  1. Axl doesn't necessarily need to hold a band together though as he owns the GN'R name and therefore it doesn't really matter who's in the band, it will still be called GN'R. Also most causal fans have just accepted that it's Axl and other musicians who come and go. There will never be an official breakup of Guns N' Roses. As king as Axl is going, GN'R will.

Perhaps, although I wonder how long Axl will want to continue like this. Sometimes things are more effort than they're worth. If you look at the amount of members that have come and gone post-2001 compared to the amount of material that's actually come out, it's a bit of a joke. Material coming out by members who have long since left the band, replacement bandmembers being drafted in to learn material written before they joined the group. If BBF or Tommy leave now, the majority of the members who made Chinese Democracy will no longer be in the band. People won't just be saying "this isn't the real Guns N Roses", they'll also be saying "this isn't even the New Guns N Roses."

It's almost as if Axl is sabotaging his own band. I think New Guns need to find some stability if they want to survive and stop the name Guns N Roses from becoming a complete joke. Otherwise a reunion may be the only option Axl has left.

Yeha I agree, my comment above was that as long as Axl is around GN'R will be. I don't mean I don't care about the band members or I necessarily agree with it it's just I think in Axl's mind he is GN'R and people can come and go and the band will continue.

Of course, I'd love a stable lineup but I don't think it will happen.

  3. It's not necessarily how long after the last band that annoys people its the time that GN'R hit the stage. KISS, AC/DC, Roger Waters, Robert Plant, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains and many more all hit the stage at a time which means the show will be over so that fans can get back home that night. 10:30 is a late start. All the bands I've seen have never gone on stage past half nine at the very latest. Usually its 9, sometimes half 8. It's called being respectful to the fans.

Now, me being a diehard GN'R fan accept the lateness and stay in a hotel to be on the safe side however what people on this forum have to realise is that not everyone at these shows is a diehard GN'R fan they won't not get home that night just to see a band, they haven't made prior arrangement as they assume like every other act on the planet GN'R's show will be over by 11.

Not everyone will buy Axl going on stage around 90 minutes later than every other act just because he wants to and I think this is what annoys people at least I know it did at Reading and these people were GN'R fans. If there was a valid reason and if it was once in a blue moon yeah I don't think people would mind but the point is there isn't really a valid reason.

Throwing bottles is stupid and those people should have been ejected but again stopping a show because of two plastic bottles is over the top. People probably throw them to get a response and they sure got a response last night, if Axl just pretended like noting happened he would have robbed them of a response. I saw a band called Texas support Roger Waters/Nick Mason at Hyde Park a few years ago and the lead singer got a shoe thrown at her! Did she refuse to come on stage? No, she hurled some abuse at the guy making him feel very small and carried on with the show. Also, why punish the entire crowd who have paid good money to see a show because of two people? You instantly turn the entire crowd against you.

If however Axl won't budge on the start times they're going to have to start printing it on the ticket. It's the only way to avoid drama like this.

  4. . A lot of bands do the same thing and nobody ever mentions anything.

    Like who?

I saw metallica the first concert I seen them at I waited around an hour and the one last year I waited 1 hour and 15 mins so out of the two concerts they done I went to they where late. People did get restless at the one last year but know one throw any hard objects of any kind.

Ah but what time did they hit the stage? It's just that some fans are probably annoyed because they have trains to catch. I live about an hour from London and have never not been able to get home after shows. If Metallica at those shows hit the stage at 10:30 or later fair enough. In fact I've seen Metallica twice (07 and 08) and been able to get home afterwards without a problem.

The concert last year was right around 11pm when they took the stage and concert was over by 12:30am so I fell I kind of got cheated because of the late start after seeing what the setlist where at some of the other concerts. But I will say I had a blast, just wish they would have played longer like they did at most of the other shows.

As far so the first concert all I remember is it took an hour for them to take the stage to long ago to remember the time.

    Fair enough.

