  1. I have said it before and i will say it again.

This could be such a huge chance for good PR, show up and fucking blow the place away, show them that despite so called promoters hidden agendas the fans count, go down in festival history for the performance and not the childish petty fucking shit.Honestly i would love them to show and bring the crowd and media to their fucking knees.Lets be honest this band has tied everything to fuck things up so why not try and do something so mind blowing people forget some of the shit.People go on about negative reviews but if i sit down and deliberately write a negative review on a Guns show at least 5 out of 10 times i wouldn't need to edit it after the show.

The only bonus was i finally found Biffy Clyro, now that was a fucking set worth seeing

Agreed, I think these shows were important for the band.....Why not do an Epic show like the 3.5 hour 2009 Tokyo show and blow people away..I know they would not have had time to do 3 1/2 hours but if they had gotten on stage on time they could have played 2 1/2+ hours and really given a show

I think the frustrating thing, for me anyway, is that the show was that good and many people soon stopped caring about the lateness but there were some that didn't and now the press has latched onto that and it's more bad press for GN'R. If they were on time they would have reclaimed their throne and many people would have been converted. I heard some people going "I'll stay for one song" and "If it's crap I'll leave" and those people were there until the end, they were blown away, singing along etc.

I guess though if and when they play Leeds and if its on time they could undo any negativity.

READING FESTIVAL - Apparently the promoter has had a personal grudge with GN'R stemming from 8 years ago, if this was the case why book the band? He knows our show. Let me guess... To take our fans money and then not allow us to give them a show that they payed for. This was clearly not a curfew thing because after cutting our power like a selfish money grubbing prick, he allowed music blasting through out the venue till the early morning. For us this was all about the fans, the show and the music. For the promoter it was all about the money and not about the fans or the music. The promoter was already being a cocky f$#k in the press before we arrived, so yes we went on a little late, and for this we apologies. However, our fans payed to see a show, and that's why we showed up, too give them just that. Sad that this promoter's music festival has little too do with the fans or the love for music. Last night was insane! They pulled the power, but failed to kill the connection as 90,000 people sang Paradise City. Much love to you all!!!

Ashba implies they went on late on purpose to get back at the promoter

    What a loud of crap.

Over the last 15 y ears or so, when has this band ever gave a fuck about the fans.

Bumble cares a lot about his fans. The guy went around record shops in 2008 doing signings and spending time to meet and talk to fans. Hell yesterday he wanted people to come on stage when the power got cut so they could do an acoustic show.

And if the band didn't care at all they wouldn't have come back out to attempt an encore last night.

Wouldn't surprise me but then I agree with what Ashba said about the promoter, hell even Bumble who doesn't seem too happy with the lateness issue seemed to be having a great time last night. Personally, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a group decision to get back at the promoter.

  4. Just got back from Reading and what a show!

The band were really tight, Axl's voice was perfect and the crowd (where I was anyway) were loving it. Definitely THE best live show I have ever seen. Hopefully you guys who bought Leeds tickets will get to see them but I'm not too sure. The bit with the megaphone and the acoustic guitar was awsome, definitely will go down in Reading history. It is a joke that they got the power pulled on them, especially as I left I could hear REALLY loud music coming from the campsite. I mean they only wanted to do one more song, what's the harm?

Anybody know why Axl left the stage before the end of Nightrain? I guessed he was getting shit from the organisers but I'm not certain .

Maybe to breath some oxygen. He's known for vanishing from the stage, as and when..

he did that allot I think, cause he left at least once in almost every song. At the end of Nightrain did anyone else see him throw the mic away? I guess he was angry at the promoters at that point in time

I think he looked to the side of the stage and said something like "If you don't want us to play then fine, we're done"

  5. 'Thousands of fans, many swearing out loud at Rose and others genuinely upset at the car crash unfolding in front of their eyes'

Car cash of a band. Ouch. What's all the stuff about Axl's red face, and out of contion shape. Drugs such a Viagra can cause a red face, maybe he's on that or something similar.

