  1. The guitarists were the main creative influence in all those bands. I think it's as simple as that. Maiden, Van Halen, Anthrax, and Deep Purple had already gone through other vocalists before they changed again in the 90s, and Misfits just reformed after more than a decade away with a new vocalist.

  2. Megadeth is a really good example. Poland and Samuelson did the debut and Peace Sells, replaced them both for So Far So Good So What (a minor success), then replaced both of those guys with Marty Friedman and Nick Menza and went on to do Rust in Peace and those other albums that sold well. I can't say I'm fond of any of their work after Menza and Friedman got replaced, or anything after Rust in Peace for that matter though they were successful.

  3. Last year:

    - A Different Kind Of Truth

    - KISS's Monster

    - Linkin Park's Living Things

    - Music From Another Dimension

    - Clockwork Angels

    - Rize Of The Fenix

    - Celebration Day

    - En Vivo!

    - Apocalyptic Love

There's like....two good albums there, and they are all from musicians and bands who are shells of their former selves.

  4. That list is terrable! Zep 1 and vh 1 along with appetite have to be in the top ten to be taken seriously. I'm fine with are you experienced ranking high (its a great fucking album). But seriously appetite should be top 3 honestly. Licensed to ill is a good album, but its not top ten. Not over zep and vh 1. No fucking way!

Zeppelin's debut ain't anything to write home about.

On the other hand, it's embarrassing that Black Sabbath, Van Halen, and Boston ranked so low.

I'd write home about Zep's debut. Communication Breakdown, Dazed and Confused, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Good Times Bad Times....pretty good album right there.

  5. Can't stop loving you, seventh seal, don't tell me what love can do, and not enough are > the best 4 songs on adkot imo. People hate on the van hagar era, but sammy is a great singer. Its more pop rock yes, but van halen was always a pop rock band. Even when dave was there. Jump, ill wait, pretty woman, and dancing in the street are just as poppy as anything van hagar ever did.

As is and she's the woman are great retro van halen tunes, by far the best songs on the album. Stay frosty and you and your blues are decent songs also but the rest of the album is filler imo.

Its a fair comparision to compare adkot to balance, 3, diver down, and maybe even fuck. Buts that's it imo. All other vh albums are far and away better than adkot. I can't believe all the hate towards 1984. That album is a fucking masterpiece, dave and eddie at there absolute best. I can't believe people are still upset because eddie wanted to bring some keyboards into the band. Why do so many fans want every band to be like acdc? Same album over and over again. Musicians like to try new things people. Evh a guitar god wrote a #1 hit song on a keyboard (jump), way to show diversity and true talent edward. I applaud you!

You clearly don't understand what Van Halen was about if you say that ADKOT is, far and away, the worst album ever put out under the Van Halen name. 1984 was not a masterpiece, not even close. It was one of the worst Roth albums, but is still miles ahead of the non-Roth albums.

  6. The first Van Halen album is way better than Appetite

Hot for Teacher and Romeo Delight are better rockers than anything GNR did

The 7 Roth albums are all amazing, the other two singers are irrelevant since it was hardly even a rock band anymore. If you do want to recognize the Van Hagar pop-rock music, they still did that better than most everyone else at the time.

Van Halen was about rock and roll and partying, of course they had no ballads

Eddie Van Halen is the greatest guitarist alive

Only large point I'd give GNR is that Axl is a way better vocalist than Roth, especially live. This is kind of overshadowed by never knowing for sure if Axl and his band is going to take the stage when you see them live.

Not even close, Van Halen is greater than Guns n Roses.

  7. You guys got me thinking about how I'd rank the 7 albums now. Here is how I feel at this moment:

    1. Van Halen I - One of my favorite albums ever. Band is just on fire, Eddie's playing on this album sucks me in every single time. Every track is a must listen.

    2. Van Halen II - Amazing followup. Outta Love, Beautiful Girls, Light Up the Sky, DOA, Somebody Get Me A Doctor, Women in Love, Spanish Fly. Only track I'd say I can do without is Dance the Night Away

    3. A Different Kind of Truth - I can't believe how well this album turned out. I was just happy to hear Van Halen was touring again with Dave, I assumed the album was going to be kind of pathetic and never got my hopes up. They really got my attention when I heard She's the Woman was going to be on there. Killer album, fits right in with the first few.

    4. Fair Warning - Some amazing tracks on this one too. An oddball of sorts compared to the rest, but their hardest album too. I could listen to Unchained everyday until eternity and never get sick of it.

    5. Women and Children First - Only a few real standout tracks on this one with Everybody Wants Some, Romeo Delight, and Loss of Control, the rest isn't bad though.

    6. Diver Down - This album has me torn at times. I used to ignore it, but now I can say that I really like it if I skip Secrets and Dancing in the Street. Love Where Have All the Good Times Gone

    7. 1984 - I just am not that fond of this album. Hot for Teacher is perhaps my favorite song ever, and Panama is an overrated, but decent, track. I hold quite a disdain for Jump and I'll Wait, and the rest of the album is filler that doesn't stand up to much from the other albums.
