” in everything but faces.

It's obvious Axl's done a 180 from his original plan in the late 90s. He hired a guitarist who looks like Slash, changed the image of the band back to a classic look, stopped playing new songs (CD isn't new anymore), covers lots of classic rock songs (sure sign of not moving forward), stopped releasing albums, etc.

DJ is doing what he should be doing and that's be entertaining on stage and cover Slash's stuff note for note. It's worked out pretty well this tour.

I love it. Do you honestly believe Axl "changed the image of the band back to a classic look?" Seriously? You really think Axl tells the fucking band what they should look like?

What part of the past 11 years are you watching?

It's quite obvious Axl doesn't give a shit what the players are wearing or looking like. It's about the music.

    That is a good thing.

"He hired a guitarist who looks like Slash..." HA! That's funny. DJ Ashba has a hat that's similar to Slash's. They both have dark hair. Wow, he's a fucking clone.

  13. This is probably a Dust N' Bones topic, but I wonder what Matt though of Chinese Democracy and if it sounded like he thought it would. It seems a lot of the band members at the time of the breakup, were worried about Axl's music ambitions. After years of hearing about Axl's obsession with industrial music I was surprised how rocking the songs were.

I wanna hear that 1999 Robin-Huge-Stinson-Freese album. Was supposed to be industrial and dark as shit a la OMG. Per that South American radio interview in 2001(?) the label suggested he rework the songs into what we got in 2008. Too bad.

Too bad for you, not too bad for me.

  14. The answer is obvious.

The man needed to induct GNR needs to be a man of few words.

He needs to be a man who knows the band well.

He needs to be a man who can communicate without saying too much...or in this case, anything at all.

I am envisioning a slideshow of GNR history presented by one Mr. Buckethead. A little robot dance, a little nun-chuk routine...and then the slideshow.
