Out of all the songs on CD, "Street of Dreams" was the one closest to Slash's wheelhouse. He didn't have to play it note for note, but he wasn't even in the same stratosphere. And its a pretty simple solo. Im an amateur and can play that solo note for note. Its obviously not because he *can't* play it, its because he doesn't care. These guys are just collecting paychecks at this point.
Better, Sorry, and SOD all had very Slash-like solos, and when Slash played them he tried to play them like what he interprets Bucket/Ron's playing style to be. It's real weird.

There's a real good vintage Slash solo somewhere in SOD, with about 300 extra noodle notes added. Axl is unlistenable on the entire song, though. God damn that was rough. Even in the worst periods of 2011-2014, SOD was usually pretty good even when it was 100% Mickey. But fuck lmao.

Have there been any good Hard School/Absurd performances so far this year

Reckless Life absolutely should have been on AFD instead of Anything Goes

Wonder what Foo Fighters song Axl will butcher through this tour

Studio Axl backing vocals on most CD songs performed has been the norm since at least 2009-2010. It is what it is. The studio Locomotive has 3 Axl's in the chorus and would sound terrible with one of any of Axl's current voices.

Yea there was RTB mixes of The Blues and Madagascar leaked around the same time.
Maybe you're thinking of evader's mix of Silkworms?
Maybe. Is the BBF version easy to find anywhere these days?
-
I do not remember the Silkworms but did remember OMG and it was basically the same as the released track but with the riff doubled and I think some more noodles. But I felt like I remembered there being a Silkworms with him and it actually had the chorus from HOB/Rio maybe?
-
I forget when all of the leaks came out, was there a Bumblefoot version of Silkworms or just OMG/Going Down?

I'd be pretty pleased for Atlas and Perhaps to drop

Axl obviously did more vocals after 1999-2000 as he was still adding overdubs and new vocals through 2006-2007. It seems pretty silly to think he really just did CD overdubs and Shackler's and nothing else during that period.

Songs that make the most sense for Slash/Duff reworkings:
Hardschool
Atlas
Perhaps
Mustache
Quick Song
Oklahoma
Tonto
Me and My Elvis
Curly Shuffle
However, the idea of Slash on Silkworms was hilarious banter until last summer and it turned out to go pretty hard so maybe there's a chance SOG and Eye on You could someday see some kind of release

It took 5 1/2 years for this organization to come up with "release a single or two every 8 months until there is enough for an album, then release a compilation"? Lmao
-
This mix is so, so, so much better than the actual album. It's wild. Most of these songs sound entirely new compared to the trash mix on the album.

Myles has the dullest verses possible, across all SMKC albums. There's usually decent to good choruses (although they're also fairly repetitive by now), but Myles' melodies and lyrics for verses especially are just so boring.

Whats wrong with the melody in e.g. Whatever Gets You By, especially in chorus? You call it bland I call you deaf or ignorant, seriously dude.
Specifically in Whatever Gets You By? He's just following the guitar and basslines. He completely blends into both to the point where it wouldn't make a difference if he wasn't even singing at all. It's not like this is a new critique of Myles. His melodies and lyrics are very bland and generic. This particular album he sounds (and looks) completely bored out of his mind.

This album sounds terrible. Super muddy, super compressed, drums have no power at all, bass is overpowering in every song, and Myles is bringing the blandest melodies possible to every song.
-
The last 2 or 3 Slash albums have had obscenely smushed and compressed sound and I hope whoever is involved with those is not allowed anywhere near GNR tracks, but both Absurd and Hardskool gave into the loudness war so I don't have much hope on that front.

I don't think Slash plays any of the CD material better than Bucket or Robin, but both Robin and Bucket frequently played Slash's parts in a way I liked more. I think it comes down to Bucket/Robin were more respectful of the material and legacy of Guns and Slash than Slash is of CD stuff. But I would also suggest that Slash doesn't seem very interested or respected in his own material for much of NITL, either.

Both of the takes without Axl are wonderful. The set up and mixing for the live band just in the groove could have made for a great live record or at least AOL Sessions.
-
You know what, fuck it, I played this in the car full blast and it was actually pretty cool. Probably could have done decently in the club scene in 1999/2000. Each delivery of the verse/chorus/only lyrics are different so it isn't a copy/paste job, but I'm sure it isn't finished, either.
-
What a thing to wake up to lmao
Tbh, musically and the chorus melody is pretty good. Take out the Mack Daddy thing (which wasn't even a cool phrase by 1999-2000) and have lyrics for all the verses/chorus instead of the same line over and over and it could be a solid bootleg NIN song.

What happened to Slash's guitar playing?
in GUNS N' ROSES - DISCUSSION & NEWS

Slash's playing has been like this with SMKC for the past few tours with them as well. He just plays out ahead of the rest of the band and noodles as a fill for the rest of the band to catch up. There's been a ton of Guns shows in the past at least 3-4 years where Slash also seems to be improving his own solos and playing them weird as well.
I have to think the main culprit is moving to IEMs at the start of the reunion.
