  1. Considering they are using the most worthy stuff (and/or current lineup appropriate stuff) that didn't end up on Chinese Democracy itself, if, and only if there actually is a new album I would assume it to be mostly newer stuff with a couple of CD era tracks, if that

Which I am okay with, if Slash brings the goods such as an Anastasia-level guitar part to GNR I would absolutely love to hear what Axl could add on top of that

Steven Tyler is currently in rehab. And I’m no way trolling or making a false assumption/statement. The PR release about his voice was done to save face and possibly the remainder of their tour.

Has this been confirmed or is it just a guess?

I have yet to hear about rehab, and I specifically remember a friend caught Aerosmith right before the tour dates went in limbo and the vocal chord news, and he said Steven's vocals were absolutely fried - and that was even before all the news.  As of right now, unless anyone has actual legit sources, I don't think it is unreasonable to think that he was having vocal issues because his vocal chords were having issues

  3. I was just looking at the Twitter page and Slash thanked everyone for the best US run in the past 7 years since he has been back in the picture, considering he also mentioned this being the start of GNR's break as he goes and does solo stuff and mentioned doing new album stuff, I am hoping this means Axl is thanking the crew of the last 7 years just because of that and also that next time they tour some of the crew may be different people

Ooooof. To each their own, but to me, man, the normal version seems to have more, I dunno, intense momentum. 6-8 mins in the middle for all that, it usually killed it for me.

For me, as a guitar player and a Slash talkbox fan in particular, I just love seeing him go off lol.  The Live Era talkbox solo is etched in my mind and so hearing him improv it up for a bit on this groove and this key, I absolutely love.  And Fortus does a decent job too

I can see why one might prefer the shorter to-the-point versions though due to the directness of it, and I remember that is what they did at Glastonbury which worked really well too!  For me, I am a huge funk fan and a huge Slash fan so funky drums and his talkbox solo are right up my wheelhouse

That said, I did find the 20+ minute versions Slash did with his solo band a bit too indulgent so I can see the other side of it all too

I've really enjoyed the piano from Dizzy during the solo this tour. Gives it a bit of Stones feel to me.

I totally agree!  I was pleasantly surprised hearing Dizzy more in that break when I caught the San Diego show, it sounded great.  The break reminded me of the Symtathy for the Devil rhythm studio track a bit with the piano addition and the funky drums

What is it about this year...did Axl get some work done? As he just seems to have a look and been channelling a lot more of the 90s Axl aura and confidence that I thought had gone....he's soo relaxed and loving life, happy to play and be silly....

Shit actually,.if THIS was 91, 3 frames later he would of been mid air dive

    "MR security...."

Yeah in San Diego I noticed he looked to be in fantastic shape, slimmed way down compared to 2016.  Never saw him smile as much as he did that show either, which especially seeing old footage of Axl with a ton weighing on his mind it is nice to see!  He seems to be in a good place in life

If we ever do get a proper reunion album with fresh material, I hope it's full of more happy upbeat rockers with humour in again like PTU and GITR and angry upbeat stuff like RNDTH. Lots of these Chinese leftovers seem to be mid tempo.

I get what you mean, and I think part of it has to do with way back when, when Axl basically admitted to pivoting in style and not making a traditional Guns record partly because of Slash's absence musically - via his interview with Kurt Loder.   I think the combination of that, and having a ton of emotions to excise in the late 90s/early 00s, it gave way to a more serious vibe

Considering Axl has brought back Pretty Tied Up, Anything Goes, Reckless Life, etc. since Slash returned I kinda have a feeling if they ever actually did write new material, there could potentially be tunes that are just fun rockers for sure

I’m not surprised to see some people’s reaction. Like I tried to predict, the fanbase would be split on this, I just didn’t predict that it would also be split also because it’s a 2 combo track. lol

It's been fun revisiting the threads made a few days ago when the songs just leaked, seeing that so far it seems like the opinions on the tracks have kept consistent since they came out.  The general opinion of Monsters being the stronger of the two seems to be holding fairly strong so far with The General being the most split which makes sense in part because as a title it was hyped up so much over the years

Together, as one song they're actually worth the wait. Together they are the kind of an epic song that I always imagined The General to be like. Individually they're cool too, but nowhere near as great as they are as one song.

