  1. Forgive me for sounding negative but I get this humbling feeling in the pit of my stomach whenever somebody connected to the band mentions that something is or will happen.

I don't believe in jinxes but I'll believe it when I see it. Regardless I'm sure with DJ's web exp. it has the potential to be a bitchin site

  2. I'm delighted to hear that they will be coming to Los Angeles... and best of all at the Forum. I love that place! It's such a shithole. rock3

I don't think anyone should worry about the danger of the venue... Unless Axl incites a riot... In which case we're fucked.

Having said that, the forum is cool. It's a throwback-- Inglewood's not that bad.. I saw Prince there earlier this year- excellent show. It's a quaint enough venue to where you'll be able to get a good view of the band even up in the colonnade--

I'd still like to score some GA tickets... Is there any difference from GA 3 or GA 1?

  3. Damn it-- the thread title gave me blue balls I thought we had leaks!

Slash and I share a birthday, but in some strange way I think sharing a birthday with a song title might be a little bit cooler. More ominous, seeing as we haven't heard it yet.

  4. I had seen some of these before but had no idea the same guy made them-- Pretty freaking well done, considering what footage there is to work with.

Obviously the biggest red flag is the intermittent quality of the vids from YouTube, but nevertheless- Excellent.

    ---

I just revisted that Better video, and started laughing my ass of-- Tommy pops up for a split second in the background behind Axl, appearing to do a palm shot of coke haha. It's hard to tell, but if it fits...

  5. "Ain't it fun" instantly came to my mind when I saw the title of this thread, but, being a readers pick list, obviously it had to be KOHD.

Lots of other singers/bands have already recorded this song (even Avril Lavigne recorded it, if my memory serves me right), and I never understood why people love so much KOHD (one of my least favs of Guns BTW).

Recently it's being hard for me to understand "the common sense's choices" on this kind of lists. :xmassrudolph:

QFT man! Ain't It Fun is violently awesome! lol-- I think The Spaghetti Incident got a bad rap. I can imagine the disappointment at the time of the release or shortly there after-- It's a shame that the last album with Duff, Slash and Axl together is a cover album-- But still it's badass.

  6. Knockin' On Heaven's Douuowow has to be one of the most embarrassing songs ever recorded. I love what the new band has done with it live, and I wouldn't mind them recording a mellower version of it... But this IMO it's an awful cover. Surprised they didn't go with Live and Let Die.

  7. I'm really curious how all of you Gn'R lifers made it through the storm that was Chinese Democracy? What in god's name did you do all those years to curb your anticipation? Where do we go now?

Let me summarize my Gn'R history-- I've been a fan of the band and the music (the singles) for as long as I can remember. My mother sang Sweet Child O' Mine to me since I've been in the womb. I remember thinking as a kid that Don't Cry was one of the coolest fucking videos I've ever seen. I grew up in LA so bands like Gn'R and Red Hot Chili Peppers have always been pretty accessible through local radio-- But I haven't always been such an avid fan until recently.

I hadn't heard about Chinese Democracy until like 2007. I listened to a track on YouTube, believe it was Chicken Dinner, and didn't think much of it-- But the little promotion there was back in 08 really reinvigorated my interest and I started taking a liking to the demos and the back catalog. So long story short, I didn't have to wait long for Democracy.

But now it's been a good few years, and I've played the fuck out of all the albums-- And while I still would call Gn'R my favorite band, it's hard to advocate for the lack of releases. I've gone back and listened to about every old demo or alternate version I could find.... But I'm deeply afraid of it growing stale.

I'm genuinely curious as to how many of you made it through the long haul, with such patience and devotion to the band? Cause-- heck, I'm preaching to the choir here, but it's tough being a Gn'R fan. There's a lot of waiting... Lots of unfulfilled promises... And lot's of bitter MF'rs on here that will shit on the band at any chance they get.

  8. The situation is certainly different... No one cares about Axl anymore. Or at least no one outside of this forum-- Dre's been off doing his own thing, working, making money, making headphones, lol-- He's still been in the public eye. The first time Axl's made news since the disaster that was the VMA's, he's punching a photog in the face.

Don't get me wrong-- I agree with the op- This is definitely how you make a comeback. A strong single, "epic" video. That's how it's done......even if Dre only performs for about a minute or two in a 7 minute video.... Imagine if Guns N' Roses released Madagascar with a video treatment like this...

Unfortunately you can really see where Interscope's priority lies. Real Rock 'n' Roll is dead, so they're going all in on Hip Hop.

  9. I for one don't really give a fuck about moderators or past moderators or the state of this board--- I'm on here because I love this fucking band and wanna talk about it, and if dbags wanna come in starting lies and talking shit, then toss em on they're ass who cares.

I must admit that the main reason I dislike MYGNR is not because of the "totalitarian" mods and admins-- It's the passive-aggressive assholes who pollute this forum and hijack threads with "cool story bro" or whatever slick little sardonic remark they can get off on someone. This is a portal for fans, and I never understood why we treat each other like such shit. Yes-- I've been known to disagree with people on here or be disgusted by the banality of this board.... And I'm contradicting myself right now even wasting my breath on this-- But christ. Lighten up. If you don't want to talk about GNR's venture into darker/sadder material then don't reply- Simple.

