  1. I remember an Indian guy I worked with telling me a story about a train being in India set alight with gasoline, and the leader of that province or state declared that for the next 72 hours or something it was open season on Muslims there...I think in 1992 he said.

Is this (new PM) that guy? I'm pretty sure my friend didn't just make this shit up.

edit: just reading about "the Bombay riots" etc

In 2002 Gujarat riots took place. Around 1200 people were killed horribly. In fact there is a sting video of Babu Bajrangi done by Thehalka (available on youtube with english subtitles) where he talks about how good it feels to thrust a sword into young boys and how he burned a number of muslim familes during the Gujarat. In the sting he claims that Modi (the next PM) had given them permission to go and do whatever they want and no police force would be seen for the next 3 days. Its a chilling video.

That man, Babu Bajrangi in now in prison for life for his role in the riots as is the then minister for women welfare (i think). The trial court did not find anyting on Modi and had given him a clean chit. The matter will now go into the high court as appealed by a muslim woman whose entire family was burned after hindu fundamentalists broke into her house.

Were the riots preplanned? was it a genocide? The fact is that we will never know that for a fact. If it was done then the main culprits will never be found as they never are in such cases.

But what no one will deny however is that he certainly used the tensions after the riots to his benefit. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat when the riots broke out (the US equivalent of a chief minister would be a Governor) and he has been blamed for not doing enough to control the riots. The then Prime Minister Vajpayee (of the same party as Modi) told him in a press conference that he is not doing is Dharma or duty. The then Chief Justice of India called him the "modern day Nero who looked the other way as the cities burned"

Many in the media has been constantly hounding him for his alleged role in riots. He even once walked out of an interview when the journalist asked a question about the riots.

However in the decade which followed he has improved his impression significantly primarily based on development of his state of Gujarat which has, to be fair to him, seen a fair amount of growth. With many industrialist and businessmen backing him and with results to show he made the electoral campaign mostly about development and growth and how he can bring about the same development across the country.

After 10 years of the previous Congress government which has seen over ten scams amounting to more than ten thousand crores rupes each and a frustratingly mute PM anybody who could convince the people that real development is possible had a good chance of winning.

However, what is sad though is that how for most voters (note that this election had seen most number of first time voters) development seem to right other wrongs. There is still a case pending against him and as far as circumstantial evidences go, IMHO he is guilty of negligence during the riots if not a genocide. And yet most voters believe as long as he can help india grow at a steady rate all should be forgotten.

While there are sections of the population which adores Modi for championing Hindu rights, indians largely will not accept divisive politics... one of the reason why the ruling BJP lost the general elections after the Gujarat riots took place in 2003. And for this reason Modi will have to be very careful how he conducts himself in the top office.

  2. Hard to say, NSA's denying they knew about it, but sources seem to say they did. I'm generally a defender of our government's defense practices, but if this is true, I could not defend this. I'm curious as to the exact code that allowed for the bug. I doubt I'll change any of my passwords, there's too many across different websites - I know that's the wrong attitude, but I'm just gonna hope for the best. :shrugs:

Probably shouldn't post that, if any unsavory types are reading it that's like a "come hack me" advert.

Apparently the culprit is this line :

    buffer = OPENSSL_malloc(1 + 2 + payload + padding);

in the openssl program. The problem is that there is no bound or length check to ensure that the allocated memory does not exceed beyond allowed length and as "payload" and "padding" are user control values, a client can use this buffer allocation function to read up to 64kb of data off the server's RAM.

Anyone who might had stumbled upon this bug would have made a program to keep on reading 64 kbs of data from the target server. This exploit has been there for the last two years so its anyone's guess as to how much information has been stolen from the target servers.

Popular websites such as google and facebook have put in a bound check and they are now safe so changing your password would mean your new password wont be compromised via this exploit.

