  1. I think this signals the end of Axl trying to legitimize modern Guns.

If anything, this is the strongest "legitimizer" of modern Guns yet. And it's come in the most ironic of places.

Despite being regarded as the "weakest" of the new line-ups (here), one of the Appetite 5 has agreed to become part of it (albeit temporarily). There was once a time when old members were satirically dressing up as members of modern Guns, now you could describe one as being a member of modern Guns.

So, bringing back an old member legitimizes the new lineup? Wow.

Exactly.. I thought Axl wanted to move Guns into the future. LOL yeh...

  2. am I right in thinking Thin Lizzy don't have any original members?

    Correct.

I think Smashing Pumpkins is the best comparison

Billy and Axl are both insane

Oh god, this. Billy's even worse than Axl, when it comes to the members of the band. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Smashing Pumpkins has had something like 20 members besides Billy himself, yet he only acknowledges about nine of them as being full fledged members. Everyone else, even the ones who have recorded with him, have just been "touring members."

Queensryche looks like it may be headed this direction, too. Hopefully not, but there's a chance. To be honest, I've always seen Geoff Tate as the "Axl Rose" of progressive metal. They seem to have similar attitudes, and both have suffered from horrible voice deterioration, from what I can tell. Hell, they even looked similar for a little bit, course, Axl hasn't shaved his head yet, but that's only a matter of time.

Also, wasn't Black Sabbath kind of like this for awhile, except instead of the vocalist owning the name it was the guitarist? I may be wrong on that one, though.

Edit: Touching on the Smashing Pumpkins comparison again, Billy's relationship with James is very much like the one Axl has with Slash, although Billy talks significanlty less trash about James, but when he has it's been pretty brutal. James has also gotten to be like Slash, pretty much saying "Whatever" to what their respective vocalists have said about them. Jesus, when you think about it, Billy and Axl are almost the same guy.

Billy wrote and played most of the parts except for the drums up til Zeitgeist. I don't recall Axl ever playing bass, lead guitar, rhythm guitar(except for that song on UYI) on any Guns records. That is the difference. Billy was always the main songwriter in Smashing Pumpkins, much like Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. Guns were always a collective, where they would jam out songs as a group and build it from there. Unlike the joke of a band it is today where they only see eachother on tour.

I think Smashing Pumpkins is the best comparison

Billy and Axl are both insane

Billy Corgan wrote all the Pumpkins music. Axl did not write all the GNR music.

This. Corgan also played most of the bass and rhythm parts on all the Pumpkins records up to Zeitgeist.

I realized how out of touch with reality Axl Rose was when referred to himself as the 'Last Man Standing' in his big Mygnr letter.

Last man standing because he drove everyone out with his bullshit antics.

  3. I'm not dininishing Freddie's songs that he wrote with in the band context, but he had others adding their own parts, just like what happened in gnr. November rain would have been a lot different without Slash's guitar work, same applies for Bohemian Rhapsody, and every other Queen song. But Prince actually wrote and played all the parts to his hits, thats a BIG difference if you ask me.

Again, I'm not trying to sell Freddie short, but everytime this topic of greatest frontmen/singers gets brought up, many of you say Freddie and think he is the end all be all of the discussion. So I keep throwing Prince's name into the hat, yet NO ONE has been able to provide any sort of facts or anything for that matter that shows that Freddie was better than Prince. Obviously it is all very subjective, but honestly how is Freddie superior to Prince in anything? Honestly I would say Prince is superior to Freddie in about every way. Which that is just my opinion, but come on, make your cases people. What could Freddie do that Prince couldn't other than make an opera album? But Prince could make dance, hip hop, funk, soul, and many other types of music that Freddie could only dream of making.

So many of you pray at the alter of Freddie Mercury (which is fine, he was in fact a legend) but I have indeed found the answer to the question "who was better than Freddie?" His name is Prince....

