Favorites of the year, so far in no particular order:
Battles - La Di Da Di
Is that album any good? I was going to check it out, but I haven't really bothered with it yet.
Yeah, it's definitely a solid addition to their discography. It's all instrumental, giving it a little different sound to their first two full lengths, but in a good way. My favorites are The Yabba and Dot Com if you're looking for a couple tracks to try out.

Favorites of the year, so far in no particular order:
Ghostface Killah & BADBADNOTGOOD - Sour Soul
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly
Travis Scott - Rodeo
Jay Rock - 90059
Lupe Fiasco - Tetsuo & Youth
Big Grams - Big Grams
Iron Maiden - The Book of Souls
Battles - La Di Da Di
Tame Impala - Currents
Death Grips - The Powers That B
Dr. Dre - Compton
Ratatat - Magnifique
Still a bunch that I just haven't gotten around to listening - Tyler, The Creator, A$AP Rocky, Freddie Gibbs, Eric Church, and Blitzen Trapper among others - and still waiting on a few to drop that could definitely show up on that list (Pusha T's prelude to King Push comes out in December).

Of course! Doing all 3 nights for the Bosstones, as usual
Unfortunately, the Boston run probably isn't gonna happen for me this year - money wise, it's either that or New Orelans for 311 Day and I've never done a 311 Day (5 hour show, 60+ songs, etc etc) before, so that's probably gonna take precedence over something I've done a few times. I may yet rally for a Bosstones show though, are you doing that this year?
I'm doing some of the Boston run this year. I don't know if I'm gonna do St. Patty's Day or the arena show on the 19th though - I figure the arena show may be more special, since they always play on St. Patty's Day.Got a decent start to the early lined up:
1/23 - Tool & Primus - Nashville, TN
3/5 - Dropkick Murphys - Atlanta, GA
Hopefully making 311 Day in New Orleans happen tool
Word cotton. I'll keep you posted.

Pusha T
Run The Jewels
311
The Wild Feathers

Alright, where do I start with Bowie? Always meant to listen to his stuff and I like the new song.
(all sorts of helpful shit)
Wordddd. Thanks man. I'll do some listening this week.

Bitchin, salmon for days folks.

Fucking a, how did I forget Rodeo? That's probably knocking off 90059, which I still think is a pretty strong album. Tetsuo & Youth is definitely worth the listen, Chopper is one of my favorite individual songs of the year. I also still need to check out the Earl record.

Great track. Wicked pumped that it looks like we're getting two Pusha albums in the near future with the King Push prelude announced.
Now that the year is getting close to winding down, what records are in everyone's top 5 so far? Obviously there's still more that are scheduled to drop/could drop anyways, but figured mid-November is an acceptable time to start year end lists. Mine, in rough order:
Ghostface Killah & BADBADNOTGOOD - Sour Soul
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
Death Grips - The Powers That B
Jay Rock - 90059
Big Grams - Big Grams (I don't care if this is an EP, there's not a song I don't like)

The best response to this would be for the band to say they'll donate all profits from the campaign to the victims and their families.

Well. Just got done with one of the best runs of shows I've ever had. Over the past two weeks or so (less than that actually), I've seen:
Battles - Seeing these guys live brings a whole new appreciation to their music and how they construct it. If you're at all a fan, definitely go see them. If you're not a fan, check them out. Some of the most interesting uses of repetition, looping pedals, and electronics in a rock group that you'll hear. Highlights were Atlas and The Yabba.
Blitzen Trapper - Fun show, more of a "hey let's all just drink some beer and listen to some good music" vibe than Battles the night before. Gotta pick up their new record and probably should've done it that night, but oh well. Highlights were Black River Killer and Heart Attack.
The White Buffalo - First time seeing him with a full band which made his usual great show even better. If you've never heard of him, take the tv show Sons of Anarchy and make it into music. Good shit. Also need to pick up his new album. Highlights were The Bar and The Beer, Wish It Was True, and How The West Was Won.
Kendrick Lamar - Wow. This was probably the best show I've seen all year. He played all but one song from To Pimp A Butterfly and had a full band with him that really brought the songs to life. Incredibly high energy the whole way through and the encore of Alright was one of the best closing songs I've ever seen. Highlights were Wesley's Theory, m.A.A.d. City, Hood Politics, and Alright.
Y'all are missing out not living in ATL.

I agree, fuck the south!

Every time I read up on what Kanye's been up to for the past x weeks it just makes me mad as a fan of his music.
New version of Say You Will? That's what you've been doing? Fuck off.
Give us the Charlie Wilson Flashing Lights. Give us Bound 1.
What's wrong with a new version of Say You Will if you're asking for another version of those songs? Believe me, I'd love to hear those too, but I don't see what the difference is.

Pretty pumped for the next few weeks:
10/16 - Battles
10/17 - Blitzen Trapper
10/22 - The White Buffalo
10/27 - Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick's show is at a small venue with a full backing band, including (i'm pretty sure) Thundercat. I'm so god damn excited.
-
Afropunk got canceled
Blitzen Trapper and Battles on back to back night in two weeks should be fun.
-
I actually thought Cartman's dream sequence of Brady/Goodell was the funniest thing the show has done in the past few seasons.
I was in tears. Deflategate in 30 seconds.
-
I've been a White Buff fan for a while since he's done a lot of shows with Chad Stokes. Haven't listened to the new record yet but definitely going to his show in Atlanta in about a month, he's great live.

Bought a wiiicked last minute ticket to Music Midtown here in ATL. My main draw was Alice In Chains tonight and they kicked ass. Great to see them again after 5 years. Watched about an hour of Elton John from the back and that was a lot of fun. Drake was terrible.
edit: more on Alice now that I'm in a better state of mind - 1. Highlights were We Die Young, No Excuses, and Angry Chair for me. 2. If you're up front at an Alice In Chains show and get mad at people jumping around, take a long, hard look at yourself, and then fuck you. 3. The sound wasn't great but it wasn't bad enough to be an actual issue, so there's really no point in me typing that out I guess

I like the beat a lot. Vocals leave something to be desired.
-
I'm obviously biased since I lived in Edinburgh and only visited Glasgow a few times (once I got too drunk at an Eric Church concert and wandered around the streets blackout until roughly 3am, great times!!), but I really wish I spent more time there. Glad to see you'll be doing both - report back!
-
The Book Of Souls - The slow, grinding verses sound mean as fuck, especially with those off-beat china hits.
yuuup. I'm a huge sucker for china cymbals. Same reason why I instantly loved BU2B and it's still one of my favorites from Clockwork Angels.