Obviously whoever wrote that was at a different show to the one I was at. And why do you post in a GN'R forum if you don't like the band?

Nope, he threw his mic on the floor and stormed off making me think he was getting shit from the promoter.

  7. they weren't excessively late, 1030 is acceptable. pulling the plug, thats on the promoter.

ive always held axl accountable where i felt fit, ive always objected to the late starts, but 10:30? i think tonight was acceptable. i suspect this might be part of the reason bumble isnt fuming.

Yeah, I don't think one can defend Axl's lateness as it is unprofessional but at the end of the day I don't really mind as it's such a great show.

10:30 however isn't that late at all which is making me think there may have been technical hiccups other than Axl not wanting to go out on stage. Also, GN'R have a very elaborate stage show which will take quite a long time to prepare. Compared to the time Axl sometimes goes on stage this isn't late.

And Bumble not being mad I think also shows this, I mean if he was mad at Axl for being late and and causing the plug to get pulled why would he be out partying with other band members for six hours? I did however see Bumble on stage before they came on during the wait discussing something with someone who I guess was part of the crew. I certainly think this is more than Axl just wanting to be late. As I said in another thread this may have just cost them playing any UK festivals in the future so I think that if they were ready at 21:30 they would have been on stage.

  8. I hope they don't cancel Leeds because it's a festival not a GN'R show so people won't be able to get refunds as most festivals say "lineup subject to change."

Whilst Axl may want to make a point to this promoter, this isn't the way to do it as it's only the GN'R fans who will lose out. I could see this happening if there were any incidents at Reading. I do however think that this will be the last time GN'R ever play a UK festival because the festivals here finish early compared to the ones in mainland Europe meaning no late starts if it is or isn't the band's fault.

Although personally I think the promoter was naive for believing Guns would be on stage at 21:30, if you're so paranoid about the curfew don't book GN'R then.

Download 2006, Guns went on stage 7 minutes early.

Fair point but there is always a chance they won't be on time. Also, the promoter saying "we'll pull the plug" earlier in the week didn't help at all as Axl probably wanted to see if he really would, and he didn't really as they still played half an hour past curfew time. Anyone else see Bumble at the side of the stage during the wait for them to come on?

  9. Well, I was there and it was awsome, the press know nothing!

    Tell us more!!

I've given some details in the other thread but needless to say the band were so damn tight, the tightest band I've ever seen live and Axl's voice was perfect. There was some negativity but it was a minority of people once the show started. All the booing regarding lateness stopped (around me anyway, that's why I got as near to the front as possible as I guessed there'd be more diehard GN'R fans there not the 'where's Slash?' crowd). And, I saw Slash at Download and let me say that his live show is nothing compared to GN'R, it's sad but true and I'm not one of these Slash v Axl types. Everybody around me was having a great time. Some guy heckled abuse during Dizzy's solo but he got heckled back by others around me.

The best show I've ever seen and I can't wait till Birmingham now.

For the sake of other fans I hope that Guns still play Leeds but late or not it is a joke that they got the power pulled on them as, as I've said elsewhere the festival site was still really loud after the show ended.

  12. I'll be leaving soon, seems as though Reading is very wet and muddy! Doesn't bother me as I'll be seeing GUNS N' F'N ROSES! WAHOO! :D [And I have a hotel for the night,no camping for me :P ]

So stoked for this, will be my first GN'R show. Have fun everybody else that's going and I hope the BBC show some if not all their set so other people can watch it and we'll finally have some pro shot footage of the 09/10 tour.

  13. No, just be a professional and give it all FOR YOUR FANS, not against some manager or whoever.

Judging by your avatar, I think you'd agree with me that the band that currently most embodies what you've detailed above are the mighty Pearl Jam.

