Ths seems to have gone by the wayside a bit, which is a shame as it's kind of cool to see and I remember the build up online to these shows. We would have KILLED to have had this at the time.

A lot of assumptions there. Who knows how much other stuff was worked on before and after that time. Just because instrumental versions are all that leaked doesn't mean that lyrics aren't done and vocals aren't there on other versions.

The whole thing? I thought it was an "excerpt only"!?
The whole thing is out. It's an oddity, but I really like it.

So I've been messing around a bit tonight with the files and so on, and put together a rough 'Chinese Democracy 1999' file made up from the recent leaks plus a few other bits here and there. My running order is:
Chinese Democracy (One of the two leaked this week)
Hard School
There Was A Time
The Blues
Catcher In The Rye
Atlas Shrugged
Madagascar (2017 leak - 2001 demo?)
Going Down
Riad N' The Bedouins
Silkworms
Oh My God (1999 End of Days version)
IRS
Prostitute (One of the two leaked this week - version 3, I think)
All of them are from this week's leaks except where noted. Think it's got a reasonable flow - two rockers to get started, then two rockier piano ballads, followed by the two more thematic songs, then Madagascar and Going Down to mellow things a little before getting into the 'industrial' side of things with Riad, Silkworms and Oh My God, then picking it up again with two final rockers to finish off and mirror the start of the album.

That was....not what I was expecting.

I don't think he was all that bad at all. He was always very enthusiastic and quite good at keeping in contact with fans to one level or another (Bumble was probably the one one who did more on that front out of the whole NuGn'R cast). While cheesy, he did keep the live shows entertaining and made an effort to really engage with the crowd.
For the first year or two, he seemed to be pretty serious about his role with the band and kept the 'Swag' stuff pretty low. I figure that after 2011 or so, he probably realised that it was just going to be a case of more endless touring with no chance of new music being made, so he figured he might as well try and get something else out of his being a part of GN'R. Hence we got the 'Swag! Ashba water!' stuff more heavily in those final years. To be honest, I couldn't blame him.
Also, Ballad of Death and Mi Amore are great solo pieces and I would not have objected at all to them being given official releases had Axl bothered to put an album out during those years.

I remember people trying to suggest Street of Dreams, This I Love and There Was A Time were about Slash .
If Street of Dream isn't about Slash I don't know what is

A lean and mean tune, I like it! Equally, it really makes you realise how wasted the last 20 or so years of GN'R have been when there's been stuff like this stored away with no sign of ever being released.
As great as CD is, this really makes you wonder what other great stuff Axl has had hidden away over the years.

Well, that was a fun weekend.
Back to business as usual. So, hands up who wants a toy truck?

Question for all -
I'm not a hardcore fan of any other band. Do hardcore fans of other bands behave like hardcore GNR fans? Do they hoard material? I alway thought fandom was supposed to be a communal experience. This is why sporting events and concerts can be so enjoyable. People who are passionate about the same things getting to share in that passion. Not meaning to criticize anyone I'm just genuinely curious.
You see, other bands make a habit of releasing material now and again.
GN'R fans, however, have to resort to things like this, sniffing around for new material like one of those homeless guys who loiter around train stations asking for loose change.
Give us a fix of new material, damnit!

I've said it before, but in late 2009 throughout 2010, I thought DJ was a good fit for the band. He brought out something in Axl that had been missing for years. It was when DJ saw the writing on the wall regarding new music that I beleive, he stopped giving a shit. His playing even got worse.
Nail. Head.

Which leak would make the best single for a new album?
in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS
Posted
Any new single needs to have the energy and kind of hooks to make people think 'Ah hell, Guns N' Roses are back!' and get people interested again. The success if the NITL tour goes to show how much people value that kind of material (plus the lineup change, of course).
From that angle, Hardschool is probably the best bet for now.
After all it's been a LONG time since a fresh single was released. Something that harks back to the old school chorus-heavy tunes of old will probably be the safest bet, rather than trying something more ambitious/different like Atlas/State of Grace straight out of the gate.
