  1. Watched (500) Days Of Summer earlier, thought it was quite good.

That's nice. I thought only girls would like this movie. I loved it as well. Those two are simply adorable.

From what I recall the girl seemed like an annoying heartbreaking biatch...but yeah the movie was good.

Watching it today after what I had heard, I expected her to be much much worse.

Despite her breaking his heart, she didn't love him so its understandable she would end it.

I guess, but the way she went about it and the way she acted in general seemed bitchish...but he probably ended up with Minka Kelly, so it's all good.

  3. For me I'd give a slight edge to CD. It has some terrible stuff (Riad, Shackler, Scraped) but it also has some really good stuff (TWAT, ITW, Prostitute, Sorry). Slash is probably more consistent but also isn't as ambitious so it doesn't ever reach the heights of CD's best stuff. All in all neither is great but both are good IMHO.

    CD = 7.5/10

    Slash = 7/10

I'd give them both a 7, but considering the circumstances surrounding both the albums...CD is an epic failure if we're being honest and Slash's album is just a pretty cool rock record with a bunch of different singers.

So, Axl's epic failure is equal to Slash's good work... :tongue2:

You understand the concept of degree of difficulty, right?

There's a difference between funding an album as a guitarist with a bunch of different singers in a relatively short period of time and taking over 10 years making a band album with tens of millions of dollars....I like about the same number of songs from both albums, but it wouldn't be accurate to judge them in the exact same way.

  5. Wow, that Messages from Madagascar was fantastic. Axl's vocals with Slash's guitars is pure magic.

    +1

I've listened to "Messages from Madagascar" like 40 times today."

Very chill song. It's even better if you imagine that Axl is singing about those who say a reunion will never happen...."IT'S NEVER TOO LATE"

  6. He's one of my favorite directors, as I've learned.

    Zodiac

    Fight Club

    (now) Se7en

    The Social Network

Alien 3 is, well... Alien 3. :shrugs:

Benjamin Button was alright. Not all that bad, but not too great either.

I guess now I need to check out The Game and Panic Room.

Zodiac isn't that good when you really think about it. Same goes for The Game, Panic Room, and Benjamin Button.

Fincher's not bad, but I find it a little depressing that a guy who makes a lot of "just all right" films is considered one of the recent bests.

  7. I don't think the legendary Guns N Roses (1987-93) will ever be a "niche" thing, Millions of people and countless other young people that are just getting into that version of GNR will always hold it in VERY high regard. That becomes more and more the case as time goes on. Hence the constant talk/desire of most people concerning a reunion.

As for them losing a little luster in the early 90's to some people was partly the slight expansion of musical styles on UYI and frankly a lot of people became a little sick and tired of Axl's antics. If most of the original band came back though they would be just as big worldwide as Metallica and AC/DC and probably even more so because GNR is just more exciting than those bands.

  8. all axl would have to do is sing 30 seconds of jungle ( martin, look up any video from 2010 if you want k?) and the whole place would errupt. Hell even play the intro and chinese and it would get a great reception, (I dont think the general fans in that superbowl audience even knew that slash was playing slither either lol)

People there would erupt either way, they did for BEP's too. People watching on TV would notice the actual singing. Kinda like the VMA performance in 2002. But why are you switching songs on me? The whole discussion is about SCOM, seeing as that is what was played.

You can't compare reactions to the '02 VMA's because his voice doesn't sound like that anymore. You can't fault Axl on his vocal performance he has been pulling it out the bag pretty consistently for a few years now.

I was making a point about how you can't just judge the performance by the crowd erupting in Gunns5's example. People live will get excited for a lot of things, just like the VMA 2002 audience, but they're probably not paying as close attention to the actual singing as the people watching on TV. Axl's vocals are a lot better than 2002, but as the 2010 video shows above, a lot of people would be claiming he sucks if he sang like that on national television.

  10. shit if all axl had to do is sing 30 seconds of the song and that was it, it would sound studio quality axls voice on SCOM since 2006 has been fine sounds great

You think Axl in that video above (2010 live) sounds great?

I'm not trying to hate on Axl, but some perspective needs to be added. If he sang SCOM live at the superbowl it wouldn't go down well. I'm happy to listen to another recent live performance of SCOM if that particular video is an anomoly, but I doubt it.

  11. Haha, okay.

He'll change 20 years of precedent because he's really focusing this time. Are you implying he's not trying his best when he tours?

Okay, I just went to youtube and typed in "Guns N Roses Sweet Child O Mine 2010" and picked the first vid: If Axl sang like this in front of 110 million in the USA alone, he would be written off as a complete hack and totally washed up. All the people would be comparing it to the studio quality track they've heard 100's of times and it simply pales in comparison. That's a fact.