Oh and just calling Prince a douche is hardly an argument. Even if you think he is a dancing little fairy, Freddie was an ACTUAL fairy, so that arguement doesn't hold a grain of salt.

Freddie's as a VOCALIST is better than Prince. No one is talking about his solo hits except for you.

  4. Why doesn't he use rasp in his live performances?

Why doesn't he rehearse properly before a tour?

Why does he show up late to a performance?

Why did he take 15 or so years to release one album?

Why doesn't he release an album of new material?

Why can't he book a studio and get his employees to write some new material?

Why does he feel the need to tour endlessly with the same setlist?

Why does Guns N' Roses have an amateur management team?

..... Nope, can't think of one good reason why Axl deserves crap, being the flawless man that he is.

These factors are all under Axl's control and yet, he has shown that he really does not give a fuck about giving it his best shot. No new songs, same setlists, shitty voice, piss-poor management, etc. No one would really care if Axl showed up 20 pounds heavier if he sang like he did in 2006 or 2010. But here he is, bloated AND sounding terrible. Clearly did not rehearse or prep his voice for the tour. Shows how much he really cares. I think after the debacle of the botched Chidem release(which was mostly Axl's fault because he went overtime and overbudget), he realized the label were not going to put out another Guns record with the promotion and effort that he felt it deserved. Hell, the label might not care for another Guns record that doesn't feature Slash and simply are not interested in Axl's bullshit antics.

  5. Who cares about information or plans that haven't materialised yet, sure for those who are inquisitive it would be interesting to know, but I personally don't give a shit until it comes to fruition, by which stage we will all know by then anyway.

Why seek out information to only be let down by it not happening days/weeks/months later or never

    This..

It does not make one iota of difference what their tentative failed plans were. It would not serve a purpose at all.

  6. And yet, the Slash section remains dead. Curious.

Lol where is the correlation? Not everyone putting Axl down over his voice is a Slashite man. Some of us are just very disappointed and frustrated that Axl sounds like utter garbage. If he isn't going to put out a new record and isn't going to play new songs live, fine. But at least sound good for your fans who see or want to see you live. I know I won't be going to see Guns again unless there are significant changes in his voice...

Way to take what I said out of context. I was responding to what ProstituteComa said, which was the post directly preceding mine. That's the correlation, slick. Nice try though. You do realize people can click on that little thing on the right side of quotes and be taken directly to the quoted post itself, right?

Praytell, where did I say "everyone putting Axl down over his voice is a Slashite"? Show me. Because y'know, gee whillakers I'll be goshdarned, I can't seem to find it.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Axl needs to be held accountable for the mr. hanky/helium/mickey voice. There are people paying to see the show, and I don't fault Axl if he can't do rasp all the time, but he needs to find a different vocal timbre if that's the case. See there? I might have just agreed or sympathized with some of what you just said. Imagine that.

Hold on there little boy. This is not the first time you have brought Slash into a thread that is negative to Axl or pro-old band. See here:

It makes me wonder "Why did Slash sign the name over like a pussy?"

In the thread, the OP posted a picture of the old band and asked what our feelings were. You replied with that. Don't condescend me when we ALL know exactly what it is you do. You do the very thing that you complain about others doing.

Also, just to rub salt in the wounds, YOU were replying to Dr DOOM, not ProstituteComa. You even fucked that up. You expect us to know who you were replying to when you yourself did not even know who you were replying to.

  8. ...Then can you guys post a video of yourself singing it?

    lets go.

obviously no one here heard him try and sing YCBM in the 90's... bunch of kids with keyboards. Where's your videos? This could be fun!

I'm genuinely looking forward to hearing these vocals. I'm not a being a dick. I'm very curious now to hear them! Signing off for the night but please leave some links for everyone to check out, i'll be back to listen to them tomorrow.

LOLLL. Great logic bro!!! We are not professional singers idiot! Nor are we claiming to be. Axl on the other hand IS a professional singer and is sucking very badly at it.
