  1. It's a great idea- more bands should do it. It may also make it tougher for touts/scalpers as whilst theres nothing like actually being at a gig if people can actually see it live they may not fork out stupid amounts of cash. Hell, I really wish Zeppelin did this back in '07, would have killed to have seen/heard that show in any capacity live.

Rio and now this, its been a great year :)

  2. It'd be cool if they used that and If The World, Axl always said that was his James Bond song. Too bad I think it got used on a different soundtrack, right?

I think If The World would be great as a Bond song but yeah it's already been used that being said if there is ever any new music made I'd love a nuGuns song to be a Bond theme. It would fit well I think as theyve certainly gone for a more 'rock' vibe for the last two what with Cornell and Jack White.

  3. Just curious, what accident?

Also, to the people saying bring buckethead back. It's just my opinion, but I didn't really like him. It's probably because the band seemed to have some phsyco, midlife crisis, strange, creepy feel to it durring that era.

He was in a car accident earlier in the year: Link

I agree re Buckethead, he's an amazing player but Ron's far better for GN'R in my opinion; amazing to his fans and he seems to gel far better on stage.

  4. Well it should be an interesting evening, I really do hope the new/current band are at least present in some way; Dizzy and Tommy would be the most obvious. Although Dio didn't get inducted with Sabbath at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or the UK Music Hall of Fame which was an insult IMO as Heaven And Hell is easily one of the best metal albums ever made, definitely up there with Paranoid. So personally I wouldn't be surprised if they're not present. Would also be interesting to see how Deep Purple is handled if/when they're inducted.

  5. I don't think it was a complete disaster, sure his voice wasn't perfect but it seemed like they put on a good show, it's not going to go down in the GN'R history books but it wasn't completely bad. Weather was awful and you can't really get the atmosphere of a concert via a live stream - the audience seemed to be having a great time. Could it have gone a lot better - sure but it's live music - if I wanted perfection I'd listen to the albums. I think half the problem is that people got so overly excited thinking he'd mention CD II, play tons of new songs and change up the setlist a great deal which was based on nothing but speculation. I'll agree the show felt a bit strange in that this is the first tour that doesn't seem overly special in that '01/'02 was a comeback with an interesting new band and new songs, '06 he was in great shape and CD seemed right around the corner and then '09/'10 it was the first tour after CD and the first opportunity to hear songs that hadn't been played before from that album. Now nothing seems on the horizon so I guess this tour is a bit 'meh' but still it was a good show, much better than other bands out there and indeed far more entertaining than the Myles/Slash shows. Sure Axl should rehearse more but even singers who rehearse like hell screw up now and again. As I said before, it's live music and as such shit happens.

  6. I enjoyed the show, sure it wasn't their best but it wasn't their worst. Whilst the beginning and end was a bit flat the middle of the set was great. It's pretty much what I expected, I think lots of people over-hyped this thing expecting new songs and a very different setlist and so were disappointed. I agree it was something of a wasted opportunity to herald a new era of GN'R but I don't think Axl's that interested in new music - some of the songs and song fragments are over a decade old now and I think if he really wanted them out they'd be out by now. When CD came out I figured releasing that album wouldn't be the test it would be if they could release a follow up soonish after and establish the new band.

  7. I'd say yes and I'm of the opinion that that's one of the reasons why he hired Ashba, I'm sure he and Ashba could pen a huge hit. That being said it doesn't really bother me if they do or don't release a hit song that would get tons of radio play but it would be great to see GN'R back on top and not getting overly criticized all the time. I always wondered why the ballads off CD weren't radio hits seeing as how mainstream radio stations play the hell out of November Rain.

  8. Kerrang's pretty bad nowadays, not much different to NME. Metal Hammer and Classic Rock Magazine are far better in my opinion. I also don't get how people think Myles is better than Axl, I mean I was AMAZED at Download last year when he was with Slash but then I saw Guns live and the Slash shows I've seen since pale in comparison. Axl is the best frontman around, no one comes close.

I don't buy Kerrang!, although I can't help but flick through it each week just to see whats going on. Each week there's page after page of 'bands' I've never heard of. Maybe it's always been that way. Maybe the current teen's are digging some of these bands. Maybe Rock / Metal is out of fashion, maybe it was never all that in fashion. I do wonder if we'll ever see again new bands that can match the might of the likes of Nirvana, Metallica, (what was) Guns N'Roses :shrugs:

There are some great new bands out there but they get covered more in CR/MH than Kerrang!, I think that on the whole rock/metal has gone out of fashion in terms of the mainstream and whilst it arguably was never in the mainstream it would break the singles/albums charts and get radio airplay. I mean I can remember around 2001/2 there still being a fair amount of rock getting played on the radio.

  9. 10. Great review and I wholeheartedly agree with your comments about Myles. At Birmingham and High Voltage he just seemed to be a bland frontman, no Axl or Scott that's for sure. The guy sure can sing though but as you say he doesn't live the songs. Also, don't know if this was a problem for previous dates but at the shows I went to the sound was pretty awful.

So yeah New Guns live > Slash live.

  11. The current Thin Lizzy are a great band and can't wait to see them Richard this weekend but great as they are I doubt he would pick Lizzy over GN'R. Guns always will be the bigger act and thus from a career perspective it must make sense for him to stick with GN'R. Also, there is pretty much no prospect of new Lizzy material and whilst you could also argue that with Guns I think Scott Gorham explicitly said at one point no new music under the Lizzy banner. However, considering that the current frontman, Ricky Warwick, is a great songwriter I hope this stance changes and in an interview he said there is a possibility of them releasing one new song and seeing what reaction it gets.

  12. I never understood why being an Axl/GN'R fan means you can't be a Slash/VR fan. I wouldn't consider myself an Axl or Slash fan but a Guns N' Roses fan and I admire all the musicians who have passed through this band, they've all added something interesting and unique to the Guns sound.

The anti Slash fanboys are just as tiresome as the anti Axl ones, always dragging up the Superbowl show and okay it was godwaful and cringeworthy but that doesn't negate the fact that Slash had some truly amazing tracks on his last album and is putting on awsome shows; I was blown away at Download last year. Also, Slash's guitar playing had a huge impact on the sound of the classic band, the reason I'm guessing most of us are here or got into GN'R in the first place.

The people who come on here just to bash Axl and the new band are also tiresome, NuGuns has been active since 2001, so that's ten years now, get over it. Yes, there are all aspects of the way Guns works that annoy us but if it hasn't changed in the past decade I doubt it will in the next. Also, I don't see the point in spending time on a forum for a band you dislike, I'm not a huge fan of the current direction Robert Plant has chosen in abandoning hard rock but I don't go on a Plant/Zeppelin forum and whine about it.

  13. Yeah I wouldn't call the current guitarists "star" guitar players as in well known in wider circles other than in GN'R fandom. They are of course hugely talented individuals.

As for whether Axl will I don't know. The fact is we all know that one of the big obstacles in terms of a big name guitarist hooking up with Axl/GN'R is the late start times and if a big name guitarist say someone like Zakk Wylde or Jimmy Page were to play with Guns they probably wouldn't put up with it and all the other drama for an extended period. However, you can bet if say Axl was working with someone like Jeff Beck Axl would probably be more professional in that regard.

In the studio however is another matter as of course Brian May did some (unreleased officially) solos for CD so who knows maybe there could be a few guest spots in the future. Personally I'd love an Axl/Page collaboration as everyone seems to be on both their backs regarding new music.
