Me too, but I'm not that damned disciplined. I am supposed to be attending an ayahuasca retreat this spring though.

Be aware that if you aren't ready to have your life entirely turned upside down and being "forced" to become that damned discipilined, attending the retreat is a terrible idea.

Ayahuasca is known to cause and deepen spiritual awakenings. A spiritual awakening is a moment of clarity and peace during which you are able to observe the inner workings of reality and of your mind with an unusual clarity. The problem is that once you've peaked behind the veil, it's impossible to keep on living the life you had before because most of the things you did unconsciously or out of fear become unbearable to you.

To sum it up, I've had a similar experience and it was basically a few weeks of Heaven followed by years of the darkest of Hell that forced me to look at my life and everything that was fake about it and fix it. During that time I lost a lot of people and even though I'm very grateful for the eye opening experience, it isn't something to be taken lightly.

  2. Through cloud learning, robots were able to teach themselves how to walk, how to beat hardcore super mario levels by actually playing them ( being plugged into the game, not sharing code with it ) and stuff like that.

In theory, if someday a nation was bound on building an army of evil robots, it could let those robots teach themselves how to kill through a cloud learning marathon with war prisoners, or slaves. Given enough time, you'd face an army of killer robots with insane reflexes, aiming etc...

Some scientists believe that AI is the next logical step in consciousness evolution and I don't think they are necessarily wrong. Through cloud learning, machines can outperform us at  more or less every task if given enough time to practice...

I used to laugh at the idea of AI taking over but now that machines can teach themselves how to do a task and excel at it faster than any human can, I don't think that eventuality is a laughing matter anymore.

I am not saying nothing should be done about terrorism, but that the media reaction should be balanced to its effect on society/humans  Re: Kasonova's statement that it is crazy how numb we have become. That New Yorkers are doing what Londoners have been doing, living life and not being too affected by it, "being numb", is the right response. But sure, anti-terror work must continue. Like anti-choking on food work.

I agree with you but I think it's being covered the way it is because in the past there have been way more devastating attacks and even though this particular one "only" killed nine people, given the right tools and preparation, followers of that same putrid ideology can be way more dangerous. Attacks aren't being covered as separate incidents but as different episodes of an ongoing war, which I'm afraid it is.

Each attack is also a preview of the next one, that's how terrorism works, by creating a feeling of unpredictability and unsafety among the population.

That being said, I agree, giving each attack massive exposure is encouraging more attacks to happen, but I suppose it's only human not to brush them aside as we maybe should.

  4. Yeah it depends through what lense you are looking at the situation.

In the grand scheme of life and the universe, nuking North Korea wouldn't matter at all either. For the same reason, statistically, terrorism has very little reason to scare us.

But it's not about us and our unimportant lives in the grand tapestry of reality, it's about the human tragedies of the families that were unjustly impacted by this and what can or can't be done to prevent others to experience that as well.

No self-respecting nation can rationalize people plotting to massacre its citizens simply because the casualties aren't through the roof just yet.

  5. Not fond of the singing on the album but Ron's playing on SOA is ridiculously good and you can tell he actually took the time to write solos that complement the songs and what the other players are playing. He restrained himself a bit, didn't go full BBF mode, and it really does wonders for the band which actually sounds like a band rather than BBF playing with other guys.

After following his career for the last fifteen years, it's actually refreshing to hear him play in a band and actually sound like he's part of said band.

been waiting for this for two years now.

IF (very big if) the OP is a success and the patient wake up and have the same personality as before, i wonder what religious people are gonna say about the human soul when it's just the brain that make who we are (if that's the case ofc). I highly doubt that the patient gonna wake up and not be paralyzed. It would take som balls to volunteer though!

Quantum physics has actually been investigating the possibility that the brain is just a  receiver and that our thoughts and memories come ( and are stocked if you will ) on the quantum field that surrounds us and constitutes the reality we experience...( hence why some patients wake up from a coma speaking foreing languages they never learned before and that sort of stuff ).

So even in that case they won't totally be debunked yet.

What I’m saying is hes after the money here, if he knows something why not just stick it out on youtube?  Why does he require 10 mill on crowdfund first?

While I think asking for money to make a movie about it is a bit tacky, I understand asking for money to pay for protection for his family. The guy has been hinting at the existence of a pedophile ring in Hollywood, pretty disturbing stuff ( other former child actors like Elijah Wood and former FBI agents have hinted at the same thing ).