  12. As for Axl, he was probably glad he wasn't in Fergie's shoes last night with the amazingly tough SB halftime show critics because there is NO WAY he would've hit the notes consistently through the whole song on that stage and people would be claiming he was a horrible singer.

Axl wouldn't have been able to sing SCOM live? Oh yeah because he mimes usually?

Axl rarely ever sings that song that well live...By well I mean sounding consistent all the way through and hitting all the notes. People seem to love to hate on SB halftime shows and if Axl sang that song like he usually does in front of 110 million people in America the response would not have been kind.

  13. Slash must be gutted with himself. Sell out.

Yeah a guy obliging a friend's request to play with her on music's biggest stage is selling out... A sellout would be a dumbass who wouldn't do it because he didn't think it was "cool" enough to do for his "image."

  14. Not really, the Dean Martin hosted Man of the Hour roasts are good though. Kind of like an entertainers RNC.

Those Dean Martin Roast's are amazing to watch! Look them up on youtube.

He's sort of right to target them, they make up much of the Democratic base. What he wouldn't acknowledge is that they are far too moderate by any standard, including that that they set in the 60s.

Who are too moderate? Hippies or the Democratic Party?

But it's not the 1960s anymore. There's very few Hippies. And not all Hippies hated soldiers and threw bombs like he claims. There were patriotic hippies.

He demonizes them. And he demonsizes Woodstock ALL THE TIME, as well as writers like Nietzsche, Freud, etc as evil.

Againstallodds is essentially saying the failed because most of them became sell outs. "Dead Head Sticker on a Cadillac" comes to mind. They still left a trail of destruction on social things such as two parent households imo though.

  15. The best films are not necessarily the ones with the best script, acting or directing though.

Absolutely! This is why Commando is the greatest film in the history of cinema.

Have you seen American Ninja 1-4. Don't speak too soon if you haven't.

I'm 31 years old and male what do you think? That shit was all I watched as a kid, Commando's still the daddy though I'm afraid.

Here's a few more to take into account too. UC check some of these out they're sure to put a smile on your face!

As a kid Van Damme and Kickboxer specifically was EPIC!

Oh and The Last Boy Scout is fucking great. Can't believe it didn't become bigger than it did. I've seen it countless times and anytime I end up showing it to friends they end up loving it as well.

  16. It was devise by Axl, not Slash:

Slash: In the end Axl finished his work, but fuck, those two records cost a fortune to make - and I'm talking studio time alone. This was when Axl started getting obsessive about the details of everything to do with Guns n' Roses, starting with the publishing splits of the songs on Illusion I and II. The days of band members getting a straight 20 percent were long gone because they were so many outside writers this go-round, especially on the old songs that existed before Guns that were now in equation, such as "Back Off Bitch". We also had to factor in Matt, who wasn't a full-fledged member: he hadn't been around during the writing of the songs, though he's played on all of them. In the end, because of contributors like Paul Huge and West Arkeen and Del James, Axl insisted upon splits that were like 22.75 percent or 32.2 percent per song for us core members. [...] The songs we worked on in Chicago also posed a problem because those months were so disjointed, and for the most part, Axl wasn't even there, so the splits he devised for songs like "Garden of Eden", "Don't Damn Me" and "Get In The Ring" were totally arbitrary; Duff and I wrote them instrumentally when Axl wasn't even in the room. There were piano-driven songs with complex guitar parts that I'd had to write and arrange that I wasn't even being given a songwriting credit. It was the same with "November Rain" and "Estranged" to be specific. It concerned me, to say the least, but I chose to overlook it.

Yeah, I don't think guitar solos always should equal a songwriting credit, but November Rain and Estranged are two where Slash should've gotten a co-written by credit without any argument. Many would argue his work on those are what makes the songs great....he shouldn't have overlooked that. If he was willing to spend time making the video and over $1 million dollars of the band's money he should've made sure the songwriting credit situation was taken care of imo.

  17. Man on a Wire was excellent.

    .

Don't burn three dollars to rent Buried. Ryan Reynolds is a terrible actor in general. But watching him - and only him - for 90 minutes is painful. He was a bit funny in Waiting. But other than that, I don't know he gets acting jobs.

    .

Not that he was ever in the "greatest actors of our generation" conversation, but Val Kilmer has done some pretty good movies. What the heck happened to his career? I just watched him in a C-movie. Not even a B movie. But a straight-to-cable type movie.

    Kilmer is a god

Might watch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang later.

Good taste. Kilmer is in quite a bit of straight to DVD fare it seems. He needs to lose weight if he wants to get back to the big time.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang should be so much bigger than it is though....him, Downey Jr. and the movie are great!