I'm not sure which one I actually prefer more. The General sounds a bit muddy. There's slightly too much effects on Axl's voice too. And I'm not a big fan of the "Don't know what to tell you now" part. But overall I really like the disturbing lyrics and emotionally speaking The General touches my soul more than Monsters does. If The General was just one song, I feel like it would end too suddenly too. It would feel incomplete.

Monsters on the other hand would need a better intro if it was just one song. Feels like it starts from the middle point of a song. Other than that Monsters is probably the more consistently good song, even if it doesn't hit me emotionally as hard as The General does. Monsters is a cool song, but it would feel incomplete without The General. Together they are a masterpiece.

I still feel exactly as you describe when it comes to both of them together.  I know that The General was just debuted live without Monsters, but man both played one after another, both having epic Marco Beltrami orchestration and whatnot, just still feels right when it comes to a singular journey.  And to me having both together fills out everything a bit more - The General having the repeated lyrics in the verses for example, doesn't feel as lyrically sparse with Monsters to go with it

Two answers, in two threads I happen to be browsing casually anyways.  If you don't want replies, don't make posts - I am not going out of my way, just having fun replying to silly posts I see along the way lol

You don't know shit what you're talking about!

Were you there at Rock in Rio 01 among three hundred thousand people?

I was at Rock in Rio 01 almost every night and lost count of the Guns shows from 01 to 2022.

You have no idea what Rock in Rio 2001 was and I'm not going to waste my time trying to explain the magnitude and atmosphere of the show.

Rock in Rio 2001's audience attendance numbers, being a festival, has nothing to do with the attendance of GNR as a standalone entity all the years nuGNR was a thing - so I have no idea what point you are trying to make

With Slash back, so many more people care about the band and the results speak for themselves, so the whole "Axl is GNR and $lash should go play the Barbie song" post you made seemed very "stuck in 2010" to me - that's all :shrugs:

  12. I must say, this currently feels like the most normal GNR has been in a long long time lol.  Songs are actually coming out from time to time, they are being played live, setlists are shifting and more deep cuts being played, etc.  I hope they keep that momentum of normalcy going during the downtime and capitalize on Axl having time to hear some Slash riffs and write some melodies and lyrics

Can anyone explain how the general is related to estranged? Sebastian said back in like 2007 that he heard the general and Axl said it wouldn’t be released until 2012, it was part of a trilogy or continuation of estranged? Maybe I’m remembering something wrong?

I do wonder if Bach misheard or misinterpreted what Axl was saying - it is hard to really find a connection thematically between three songs about romantic love and loneliness connected by the "Del James music video trilogy" (Don't Cry, NR, Estranged) and then a song about growing up with an abusive father figure that doesn't reference any other theme but that childhood situation

Although "Monsters" would thematically fit if you interpret the lyrics from a reteospective on a failed relationship as opposed to a reteospective on an abusive father figure.  So I have no idea what to make of it all lol

Three hundred thousand people is really less.

    Rock in Rio 2001!

    idiot!

Oh yeah cause after that first show in 2001 GNR played the Staples Center and Dodger Stadium in LA without Slash all the time, and certainly weren't relegated to the Wiltern theater by 2012?

And Rock in Rio certainly wasn't a large scale music festival that drew in huge crowds for the entire festival and all the bands there? Lol

There is no Guns n Roses without Axl.

Without Slash it existed for years.

Let $lash play the barbie song.

    sucker

All due respect, I don't think cares about this argument topic anymore, if you want to call him $lash and boast about how Axl carried on without him playing much smaller venues than with him, take a DeLorean with a time machine back to the year 2010 and go on a date with Volcano62