Personally though, i realize its crazy how insecure our data is even with the most trusted of services but i don't think it would have been that easy to steal any relevant data from the web servers and most of us should be pretty safe. But just to think that our password (or session id) could have been read by someone and used to read our mails etc is frightening,

  3. is there any real reason giving why Bucket, Brain, Josh and Robin left? I mean bullshit reasons aside, what was the real reasons that they left?

To be honest, Bucket's reason seemed heart felt and genuine. He simply got frustrated with the lack of effort from Axl to put out new material.

  4. As I said (and must stress) my timeline is all conjecture, but I base it off of three things.

    1. In the chats, Axl clearly had no ill will against Buckethead, and seemed to place ALL of the blame on management at the time.

    2. Quite awhile before the press release from Axl, the sings were there that Buckethead was out. He took out all of the Guns N' Roses related material from his site.

    3. Axl worked to get Buckethead back into the fold until the last possible minute. It was written in Ron's contract that he could be replaced by Buckethead at anytime prior to that first show in 2006. I.e., if Buckethead had shown up to the Hammerstein with guitar in hand 5 minutes before Axl took stage, Ron would be out (I'd guess still paid though).

As for the original posters question, I would guess Buckethead singed a two year contract when he joined on. It was probably in the process of being renegotiated when he left.

How do you know this part?

yes i am curious about that myself. It seem like that Axl wanted Bucket to come back but how on earth do you know about Ron's contact :P Anyway great post that.

  5. I haven't watched it since the Stone Cold era.

Same. Was a big fan back in the day.

The thing is that if you have ever believed it to be real you end up feeling like an idiot when you realize it was all scripted. I dont mind people watching it for the entertainment value. But when someone starts defending it saying it is real that's when it gets a tad irritating. They are athletes and work hard to get in such a shape but it isn't sports.

Also, why is it tagged "no homo"?

  6. At this point its hard to imagine Axl being serious about music. Why would he ever want a reunion? I reckon he is happy the way things are going. If he is ever short on cash he can always leak a few songs and tour the world. Maybe they should just get in a room together and talk about the weather or something first. Try to see if they are ready to forgive and move on. If you were in their shoes wouldn't you want to?

  7. i agree with the others, it's really annoying when people make polls but then don't provide all the answers.

Voted Going Down, but should there not be options for Blood In The Water and/or Better Gone?

you are right except i only included the latest leaks and well as far as i know people are still skeptical about BITW being authentic. Same could be said about the Better leaks but the fact they were leaked around the same time with Going Down gives them credibility.

EDIT: If the mods feel any other song should be included then feel free to edit.

The problem is that you can't really edit a poll after people start voting, otherwise the results are fucked, so what's the point?

ah i see. i actually really dint see the point of including BITW and isn't Better Gone a bit old?

Anyway, sorry for the inconvenience. I wanted to know what the others though about yesterday's leaks and really it did not occur to me to include BITW and Better Gone.

Ok... if the mods agree they can always delete the poll and have a new one with all the "answers".

  9. is it me or does this seem like Tommy singing about Axl? look i don't know what the song is about and how is the relationship between Axl and Tommy (and i couldn't care less) but as i heard it this is what i thought of straight away,

i guess after watching Tommy throw his guitar and walk of the stage i kind of always think of him as being miffed by Axl :shrugs:

Get into your car and drive
Just as fast as you can
    You've had your 15 minutes
You tried to take an hour
    Not no one, easy call

Imagine if it is indeed about Axl... how cunning they have him singing the backing chorus :takethat:

  10. To be honest i get annoyed by the belivers on this forum. most of them seem to believe that everything written in the holy book of their religon is the absolute truth. They wont hear a word against it as if their prohpets and their book has it all figured out. Even though the athiests on this forum come across as smug, i can tolertate them.

  11. Before going into Riff Raff Axl said "We are gonna play a song to entertain ourselves now" (is it normal for Axl to mock the crowd in that fashion?)

