Whole Wide World is still my favorite track, but it’s an album chalked full of bangers for me.

It rocks live, too. I am definitely picking up that live album they are putting out for Record Store Day. It is the Hackney Diamonds release show. Short, kick- ass set and WWW is a highlight

  3. Motley just sucks live and diluted their brand with their shit- show of a reunion. I don't think I can name a worse reunion. Playback controversies, Vince Neil sounding consistently unlistenable, and then the coup de grace of them dropping Mick Mars. I have long outgrown Motley Crue but I can see why promoters and Motley Crue would be excited about the prospect of a GNR/Motley co- headlining tour. That would be easy for them to market and most casual fans lump both bands in, together.

It would be way more lucrative for Motley than for GNR, though. Motley is playing a B- tier casino in the middle of Michigan, this summer. That is NuGNR circa 2013-2014 level territory. They need big acts to play the big venues, whereas GNR don't. I could definitely see GNR having Motley as an opening act, but I doubt Motley Crue would allow their egos to accept that.

I could see GNR partnering with another mega- band one day for a co- headlining tour, though. They surely do well in larger markets (the Boston and LA shows I saw in 2023 were pretty packed), but they struggled when I saw them in Detroit in 2021. I don't think they would go for Motley Crue, but a double- bill with the Foo Fighters, Metallicas, AC/DCs, Queen + Adam Lamberts, Aerosmiths of the world for one last stadium jaunt could be possible.

Their quasi-reunion is a little underwhelming, but at least they've released a few albums and are still a solid live band. 2012 was the first time I saw them, and they were incredible.

Agreed. It hasn't been the same since Church of Rock N Roll imo. Gonzo and then disbanding was a big mistake imo, as they had some amazing momentum in 2012. I saw them 3 times that year and they were a force to be reckoned with. Got to hang out with some of them at the gigs, too. They were really cool dudes at those shows

I haven't seen them, but I know people who have. If you like their music, their show is enjoyable. But 'pyro, big choruses and big hits' also applies to bands like Motley lol. Someone like Carrie is supposed to be a left-field choice, she's successful on her own and would bring a different audience, but there's also a connection.

I'd like to see them get 'weird' with the opening bands - Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, Yelawolf, Foxy Shazam, Jelly Roll, Stop Light Observations, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, there's tons of cool artists they could bring on tour. I've seen 6 shows since 2016 and Alice In Chains opened 4 of them... I like AIC but give me some variety lol.

I saw Foxy Shazam open for Slash in 2012

We have this regarding the current official business status of the band:

GNR is a musical group and partnership organized and existing under the laws of the state of California with their principle place of business in Los Angeles, California. GNR’s general partners are W. Axl Rose (“Axl Rose”), Saul Hudson, pka Slash, and Michael McKagan.

    https://www.a-4-d.com/t8330-2019-05-09-gn-r-vs-canarchy-craft-brewery-lawsuit-document-related-articles

We also know that Slash and Duff have their own separate management.

And two of the partners don’t care if one of the partners wants to release old songs, so why would they unnecessarily rock the boat?

It is easier to avoid songwriting and recording, mentioning current GNR affairs in media, and accepting the CD era and why shouldn’t they? The band is basically a business partnership at this point. Getting along for the good of the brand only benefits fans and their legacy.

I wish there was more new music, but that is an Axl- thing and not a GNR- thing. We didn’t get a thing (aside from the live video and album) from 2009- 2014.

They aren’t abundant, but at least we have gotten some great releases out of the current era,

    Sound City Sessions

Ritz 1991 live album and video

    Last Vegas 1992 live album

    Shadow of Your Love

Four redone CD leftovers (with more on the way)

Shit, I’ll take it. There’s some good stuff up there. Hoping for more live shows and CD leftovers. If that is the best we get, I’m okay with it.

Well not exactly....I don't think the quotes of material completed were an albums worth they had done...in past 2/3 years perhaps they have done some more though...

Absurd, Hard Skool, Perhaps, and The General. Plus Monsters will come. I don't think it is that crazy to assume they did 3-5 more to make a short LP's worth. I can see them slapping them together with a cover and selling them as a 12 inch record through their online store. I'd definitely buy it, Shit, you could even throw on some live tracks which they already did with the Hard Skool singles (Absurd and Shadow of Your Love and even Don't Cry and You're Crazy with the CD, right?)

Do we think at this point, Slash has done the majority of his job, regarding the "next" GNR album? As in, the rate he works at, I'm sure he's recorded a few albums worth of songs banked for that (if it ever comes) day....now obviously it be nice to make it all together organically but TBH, not too dissimilar to the band members all going away and turning up with their contributions UYI style....so I imagine, Slash is desperate for Axl to give the green light or collaborate but I do get a good vibe and tone of Slash's responses to LP questions and while of course if he knew it wasnt coming, he may still be vague BUT there's a certain tone to the answer he often gives that always sounds knowingly optimistic...yet slightly frustrated...Everything has been fairly accurate, albeit in John Woo slow-mo...so Slash will fully be expecting to record stuff whenever he gets going woth Guns again and if bes not, he'll be wrong and disappointed....as he did say at least twice, specifically this was "the plan"

So I wouldn't be surprised if the band had banked a few dozen demo riffs/song outlines and that Axl has at the very least listened to them and given feedback or put away for a rainy day! Thoughts?