I believe the kind of people involved in these circles wouldn't mind going the extra mile to shut him and his family up  so I get where he is coming from.

  8. Our free will only goes as far as our inner child allows us to. We are a societal construct, the product of our childhood traumas, no need to have had a shitty childhood to have them.

The sooner you learn how to integrate those wounds, the most free will you can reclaim for yourself and the more your real personality reveals itself.

  9. Thing is, nine years after the release of the album, fifteen years after the lineup that wrote it disbanded, and even two years after Slash and Duff returned in GnR, people are still talking about it, about how much it wasn't GnR.

Like it or not, for all the wrong reasons maybe, it seems like it did make an impact, at least within the fanbase.

  10. I'm pretty sure one of the controversed underlying assumption of quantum theory is that the entire universe only comes into existence the moment an observer ( human, animal, machine... ) is aware / witnesses / measures its existence, that matter is actually a cloud of probabilities that freezes in and out of existence, in and out of stasis the moment it is observed.

So how much of a stretch is it to say that the universe ( as welll as everyone of us ) only exist if Something is there to witness its existence ( kinda like a server only generates a gameworld when a player logs in to play ).

  11. Seen it on release day in IMAX 3D and can't stop thinking about it two weeks later. Still constantly feeling its atmosphere ( listening to both the Vangelis and Hans Zimmer scores doesn't help ).

Might have to see it again this weekend. Too bad they don't show it in IMAX anymore.

Loved the book and the movie.

Still think this sequel is unnecessary.

If I had any more respect for Hollywood I would pay to watch this. I will download it later.

Way to ruin your experience of one of the only movies worth paying for and supporting in the last few years...

Visuals were impeccable and had some standout moments of genuinely cool imagery. Sound also had a lot of attention to detail, I thought the deliberately lousy sound quality of the video calling in the car was a nice touch.

Anyone saying this is better than Blade Runner is just wrong lol that is just being swept up in hype. This film won't hold up well at all. Plot sucks. Characters suck. This film has nothing to say. It bombards the audience with a spectacle because it is all style, no substance.

    2.5/5

This is what I don't get though.

I have massive respect for the cinematography, the mood, set pieces, soundtrack and atmosphere of the original Blade Runner but I can't see what was so amazing about its plot though.
I mean sure, the setting and the general intrigue was interesting but the plot itself ? There barely is an investigation in there. Some of the dialogues are kinda awkward ( the scene where Deckard pretends to be an inspector from the commitee on moral abuses with a dumb nasal voice ), the scene when Deckard is reminded what a Nexus 6 is by his former boss despite being a Blade Runner...

While not amazing, I was way more captivated by the story of 2049, simply because it took the time to establish good emotional connection between the audience and K so the theme of loneliness worked rather well to explain most of the character's actions and reactions. I understand that Deckard's grumpiness and darkness was supposed to be a throwback to film noir male characters but I felt way more connected to Ryan Gosling's character.

While the plot-twists ( if you can call them that ) were not amazing in 2049, they worked well enough to keep me engaged throughout my first viewing, which is way more than I can say for the original Blade Runner ( during which I was, as I said, way more impressed by the visual experience ).

  14. It made 50 millions in three days and the week-end as just started. While not as amazing as they should be the numbers are not bad either. Not yet at least.

Let's have some hope as most viewer reviews are pretty good, unlike Alien : Covenant for which they were mixed at best.

And yes, a Villeneuve version of Dune would be amazing. Probably miles better than the masterpiece in the making that was Jodorowsky's version would have been. Fingers crossed.

  15. I really like the OST.

Sure there are no memorable songs like Rachel's song or Tales from the Future from the first Vangelis score but the dark ambient mood and the sound design ( loved that aggressive slider taking off sound they added ) really fits with the bleak scenery.

Absolutely loved the interaction between the music and on-screen shots of K's slider flying over Los Angeles in the rain for the first time, that long slow shot when you see the streets from way above and can only make out the neons. Really builds up the anticipation and you know you are in for a visual treat.

I'm so fucking excited to see it. I thought IMAX was only 2D for it though? All the IMAX theaters within 100 miles of me only have it in 2D...

That is what I thought too especially after seeing specific articles about the fact that Imax cinemas would stop showing 3D movies starting with Blade Runner 204o but Paris la Villette is showing it in 3d Imax and oh boy is it worth it.
