Mind if I ask the connection she has to those three, who is she?

Yes could watch the interview but think I posted in the past I enjoy your stuff but my lifestyle doesn't allow for paying attention to full podcasts at the moment and the snippets you've been uploading are perfect for my selfish needs.

    Ask and you shall receive

Please ask Jennifer if she'd like to perform one of my songs on guitar in her style and post it on YouTube so I can hear it done by a proper guitarist at least once. And even though she is probably sick of MJ questions: What was the most challenging MJ song for her to perform live, other than "Beat It"? If you have time for one more: As a master of the instrument (at least to me she is), how does she keep herself motivated and not get bored? What trends/bands in music does she find interesting today? How does she cope with the whole covid situation as an artist? So many questions...looking foward to that interview, even if you don't ask her any of my questions. :)

I would have asked but the interview happened yesterday :(

    Just posted though :)

Whoa...thought this wasn't happening until Sunday?  Congratulations...Can't wait to listen!

Would love to hear some of your personal impressions of the interview, when you have the time.

The original post I wrote the wrong day...so, surprise! I'll say this, it was perhaps the least stressful GNR-related interview. Just reached out, no pushback or topics to avoid...other than Manson, mainly because he doesn't know anything. But he was cool just talking about Chinese Democracy as much as I wanted. Because of that I wanted to make sure I spoke enough about his current stuff too, as a thank you.

  4. Recent interviews with Gina Gershon, yes that Gina Gershon, plus Mark Kendall from Great White and Hannes from Germany's Kissin Dynamite. Gina talks about playing with pre-Velvet Revolver in 2003, Mark talks about Alan Niven splitting time between GW and GNR, and Hannes talks about his once German talk show where he interviewed Slash. Obviously, a lot more than that, so hope you listen and enjoy :)

How much do they really know about his personal life?  Mick I'm assuming is going off of Axl from the early 90's and Brando from what he's heard.  There's a narrative out there about Axl that maybe more fiction then reality, less fact and more opinion.  Don't know the guy but nobody is the same person they were 30 years ago, not even 10 years ago.  Like Mick said, just people.  Then again just people don't sell out big rock shows, you need a guy with a narrative.

I always say I don't really know these people, that I have a fan perspective. Even those I interview, do I really "know" them? No. Neither does Mick and he knows that. Mick said a lot of nice things about Axl in the interview, but no one seems to pick up on that. FYI that will be Mick's gripe next time he's on.

The most interesting section of this interview and both interviewer and interviewee won't talk about it. Why mention Axls personal life if you're not going to talk about it? my guess is that Mick loves to be thought of as 'in the know'. I don't doubt Axl was in a dark spot in the 90s and throughout most of the making of Chinese though... I don't think you need to be an insider to work that out.

You can talk about a topic without doing a deep dive into every aspect.  He spoke of Axl's mental health as a jumping off point to his own, made sense to me.

@Gambit83 Mick Wall was by far the most blowhardy ego maniac you have ever had on the pod. How did you not burst out laughing when he was talking about how is mostly average and sometimes woefully inaccurate rock biopics are “literature” and should be treated with the utmost respect.

Lots of thoughts went through my head, but honestly since he was nice to me on/off air, I'm not going to push a person that treats me well. Same in my real life. Might sound lame, but it's just how I operate. I just let you all make your opinions based on his answers and leave at that.

Plus tbh if I got to a level where booking GN'R guests didn't make me paranoid about being blacklisted, then I think I'd push back more on some interviews. Just want the guest to enjoy themselves, which hopefully translates to an enjoyable listen.

He was utterly deluded. I just get the sense he’s got quite a few psychological issues.

    What is Doug’s response?

Haven't gotten it yet. He's at the Chiefs game today!

Maybe next time, whoever the author is,  a fan that has read the book can point out the flaws and submit questions ahead of time. Like when the interview is first announced

I announced it on social media, usually do for my interviews. He'll be on again.

With Micks attitude towards putting out factual information you can easily see why Axl hated him

and yeah, tbh those details, big or small, would bother me personally. But I'm not going to tell Mick how to feel, you know?

I just thought he came across as an egotist. Didn’t listen & disregarded your admission about therapy with a joke about NYC.

As a fellow Brit he reminds me of the overly opinionated person in the pub who it’s best to just avoid.

He really wound me up…can you tell. 😂

Haha, no worries. His joke was funny and I'm glad he admitted finally going to therapy too.

If you are to correct him for all the inaccuracies and fiction in his Axl and GN'R biographies, you'll need a whole season of episodes

Anyway, I haven't watch the interview yet (I'll do it later tonight) and I know if this was addressed, but I'm curious: did he explain why he had blocked you on twitter?

Haha, I'm sure. But he did say he'll address any direct mistakes. The getting street names/places wrong, he seemed not to care as much.

And yes, he doesn't remember. Chances are it was when Art Tavana would tag me in convos blasting him and I got lumped in.

@Gambit83 Did you clock the misquote re what Axl said about Slash? Would of loved you to challenge him.

I'll follow up with him about it next time for sure. I knew of the Axl/Slash cancer quote, but wasn't sure if he meant something else and just let him go. I have an interrupting problem as it is, so sometimes I just let things go :) But for sure next time I'll correct him and we'll go from there.

He quoted Axl as saying he hoped Slash got cancer. That’s a complete miss quote. If that gets click bait headlines it’s going to be unfortunate.

He didn’t seem to show Brando any respect.

What I find unbelievable is he seems to think he’s somehow equal to these multi million selling musicians..He’s completely deluded.  The factual inaccuracy’s in his books are inexcusable. The books aren’t fiction.

If management are keeping an eye on these I don’t think this one will go down well.

I felt he gave me all respect, why did it come off differently to you? If management does keep an eye on these, hopefully it displays again how I'd interview Fernando. Just a conversation to try to put someone in the best of light, and it's up to the fans to make the decision if they like the person or not.

He can do whatever he wants and write whatever he wants no doubt, but he says that his books aren’t for people who are fans of the bands he writes about.

What an odd selling point to explain if they’ve got incorrect information in them…

Yeah I don't necessarily agree with him there. I will try to get everything right as possible in Doug's book and will care if I don't.

  13. NEW! Ep. 323 - Former cohost, current friend, @IanScotto returns to the podcast to kick off the first episode of the new year. The guys talk the new Slash and Ashba interviews, interview challenges, and more!

Also here's an unreleased clip I was asked by Iron's Maiden's management to take out of this interview last year.

PLUS now accepting questions for Arian Buhler about his lithographs...

Hang on, I might have a Doug's wife story.  They were some where, maybe in Europe, maybe Rome.  Something happen, not quite a riot but the GNR women go running.  Security tries to slow them down asking if one of the guys is with them.  Doug's wife rips open her shirt and says "do I look like a man"?    Might have been around the water gun fight time.

Sorry, been a while since I was told that story.

“Never heard about it, but fits her.” - Doug
