Agreed, but realistically, you've gotta assumed (hope) that any performances and anything recorded will be owned by Guns N' Rose the legal business entity. It isn't like the rest of the band were random performers who perhaps need to give consent if there wasn't a contract in place.

Assuming they had the foresight to know they might want to release live shows some day....I would guess they took care of Adler/Izzy when they were buying them out of the band and it was stipulated in Sorum/Gilby's contract that they could use their performances for future releases. Again, assuming they had any foresight which could be a big assumption.

Comparing yourself to him and his circumstances doesn't make sense. Are thousands of people paying good money to see you perform? I assume not, so you being fat and out of shape and singing really badly doesn't matter unlike for Axl, because there's no one paying their hard earned cash to see that.

I think Axl's voice just is what it is at this point. It's been like this for years and he just had to cancel a show and work with a doctor and vocal coach so he could come back and have the same voice we've been complaining about for years....he can't bring back his 90's voice if he just puts some work into it.

His appearance doesn't bother me. He's 60, they're a legacy band, the majority of the audience is there to hear the hits they remember. Could he be in better shape? Maybe. Does he have to be? No.

For some reason, when Angus mentioned this, it made me think about Axl’s mental illness. Like, it’s rumoured (or perhaps confirmed?) that he has bipolar, right? That’s a tough thing to live with, even on medication. Maybe he is dealing with his issues in that regard. That would also explain lack of talking about things in public, maybe he doesn’t want to make a big deal about it.

A lot of "Axl being Axl" behavior over the years would make a lot of sense if he were bipolar and eventually started getting treated for it. I mean, didn't he have a psychic and stuff in the early 90's? I think he was doing therapy back then, too. There always seemed to be some unhappiness he was looking for the answer to.

I really don't think they're working on Axl's leftovers because it just makes the most sense, it feels like there's something they're working around something - and, really, this goes back decades. Why did it really take almost 15 years to get Chinese Democracy out and why did Axl go radio silent when it did?

Everybody here gotta realize that bands don`t make money from albums and EPs anymore. I guess Guns makes nowadays much more money alone with fashion licenses than with their records. So putting out an album now with no tour to promote in sight makes absolutely no sense at all. Possibly they  intended to have something out for the Australian / NZ tour, so that is why we got these EPs - but then again those marekets are also pretty small. So if something is coming, it would make most sense if it arrives in spring next year....but then again what does ever make sense in the world of Guns? Could also be that they just don`t care at all, as financially an album is irrelevant for them.

To all those people complaining thatwe only got and most likely will get only "old" music reworked by Slash & Duff.....You guys seriously need to consider how long Axl has been working / rewriting / producing these old songs. If you guys wait for an album written from scratch from Axl, Slash and Duff, chances are neither the band nor us will live to listen to it.

In general, I don´t understand what is wrong with working on "old" songs. We have to recognize that there will never be another album like AFD, the band had collectively a magic, unique productive moment in time when they wrote songs for eternity.

Everything written after 91 by individual members was never able to catch up to this magic. And i think it is an illusion to think that just because three of the original five are back together 30 years later they will be able to. Even if Izzy came back, it wouldn`t happen. So if they got something that has been sitting in the vaults I would love to see them working on it. I don`t think CD was a bad album, and if we get half an album with songs from the CD era with a Slash touch and half an album of Hard Skool songs (that possibly go back to demos from the stone ages...) I don`t mind.

But when was he last working on this old stuff?

I don't know what he's been up to since Chinese Democracy  but there's been little to no talk of him actually working on anything. All that's leaked seems to be decades old, it's not like he's been working on this stuff day after day for 20 years so of course he'd want to get it released. If Slash and Duff re-joined in like 2006 I'd understand focusing on what Axl already had but Chinese Democracy came out 13 years ago and now they're just playing with the leftovers.

It just seems like such an odd way to go about releasing new music that there has to be some reason behind it - and I suspect it's because Axl either has nothing to say lyrically or doesn't have the voice left to say it if he does. It doesn't seem like he's adding anything new to this stuff.

But the thing is we know he can still bring it just look at the AC/DC shows.

And in that Bugs Bunny cartoon, crazy as that sentence was to just type.

Maybe he can still bring it in small doses or in the studio but he's sounded how he sounds live long enough now that it's just what I expect.

  6. I said this in the show thread but I've been Team AXL for 20 years and I'm as pro-Axl in anything he does as a person can be....

But his voice is what it is. It's been like this for years and we're constantly telling ourselves it'll get better but it doesn't.

And their efforts towards new music have been to use whatever already has a 20 year old Axl vocal track on it.

  7. I love Axl. I was Team Axl for 20 years. I'm still Team Axl. I happen to be wearing a GNR shirt with Axl alone on it as I type this.

But there's a lot of evidence piling up that his voice is gone.

The way he sounds live more often than not,  the fact that their Plan A for new music is to rework songs that already have his vocal track from 20 years ago on it...

I didn't think he sounded great on Hard Skool but he didn't sound any worse than he does a lot of times these days.

Uploading a soundcheck of HS on Slashs official tiktok account was lame though. Unless he and the band really wanted to play it and it was on Axl to say no yet again

They could be teasing it for later? I mean, they just released ABSURD, releasing a new song now would be fast for any band, let alone this one.

Someone on Twitter or whatever it was saying Axl told them Hard Skool is coming out soon while the band soundchecks it like they've done numerous times doesn't mean it was meant to be released tonight like people assumed.

Adler claims that that’s how it was gonna be at one point, and then his back injury happened.

I've said it before but I would be stunned if they were going to introduce a potential timebomb like Alder to what was already a potentially fragile situation starting out.

Guest appearances here and there, okay, but being a regular part of the band on every show seems unlikely.

I'm not "owner of the truth". I just have an educated opinion based on what has been known - and common sense.

If Slash and Duff wanted Matt so much, they could have insisted on it before they signed the deal. There were two negotiating parties there.

In general it feels like there's some compromises being made so Axl/Duff/Slash can all get along so my guess is they'd prefer Matt but not enough to insist on it if Axl didn't.

  11. With how difficult it is to get Axl to release music for whatever reasons and it appearing that the music they're working on now are leftover CD tracks that Slash and Druff re-work while using Axl's vocals from 20 years ago....I'd say the next album is the last.

Maybe it's Axl's voice, maybe he just has nothing left to say....but Slash and Duff working on CD leftover feels like that's all there's left to squeeze out of GNR as far as new music goes.