I've been to 4 of their shows, and my first one happened to be at Reading Festival. They came on stage bang on time, made sure the crowd were ok, and the only time they stopped (albeit briefly) was when some people were being carried out over the front barrier, as they knew that if they kicked into the next song (which was Even Flow) then the place would go nuts, and people could quite easily have been hurt. Every other time I've seen them, they've never been more that 10 mins late on stage, and always play a 2 hours+ set, which is 25 SONGS, not 18 songs with a lot of tossing about in between.

All this from a band that are just as big (I'd now say bigger) than GN'R. It seems like everyone other band wants to get on stage as soon as they can and play a show for their fans, whereas one individual thinks otherwise.

If he really has this thing about waiting for ages or taking a long time to prepare, then the solution is quite simple - GET UP EARLIER. If I know I have a load of things to do the next day, or a deadline to meet, I make sure I manage my time and get my priorities straight. I've said it before and I'll say it again: any other line of work and this tardy behaviour would not be accepted.

Agree with you about Pearl Jam, definitely one of the most professional acts around. Saw them at Hyde Park in London a couple of months ago and they were fantastic and were happy to stop or tell people to calm down and look after each other. Also, Pearl Jam gave a pretty long set although obviously not as long as usual. You know a band plays really long usually when people are saying 2 and a quarter hours is a short set.

At the end of the day it is very unprofessional to go on stage late, especially when all the other acts around manage to turn up on time. Although, I also want to see a GN'R show so I put up with it. But yeah I don't see why anybody would want him on stage late, whilst if you're not going hearing about what happened may be fun but if you've paid good money to go to this festival you want a full festival set. (I know I do)

  14. It's nice to see a positive article about Axl for a change that doesn't make him look like public enemy number one.

However, the anti-Slash stuff annoyed me. If there's one thing that generally annoys me in GN'R fandom it's the Axl/Slash divide between fans. Like you can either be a Velvet Revolver fan or a Guns N' Roses fan, a Slash fan or an Axl fan. Well, I'm both, I really enjoyed the Velvet Revolver albums and a lot of Slash's solo album (I'm not a huge fan of albums with different singers on each track). Just because two musicians have a disagreement doesn't mean you have to get tangled up in it.

As for the "Slash is easily imitated" bit, sure lots of people can play the stuff he's come up with but can they write something as good as it?

But yeah its nice to see journalists finally realising how great new GN'R are. I'm sure many people at Reading/Leeds will be pleasantly surprised by how awsome they are [if there's no drama regarding lateness of course].

Did anyone else going to reading/leeds get a little more excited rock3

Hell yeah! I am so stoked about this show, it's been a long four year wait for me!

  15. Nope, whilst there may be some drama and I grant you it could be interesting at the end of the day I don't want Reading to be the most expensive and shortest Queens Of The Stone Age show I've ever been to. I want GN'R to be on time so that nothing bad happens and we get a full show, also if Reading goes well then the fans who are going to Leeds will 100% still get GN'R.

If Axl is late by a long time then a shit storm will ensue. I mean he could still get on stage at 10pm and do a 90 minute set which is pretty much all a lot of bands do at festivals anyway. I can see why the festival boss is taking a hard line but then a riot won't look good for the festival either. I don't know what will happen. I just hope my journey to Reading won't be in vain but then hey I do like Queens Of The Stone Age a lot.

  16. I think people that are going to the READING festival may get a 600% better chance of seeing GNR play something, especially if Axl decides against Leeds or Worse they BAN him from Leeds because of an a riot at the Reading festival after they pull the plug

I seriously predict some sort of trouble especially as

    a) The Reading Festival organiser has undermined axl before hes even played a song

    B) Reading is known for bottling, more so than ANY other festival, with the exception of leeds

    c) Leeds AND READING traditionally riot on the Sunday

    Yeah, various problems may occur:

    1) Axl is on stage at 21:30 (hurrah) but people bottle him and it's another Download '06 in terms of ill feelings between band an audience, although by the looks of youtube clips the show ended very well indeed. In fact a worse case scenario regarding bottling is that he is bottled and doesn't come back out - a riot may ensue.