I believe he didn't want to mock anyone. They actually play Riff Raff and Rosie to entertain themselves and get themselves in the mood. They said it before.

    oh. k that's cool then.

  12. So they started TWAT but played Nice Boys instead?

yes. Axl made them stop and they started playing Nice Boys. In fact the band played without Axl for a while as Axl had gone backstage for some reason. But sure enough he returned and played.

I think they would have played TWAT after Nice Boys but they couldn't due to local laws.

  13. How was the show? Bad, Good, Great what?

It was brilliant at moments and their were times i just felt like going home (seriously). The show was opened by a band from Texas called Brand new Machines but you could tell no one was interested in listening to them. They did have a few good songs; their guitarist was great. They also did a Hanoi Rocks cover.

The band came at started playing and before i knew It So Easy had just ended. A word about the crowd: I was stuck in the Sliver (back) section and the i can tell you most of the people present their had come to listen to SCOM and NR. They just did not seem to be having a good time for the rest if the shows. The energy of the band's performance was just not transferring to the back. I don't know how it was for the people in the front but i have a feeling even they were not into the band in the starting. Actually Axl did mention something about how the Guns N Roses sounds is probably too heavy for the crowds. "Help me! Guns N Roses are killing me!" That's what he said before going into Mr. Brownstone.

This I Love was unreal. I always though the song was a little corny but live it was powerful. Axl's voice was full of emotions and the guitar solo sounded solid as well. I don't think people were into the band till now and the band could probably feel it. Before going into Riff Raff Axl said "We are gonna play a song to entertain ourselves now" (is it normal for Axl to mock the crowd in that fashion?)

SCOM was probably the best performance of the night. The people were on their feet as soon as they realized that DJ's solo is leading into the opening riff.

I think during November Rain Axl was really singing well. I was overwhelmed with emotions watching him play that song in front of me.

I was hoping for more crowd interactions from Axl. Even during KOHD he did not ask the people to sing along. Though KOHD was perhaps the longest performance of the night with Axl admitting that he wasn't feeling it before but now he is having fun. And you could tell he really was having fun. He was moving around the stage all the time and had a smile around his face.

They took out their acoustics before playing Patience which was cool and i hadn't been expecting it. Their last jam lead to Paradise City and after that the stage lights were off.

"Do you guys wanna hear a couple of more songs?" i stopped and turned around and there he was! I think someone from the organizers said that they are not allowed to play after 10 o clock to which axl said "you are telling me what i can't do. That's not cool" They played Nice Boys. To be honest it was one of the better performance of the night and the public really loved the fact that Axl and the band were playing bonus songs. Still we wanted more but Axl just looked at us and said "you want more but they wont let us play" threw is mic on the stage and left. Patented Axl move isn't it?

Nice Boys, The Seeker, NR, SCOM were good performances where on the other hand many of the songs felt dull and lacked energy. Axl was struggling with his voice during the rockers, especially with the older songs. But on slower songs he was pretty great.

The solo spot's were also very entertaining especially that of Stinson and Fortus.

The show got better as it went and i am sure most people got what they had come for.

  14. Returning back from the show. As u guys already know guns playes nice boys after PC. After the 'good fuckin night' bit we were all leaving but Axl came back and said 'do u guys want us to play a couple of more songs?' the band started playing TWAT but axl made them stop and instead they played Nice boys. Lastly he said 'u guys want more but they wont let us' referring to the authorites... Threw the mic and left. I gotta tell u he wan not into the crowd in the starting... Even saying something like ' we r gonna play a song to entertain ourlseves now' but as the shw went he was having fun. He loves to perform!. Anyway. Will post a review if i can.

  15. all set from tomorrow. i am still not sure about the venue though... when i went there for the Metallica show it was so badly prepared using makeshift tents that it looked no bigger than a wedding ground.

So far i have read only good reviews for the organizers so i am hopeful this time everything will go smoothly.