  6. Sorry, but if glass bottles are being thrown at the band they're perfectly entitled to walk off stage. Axl didn't arse about with us in Belfast. No bottles were thrown. 10 past 10 is NOT a late start time. Danko Jones played until 9.10 in Belfast, and GNR were on the stage at 9.50. There's a massive set turnaround, so even if there were problems (and they were worried about some pyro at Belfast I noticed) then 1 hour is still reasonable.

Why do venues even allow glass bottles? It's crazy. Plastic caused no problems in Belfast. Axl had a great show. We all had a great time.

Nobody has actually confirmed they were glass and as far as I'm aware no big arenas allow glass bottles.

  7. Considering the overtly negative reports on the radio show from the people who left after the band first went on, it will be interesting to see how they contrast with the others who stayed for the rest of the gig.

It was probably a great show as the others have been. Press will say differently though and focus on the bottle incident.

  8. I wonder how much more drama Bumble will put up with.

lol I don't know but I sure hope he lasts 11 days.

I'd be gone by now if I were in that band.

I value my own mental health more than money.

It will be a sad day if he ever leaves at least Ashba will be there I guess. I'm sure though Axl will hire another great guitarist. Hopefully the rest of the Europe tour will go smoothly.

  9. This is what you get with GN'R, they go on late... the question is, are the audience going to continue to react this way at every show? If so, I wonder how long the band are going to stick with it, you can only take that kind of negativity for so long.

The people who boo are a small minority really, at reading there was some booing but the vast majority were just putting up with it. Also two bottles were thrown on stage not thousands. I don't think a small section of the audience represents the audience.

  10. I'm getting really tired of all the bullshit.

People need to chill the fuck out, but Axl also has to wake the fuck up.

You can't always blame others. It's been years...

And as somebody said, out of 4 shows, one has been drama free.

Now I don't even know anymore if I really want to travel my whole country to see such a retarded spectacle, given that there are 3 out of 4 chances that it turns out to be a lame show.

If it weren't for Bumble, I sure wouldn't go.

I wonder how much more drama Bumble will put up with.

  11. I don't defend going on late, but throwing bottles is NEVER JUSTIFIED.

Jesus christ some people. You go to a gig and then you throw fucking bottles at the act you've paid to see. Idiots.

Surely everyone who got tickets must've realized that GNR might not start at the very minute specified on them?

Not everybody who goes and sees a band knows all there is to know about them, joins a forum etc.

That's true, but this goes for every concert. I've been to plenty of concerts where other bands has come on late and nobody started to throw bottles because of it.

True, however I'd argue that those bands don't make a habit of it.

  13. has nothin to do with age

even 15 year olds have to catch a train or bus home

an hour wait with no explanation is long enough to stand around drink some more and wonder if the band will even show

if another band that isnt notorious for leaving their fans in the dark go on an hour late once in awhile fans dont have a panic attack or become hostile

but the constant disrespect for time has run its course it seems.......................good

I swear Axl could do anything and some people would defend it. Person on the radio said that at 12am the car park closes and you're being charged €100 if you leave it there overnight.

  14. Is it really over?

I can't believe this stuff. It getting to the point where it is to much. I mean, I'm not there, but if I was I'll be pissed, like the pople are that are there.

I'm a fan of Axl and he's a good songwriter and frontman, but he's gotta do something. I'm not saying change his whole lifestyle, but coming on late has had two kinds of possibilies:

    1) you come on, play Chinese Democracy and the crowd get's jumping an into the song and welcomes the band with open arms

    or

    2) you come on, the fans boo, throw bottles and cuss word's at you, than you leave. With a possible riot and damage to the venue and some people.

This whole blaming other people is getting old and so is he. He's either gotta stop being up all night and sleeping before the concert backstage o rwrite scheduled start time: 10:30, so if Axl is ready at 11, it'll be a half an hour late and not 2 hours late.