    Well....that bit was accurate

If the "next album" is just a compilation of spruced up CD2 songs, it is safe to say Slash has been done with his contributions since around 2019

I was sending to my cousin who is a big Black Crowes fan so he could hear the clip of the Pusher.  He is also a fan of Slash and some other artists on the album so he is looking forward to it and going to the show.  In general, I have heard nothing but positive reactions to Killing Floor though.. Aside from one friend who thought Hardschool was pretty good, I haven't heard anything positive on the GnR relesases outside of this board. I really haven't heard much interest in those songs at all tbh..

    I loved that Jam! hahah

As someone who is gladly taking the Chinese leftovers, there is virtually no interest in those songs outside the diehard community.

bacard is my man. He disappeared as well.

    They’re active in other places

  11. I collect bootlegs on vinyl. I came across a great looking Sabbath boot from their 1989 Vienna show a few months back and decided to buy it. I always loved the original band, Heaven and Hell, the revival Dio record in 2009, and 13. I always dismissed the Tony Martin years. I decided to pick the boot up and thought the show sounded fucking awesome. I am so happy I picked it up (boots are expensive so I was iffy about getting it).

Got me into Headless Cross and let me say, that album is absolutely fucking killer. Just stellar metal that fits right in with the 80s NWOBHM. Iommi sounds awesome (did he use Marshalls in that era?) and Tony Martin is a fucking insane singer.

I might pick this up, although I still need to pick up some of the OG Sabbath albums, too. Very cool this is coming out for fans.

  12. It looks like Dune: Messiah will be made. I am probably going to read the books, now. I don't care for 1-1 adaptions for books and movies, as long as the changes enhance the film. The Godfather, Lord of the Rings, and Jurassic Park are all different than their books- but the screenplays were written to service the story in a way that would translate well on- screen. It is probably very hard to do, and usually people lament a film adaption not being exactly like a book, but I understand why they are often different. They seem to be terrible most of the time, but when they work, they work. I'd put Dune up there with those other behemoth films mentioned above. It is a visual spectacle with a rich world, great sound design, and an interesting and complex story.

    Some of my thoughts,

    Spoiler

-Visuals were next- level. In terms of sci- fi cinematography, this was one of the best. Visuals and memorable shots are really important in the genre- Interstellar, Blade Runner and 2049, Avatar 1 and 2, The Last Jedi (say what you want about the movie, it looks amazing), Alien, Arrival, 2001, etc. are all landmarks of visuals in the genre. This surpassed a good amount on that list. The colosseum scene and evil planet was crazy to see on- screen. The lighting was brilliant and made it seem like a completely alien world without relying on cartoony CGI. The worms, battles, spacecraft, costumes, everything look incredible in these films. Great example of computerized special effects and strong art direction coming together to help craft a world and story. Shit, even the explosions looked real, colorful, and vibrant. These movies do a great job of combining dark and dreary scenes with bright, blinding ones. Denis Villeneuve is one of the best in the business, right now.

-Action scenes were all great. The big battle was a little short, but I read that the book is like that, too. What you get is really good, though.

-Casting was top- notch. Elvis was a phenomenal villain and NuWonka was an engaging protagonist. The rest of the cast was all really good, too. I didn't know Christopher Walken was in this so that was a fun surprise. Dave Bautista just yelled a lot and had less to do in Part 2, but that isn't the actor's fault.

-Loved Paul's transformation. His journey as a naive and reluctant protagonist to a vengeful, manipulative Emperor was really well- done. Felt like what Anakin should have been. He had the clear goal of avenging his family but was hesitant with how to get there knowing where it would lead. It was such a killer scene when he accepted what he had to do.

-I really liked the ending. I was not familiar with the book's story, so I genuinely thought after killing the Baron Paul would kill the Emperor, take the mantle, get with Zendaya, and the other houses would fuck off. When they failed to recognize his ascendency and a greater war started, I thought, "oh, now I get it..." and it tied all the themes together. Even 40 minutes before the film ended, I had no idea how they would have wrapped all the storylines up. The atomics, defeating the Emperor and Harkonnens, what the one princesses' play was to keep the throne, the ominous prophecy stuff and religious themes... it all came together with the ending. Even with that ending, I feel pretty satisfied that the first book/ movie 1 and 2 told a pretty complete story. Sometimes the greater event (the war breaking out) is not the main story and that is okay. I felt the same way about Bladerunner 2049. I don't care so much about the replicant vs. human war that movie's ending led to because the film was about Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford and their stories came to a close. I don't care about the big Dune war (yet) because these films were about setting up the universe and Paul's ascension. If Messiah is about the bigger war, I will happily watch that and care about that later.

    All that being said,

I am totally hoping for Denis Villeneuve to adapt more of the Dune books. A part of me hope he doesn't just become "The Dune guy", like James Cameron is now just "The Avatar Guy", but I would love at least the next book to be adapted if it has a standalone ending. I haven't read them, and I hear they get weird as fuck, but I believe he can make it work on the big screen. I hear Dune: Messiah is close to being green- lit. If it doesn't happen, Dune 1 and 2 stand on their own. If it does happen, I am more than down to see the consequences of the galactic war on- screen. I just hate when something gets made without the ending greenlit and then you are stuck without the entire thing.

I didn't see the first part in theaters, and I regret it. I wanted to, and it was during all the weird COVID shit from what I remember. Seeing Part 2 in theaters makes up for it. Awesome movie that enhances part 1. As a whole, they stand as one of the best sci- fi movies ever made imo. What a weird fucking world Frank Herbert created. Super creative and I am here for it. If shit gets bonkers in his later books, that works for me. Hope he lived to complete his main story, I know his kid wrote a bunch after he died.

@rocknroll41, I am going to consider reading the books and then I will check out the mini- series with James McAvoy. He is another actor I really like.
