The podcast is awesome. Thanks for doing it. I have not been listening to all episodes throughout the years. Which are the episodes with some nice behind the scenes of Chinese Democracy? I have found the episodes with Brain anad Gary Sunshine. Awesome stuff! Any more episodes with some nice details about the making of CD?

the David Wild interviews are pretty great, Axl personally played him CD before it came out.

  4. Don't Ban Me | Ep. 281 - YouTube

Spoke to Rick "The Banned Man" Dunsford and elaborated on the situation. But a few things I want to be clear about if you don't listen:

    1) Please do not verbally attack TB. I only want to inform fans of GNR interview challenges I've faced over the years.

    2) The thread is called "going after Brando" ...they're not going after me. Just putting up roadblocks.

    3) I truly hope whatever "miscommunication" can be resolved.

    4) And to be clear, all challenges happened before I became friendly with Doug and working on his book.

    Enjoy!

If Shadow of Your Love was the issue with Frank, then his Mitch Lafon interview should have been the one that did the most "damage," because there he said the "that's a question for management" line, whereas he didn't really say anything in the interview with Brando, as the question was not so direct and Frank could skip it more easily.

Maybe it was the Hardschool question? Even though Frank didn't say anything there either - he said something like "I'll leave this rumour for the band and management to make an announcement" - maybe they had a problem even with the question merely being asked.

I can't help but notice that Frank in particular is walking on eggshells in interviews when it comes to GN'R questions other than his approach on drumming etc.

Maybe Hard School was it, but I cleared it with Frank beforehand. I always ask what topics should I avoid and sometimes offer them to listen to the interview before I post. He’s a good guy. I felt bad afterwards.

I suppose the NDA thing re: Patti Hood doesn't have to do with you specifically. The NDA's is an old thing. It seems almost everyone who has worked with GN'R in whatever capacity since the 90s signed one as part of their contract.

For sure. Yet people still do? I'm sure she could have and wouldn't gotten sued. I certainly didn't press for it though.

It's strange though, because even if it's been going on since the beginning, you could still get band members in the podcast until the Frank interview. As much as the way TB operates is what it is (and doesn't make sense), there must have been something more for it to get to the point where Dizzy, Frank, etc. are not allowed to come to the podcast. Was Fernando's text explicitly about your podcast or there were other media in the list (if you have this information)?

As for Doug Godlstein's book, there would be no reason for you to pass on the opportunity to work on a GN'R book, as there's no guarantee that the band would support you if you did. But, if you allow me an opinion: I guess Doug can put stories from Axl's personal life, Stephanie Seymour, etc. in there if he wants to, but I don't think teasing these stories on social media is a good idea - just my opinion.

2 people that I won't name, one is an ex-band member, told me shortly after my interview with Frank, a text from Fernando was sent to Frank, Melissa, Dizzy, and Richard not to do any interviews unless approved by him, and I was specifically named. So last Spring?

Whether it was the start with the photographer Kat telling me yes/likes what I do, then changing to no only because it's a GNR podcast, otherwise she would....to a NDA from the harp player on Prostitute, they were upset with Brain clickbait ("new music" said for the leaked remixes), didn't want Fortus on, even asked Frank to ask me to take the interview down, other former guests who are in a band with a GNR member won't come back...I could go on.

Yes, I'll let the book speak for itself regarding personal stuff.

I did not say the book has been a secret. My point was just that whenever Brando made that point public, it was pretty much going to dash any chances he had of ever maintaining a productive relationship with Team Brazil.

@Gambit83I look forward to reading the book. I hope you have something in writing, however. As they say, I would not trust Doug Goldstein any farther than I could throw him.

Can't maintain a relationship that doesn't exist or one-sided. I also sent an email to Fernando months later after I found out about his text, asking permission to interview Frank again. I'll respect his chain of command. Only approved topics, that he could listen to the recording first. Radio silence. Frank wanted to come on again with Brain btw.

I mentioned earlier this has been going on since the beginning, before I ever interviewed or spoke to Doug. 5 years...can't believe I've been doing it for that long. And for an opportunity to write a GNR book, a band I grew up loving, who would have ever guessed? Not me. I'm enjoying the ride. Trying to.

Did Doug offer you some kind of big payday? At some point or another, this was going to go public, and it seems like a very strange move for someone to make who runs a Guns N' Roses podcast with aspirations of one day interviewing Axl.

I am not being sarcastic or smart alec-y, just genuinely curious what made you choose to tackle this project, as it seems in direct contradiction to your goals with the podcast.