    2) Axl is on stage late and they pull the plug during his set - a riot may ensue

    3) GN'R never go on stage because they are too late - a riot may ensue

Maybe I'm just being overly paranoid regarding a possible riot  but if there is going to be any drama on the 2010 Europe tour it will probably be at Reading and/or Leeds. I figured that knowing what happened last time when they booked GN'R they figured he'd probably go on late. Obviously not.

  17. :P i get that the chief of this festival is just doing his job but... u just dont disrespect axl like this publicly... this is a good time to bring back "double talkin jive.. " he can dedicate it to mr boss at start of show.

    +1 this is my fear.......

Oh my god this weekend could be a fucking disaster or totally amazing - isn't that what following GNR is all about?!?!? ....... :krider:

Seriously, this guy should shut the fuck up now, i appreciate his position but he should have released one brief statement and then dealt with gnr / axl only. He has made his point and should leave it now.

    +1

I hope its awsome too but this statement by the boss has made me nervous. I can see why he has to be so strict but by pulling the plug could create a shitstorm and if he annoys Axl and Reading I can see him pulling out of Leeds to make a point. But for all we know at 21:30 we'll hear DJ playing the opening chords of Chinese. Well, Reading/Leeds will certainly be interesting if nothing else!

  18. I REALLY hope they don't pull the plug on GN'R, if they do I'll be really mad. Them and Queens Of The Stone Age are the only two bands I'm interested in seeing.

It's insane how strict timings are here in England for rock festivals. I think Graspop in Belgium goes on until about 1am. If they do try and pull tne plug Axl could always repeat his awsome Leeds 2002 speech:

"Well, it appears that we're gonna have an interesting evening. You see the, city council and the promoters say we have to like end the show. And they'll say that I'm... they could say maybe I'm enciting a riot. Now I'm not 'cause I don't want anyone to get arrested or anyone to get in trouble or anything like that. But I think we got a good 7 or 8 fucking songs left at least to play for you. And I didn't fucking come all the way to fucking England to be told to go back fucking home by some fucking asshole! All I've got for the last 8 years is shit after shit after shit in the fucking press and Axl's this, Axl's that - I'm here to play a fucking show and I wanna play!"

This is why I love Axl.

Yep, that speech was f**king awsome! I think curfew times are annoying at festivals anyway and at festivals its not as if most people need to get home that evening.

You ever lived in a tourist town?

Curfews provide some sorta consideration for the people that actually live there.

I know why curfews are there but the festival is one weekend a year, its not everyday. And if they don't let Guns play there could well be a riot which is probably why they didn't pull the plug in '02. Okay so Axl/Guns' popularity may have declined but there will still be a fair few GN'R fans there and as they're a headline act, one of the main draws of the festival and people will be annoyed if they don't see them. Also, its not as if Queens Of The Stone Age will be given a longer set to compensate given the nature of this thing. Eg they could still go on at 23:20 and play Chinese and Jungle.

At best we'll get a full two hour GN'R show, other than that the show will be cut depending how late they are. At worst they'll be no show/won't be allowed on. However, the trouble is that if there is a problem at Reading I can see Axl not bothering to do Leeds as well. It would also mean that Guns couldn't really play another UK festival. I spoke to some people at this year's Download who were at Download '06 and said GN'R were partly to blame for the riots. (I don't know how true this is though) Also, if Axl's lateness is to blame for the bands' show effectively getting cancelled the band will be none too happy.

Personally, I'm hoping for the best, Axl has come on stage on time in the past and I'm hoping that he will this time. I think he also knows that if he annoys the Reading/Leeds organisers he can kiss goodbye to doing any more UK festivals.

  19. I REALLY hope they don't pull the plug on GN'R, if they do I'll be really mad. Them and Queens Of The Stone Age are the only two bands I'm interested in seeing.