    ______

Personally I think this an excellent topic and that's why I am replying, and I apologize to the OP for ranting.

I would consider Chinese Democracy to be pretty dark, but with sort of a "light at the end of the tunnel feeling." I dig that, it's great I love it. But I really love what you said about The Unforgiven by Metallica. A great example. I think people are put off when they see Evanescence (sp?) mentioned with Gn'R. I've said it before and I'll say it again- Nothing wrong with emotions. Straight up Screamo- Hot Topic music is another thing---

The Garden, a lot of TSI?, My World, Oh My God, Silkworms, Chinese Democracy--- Some real vicious, primal music there man-- Love em all and would love to hear more.

  10. Chinese Democracy certainly flows differently than the previous records. I see what you're saying--- If anything ChiDem is more of a mental gymnasium. It's angry and cerebral.

That's not to make it sound like old Guns N' Roses is low-brow or anything. I just see it as the next step-- Definitely not emo, IMO.

"Chinese Democracy" and "Better" kick ass while biking though.

  11. Rumors are certainly interesting to say the least.

I love them and I think that rumors have more place on this board than "Did Axl shampoo his cornrows?" But unfounded lies is another story. One might say it's libel... But after seeing the "horses mouth", one realizes that horse is nothing but a jackass. An unemployed jackass who genuinely believes that he has Axl's balls in his back pocket.

Rumors are one thing. Amateur blackmail is another.

  12. Is it just me, or does the media player take fucking forever to load?

I'm certainly intrigued-- It seems there's some mixed opinions on it-- I really fucking dislike Sixx AM, but I'm going to give it a shot...... If the damned thing ever loads!

    ______

Christ! It's awful. I'm sorry-- DJ has proven to be a fine musician with a good dose of much needed charisma, but this song is so sugary.

I like the structure in the verses, and that solo was cool while it lasted-- but the chorus sounds like it belongs on a Kelly Clarkson or Slash album.

  13. To comment on the Axl and Slash situation... without trying to add further fuel to the fire and detract from the topic-- Obviously there was a falling out. Creative differences, and while some will say that "Chinese Democracy was a bloated piece of shit" others will say that Slash has "sold his soul to the devil" by creating radio friendly music.

But regardless, you have to respect them IMO. They've both worked their asses off trying to move on. Not dwelling on the past. Slash has said before that he'd be open to a reunion, but he's not waiting on it... And I don't think that it would really make a world of difference to him anyway. Both guys have their pride, and that's cool.... Steven Adler was excellent on Appetite For Destruction, but he's clawing and grasping onto whatever he has left. Begging for a reunion. Groveling for cash-- It's desperately pathetic.

Axl and Slash, and Duff too-- have produced some pretty excellent music since then. Good for them. That's all I can say about it.

    ___

So while I was trying not to get too off topic, I do believe that the breakup has a lot to do with the reason Axl is more "cryptic." There's a different attention placed on Guns N' Roses now.

I was watching an old Axl interview with Kurt Loder the other day, which Loder was trying to pry and get some info on Use Your Illusion, before it was released... And it was very refreshing to see Axl, so animated and proud of the upcoming album. There was a great deal of press junkets, interviews and demand then.

Times have changed. The entire dynamic of the record industry has changed. This "iTunes" demographic looks at GnR as 80's hair rock.

    __

I feel I'm ranting and should probably just wrap this up short and sweet... Through the Dexter chats, Axl has certainly alluded to, and explained quite a bit of the new music. There just isn't an overwhelming interest for the media outlets to read into it.

  14. It's hard to be pessimistic or truly optimistic... It's a little too vague to read into... But of course, there's nothing else going on other than Steven Adler and Slash promoting their albums... So in that case this becomes big news, lol.

But heck this kind of could be big news, depending on how you look at it.

Best Case scenario: They begin to stream remixes and or unreleased remixes through Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. Release them for free download on their website, and follow the grass roots revival the Smashing Pumpkins have got going. Sell limited edition physical copies.... I think the majority of Gn'R fans are lured by a physical copy of Chinese Democracy. We've heard about the leaks forever... the whole "I'll believe it exists when it's in my hand." mentality. IMO, it would probably generate just as many sales as a poorly promoted CD 1.

Worst case scenario: This Facebook message falls into the obscurity of all the nonsensical rumors that the media creates... And we don't hear about this ever again.

  15. Why are you guys saying only Steven will show when Slash already said he would? I would expect Duff to show and Im sure Izzy would be willing to come out of his shell to do it. The only questions to be asked about this situation are will Matt be invited? And who is going to sing (obviously not Axl, too stuck up and bitter)?

Wouldn't that be interesting if they played without him? Almost a moment of silence (vocally) for a great band that has fallen. Just instrumentals- Insane, vigorous solos, Gilby and Tracii might as well go out.