50/50. So if the book makes $6, I’ll get 3. I may want him to take $4 though, it’s his story/life.

I do have some education/experience in writing. Interviewing Axl to me is like touching God, so I never have real belief. Then again, I never thought I’d be writing a GNR book.

Not replying for @Gambit83 , but I just want to point out that the book hasn't been a secret. Brando has been open about working on it since the beginning and has been taking questions for Doug from fans.

    Thank you.

Duff was willing to go on with Brando so I don’t think it has to do with any friction between Goldstein/Niven & the Big 3. Just TB’s insecurities and possibly Axl protecting his family like his sister Amy inadvertently getting dragged into recounted stories and the debachery of the old days

Unfortunately not. It was my radio contact for Duff that canceled on me.

I just read that you are writing a book with Doug here, is that true? What is it about? Aren't you worried that bringing out a book with Doug will definitely ruin your standing with the GNR camp since he is shitlisted by Axl/TB?

Yes. Doug offered me the opportunity to write his autobiography. He tried a few years ago with a writer from Rolling Stone Italy I believe, but didn’t pan out.

”You don’t pick sides” is one of the reasons Doug wants me to help. So far we’ve recorded several conversations. Slightly over 100 pages of loosely edited material. Right now our schedules have prevented us from doing more, but that should change. A loose goal of next fall.

And yes I am worried. I was worried when I just told Alan Niven a few days ago given his feelings towards Doug. But despite his feelings, Alan appreciated me telling him about it. He said what I hope to get across, just to help tell Doug tell his story. It’s not my story, it’s his.  However I am helping him shape it, a success story all the way around.

@Gambit83 Is this all because you are writing a book with Doug? Maybe TB knows Doug knows a lot of shit that doesn’t fit the narrative they have been creating for the last decade (such as the delays with CD were all because of the label, every manager before them tried to force a reunion, nothing was ever Axl’s fault ect…) just a thought…..

Nah, it’s been stress almost since the beginning. I’d interview a current or former member and a few times it got back to me the camp was upset. Sometimes by the guest themselves, who then also get stressed.

Just having former managers on my podcast was enough, way before I became friendly with Niven or working with Doug, I’m looked at like “food poisoning.” Those are NOT words from TB, but another management to show as an example as what I’ve dealt with. If XYZ was a chef, why would they work at a restaurant called Food Poisoning (Appetite for Distortion). Again, that is not at all from TB. But perhaps, unfortunately, they see it the same way. Then again, like a restaurant I rely on reviews. That’s all that should matter. 😎

Alright then, I didn't know you already offered. I only met them once and even though that didn't make me a fan of their management, I have to say in person they were quite different from how their aggression when it comes to all things internet makes them come across. But then again it was an informal environment and not public, so I don't know how they are when  doing actual "business" with them.

As for a possible language barrier someone else here pointed out - their english is just fine. For some reason, they just seem to hate all things internet.

I've also heard almost all positive responses from fans that have met them. Including pre-banned Rick Dunsford. So it could just be a miscommunication or misperception, which is very possible and what I feel in my heart it is. Or maybe I'm naïve.

Here's a crazy thought: Why not just invite Beta and Fernando to the podcast, give them a chance to speak and hear them out? Don't know if Brando already did that or would even consider that, just a thought. After all, "their" band has a tour coming up, so there'd be plenty to talk about and promote for them.

That was my first offer years ago! Just so fans can "meet" them and enjoy their personality.

btw, is Susan still allowed to do the podcast?   London?  Cash?

As long as talking about this stuff doesn't end up biting me in the ass (the risk I know I'm taking). I was supposed to interview London with Suspect208 again before they broke up. I'd like to think I will for his new band when it's appropriate. I had planned on reaching out to see if I can get Susan and Grace on together. Hopefully I will.

  15. 1 hour ago, Blackstar said:

I'm afraid it's no use to ask them to be interviewed on the podcast as, like I said earlier, I just don't think it's their style to do "normal" things like that and maybe they are not allowed to anyway.

Have you reached out to Susan about this?

Susan knows I want to interview Duff. I don't want to break her confidence with what she said, but she's supportive of me and hopes it happens.

It's insane that Dirty Honey isn't allowed to come on the show because they're friends with Slash, and that Duff's interview got cancelled. I guess Duff isn't allowed to override TB/Axl?

Dirty Honey/Duff is another management, but at least this person communicated with me. I respect that, even if the result isn't what I want.