Even though no one deserves to have bottles thrown at them, it's their own fault. As you wait or "sleep," the fans become reckless and drunk. They don't want to tolerate this anymore. I realieze "this is Axl Rose and he always comes late," but seeing the circumstances and consequences that were at Reading, you would think Axl wouldn't do this kind of stuff. It's the first concert since Leeds and it's ends after 5 songs? Really.

  15. Axl should appear at a more reasonable time, but at the same time, I don't blame them for leaving if bottles are being thrown.

    10:30 isn't reasonable???

It's not a fucking choir meeting!!!

What time is printed on the ticket? That is where people's expectations come from that aren't registered on the message board.

As I have said repeatedly, clarifying that would do a world of good as far as eliminating any type of confusion on the part of people going to the show about when they can expect the band on stage.

    +1

However this won't ever happen as it would hurt ticket sales. Also, no other band goes on this late.

  16. Whilst throwing a bottle isn't right I don't get why thousands of people should have to suffer because one or two people throw bottles. Get them chucked out and carry on the show. Hell I went to a show and the band got a shoe thrown at them and they carried on.

What Axl doesn't get is that most of the arena were probably fans of the band and having a good time and now will remember the time they got ripped off. Lots of bands have stuff thrown at them and carry on. Also, people probably do it to get a reaction, now, if he didn't react it wouldn't happen.

Added: Appears the show is back on according to an above post....

  17. And whos to blame if a riot breaks out.. gnr or the shit throwing people!?

the people, but it will be blamed on the band

People shouldn't throw things, but if the band comes on at a reasonable time the crowd never becomes aggitated and bottles don't get thrown.

The late start creates the conditions for a hostile crowd. That is all on Axl.

    10:30 is reasonable

Well out of all the bands I've seen none have gone on stage at 10:30... [barring GN'R of course]

  18. Unbelievable. The second real GN'R show is cancelled after the 5th song? Are you kidding?

It is pretty depressing. :( Hoping this doesn't happen at Birmingham. Feel sorry for those people who booked hotels and travelled long distances. On the plus side this is one GN'R show you'll be able to get the train home after.

  19. dont want the band to get hurt but if people keep booing and showing their displeasure maybe he will realize he cant keep pulling the same dumbass shit

I am wondering if the promoter may pull the plug at some point.

Axl creates these conditions by insisting on going on when he does.

You also can't have the band dodging bottles all night, but people most likely wouldn't be throwing them were it not for the wait.

Something has to be done either way, because you can't have a situation where it is a nightly question as to whether they can make it through the show or not.

  20. A Shame that there's 2 people who f*ck up an show for 14.000 men.

it's serves them right that gnr is off stage.

Axl should just find those bitches and get in the crowd himeself and teach them a lesson or 2

So if you were at a concert you'd paid good money to go to which got ended you'd be all cool with Axl and the boys not coming back out?

  21. Ten past ten and crowd getting a bit pissed off.

And Axl wonders why people get annoyed and throw stuff at him. :shrugs:

As much as I admire the guy as an artist you can't have it both ways. You can't expect to come on stage late and the entire crowd to welcome you with open arms.

Now I accept the lateness but at the end of the day not everyone who goes to these shows is as forgiving as us.

  22. As I said in another thread Jimmy Page was playing Les Pauls and smoking on stage long before Slash was....

Whilst I agree Ashba isn't doing himself any favours with the Les Paul, the smoking and the hat in regards to the naysayers it doesn't really bother me. I did however notice at Reading people commenting about how like Slash he was in certain aspects though. The guy's always dressed like he does, he didn't change the minute he joined Guns. Also, you can take many guitarists and see how Slash inspired they are. And lots of musicians smoke on stage.

At the end of the day I'd be surprised if Ashba wasn'tinspired by Slash as Slash is a great guitarist and a rock icon. Ashba's dress sense is very different to Slash's and as somebody else said he looks more Mick Mars than Slash.
