What I love in all of this is how the band (mostly Axl) and TB are being absolutely hush on this. They (again mostly Axl) know exactly what this song means to the die hards and know how much chaos they’re causing by staying silent. They love it… I’m sure Axl is well aware of this and having a good chuckle at us 😅

What would be funny is if they name swapped Atlas and The General just to screw with us

Okay, I looked into it. In the case of STP there seems to be registration only for Kitchenware & Candybars (Second Album is not included in the registered title, but there's no separate registration for it either).

In the case of Green Day, the two tracks are registered separately. I also looked for Blur's Chemical World/Intermission and Resigned/Commercial Break, and the tracks are registered separately in this case, too.

So basically it’s possible Monsters could be a hidden track that could later be registered separately later on. But potentially unlikely.

    So no closer to knowing.

I don't think so, unless it's a case of two songs combined into one in the writing process and become one cohesive song, like, e.g. Rocket Queen that someone mentioned earlier, but that's a whole other thing.

Do you have any examples of two songs combined as you describe it from other bands/artists, so we can look into it? For GN'R we have the different cases of Buick Makane/Big Dump Sex and I Don't Care About You/Look At Your Game, Girl but these don't count because they are covers of songs by different artists and writers, so they were already registered separately.

    From a quick search.

Green Day - F.O.D with All By Myself

Stone Temple Pilots - Kitchenware & Candybars with Second Album

Then I guess this could be checked: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_albums_containing_a_hidden_track:_A

It it were two tracks, they would definitely be registered on SESAC separately. The databases like SESAC, ASCAP etc. list the songwriters per track, not release.

Would that also be the case if it was a single track that was 2 songs combined with inserted silence?

Is it possible 2 songs could be in one single track and all the credits for both songs are combined into a single listing for registry? Especially with how long it took some tracks to show up on the registry? Could it be possible that at a later date there could be 2 separate entries made?

Legit questions though. I was only spitballing ideas

  5. So Fernando says “Perhaps is a great song, The General is a Monster”

The song register info comes out, title: The General and Monsters

Perhaps Fernando was giving us a hint without really say it out right. A play on words of sort.

A 7” single wouldn’t fit 2 songs on one side. So we get The General. Maybe there will be another version released and it’s a track that has a bonus hidden track.

    The General (Hidden Track: Monsters)

Which leads to the question if it’s 2 tracks.. one of the tracks would be The General. What is Monsters? Is it Monstrocity or Soul Monster renamed? Or something entirely new?

I don’t think the “Heys” from Eye on You are an indication one way or another about the amount of songs in the vault or if Axl recorded more vocals. I think with these sessions the intention was to always cherry pick the best “elements” from songs to form complete songs. Sort of like a hip hop recording session. As someone else has said Hard Skool could’ve got the Heys in 2004.

What im curious about with the General is if the old tour intro is fully a part of the song or not. A 7” record usually doesn’t hold more than 6 minutes of music (it’s possible, Springsteen has a 10 minute song, but I’m not expecting a ton of format maximizing efforts from GnR.) I wouldn’t be surprised if that tour intro was one of those “elements” repurposed from a previous version of the General.

I took it as more of an Easter egg for the locker leak people. The ones who know. And probably because eye on you will never be used

It's been rectified, and now they don't have to worry about potentially breaching consumer law for misleading advertising! :D :D :D

"L'uscita rock più attesa del 2023, i Guns N' Roses tornano con un singolo inedito intitolato Perhaps.

Scritto e registrato quest'anno da Axl Rose, Slash e Duff McKagan, è la prima uscita della leggendaria rock band dal 2021 e la prima composizione e registrazione collettiva in trent'anni da The Spaghetti Incident? del 1993.

Il 7" include un altro brano inedito sul lato B, The General."

So... Does that mean "No The General on digital ever" is false since they removed that section,

meaning we will get it on digital at some point? 👀 :headbang: Is that weird rumour finally dead?

Still calling Side-R as side B though, lol

Now let’s kill the rumor about it being only an instrumental

  8. I have a feeling we will see the release happen digitally. But if it’s true and it isn’t supposed to be released digitally and only as a vinyl b-side. I do think that could be because it’s the original version of the song. No re-recording. Which could explain it being a b-side that became a super deep cut aimed at this fanbase and the select people who buy the single in the standard fan base.

It sucks, but I don’t think people would have been as bothered if it wasn’t for the 2 months of waiting for release. Had the single dropped as quick as that “greatest hits” vinyl. I think people would have been more content. The waiting is what’s wrong it seems

If the intention is to have a clear-out before recording new material, does this mean they're just going to scrap Atlas altogether?

I mean, they clearly won't release anything when they're off the road. If its true that they're taking an extended break from touring to work on new material then it doesn't bode well for a potential release of Atlas.

It depends, if Atlas is really on the slate to be released. It could be a sort of parting gift at the end of tour. The rumor is Atlas for November. And the last show is in November now.

Folks also seem to try to fit anything they hear about or find into what was included in the Village "locker" leaks. There's no doubt additional material existed back then, that were not part of those leaks.

Exactly, and some of those demos could certainly have morphed into other known songs. Or could have been just abandoned all together. Even with as much material as there was on the village discs. It was only a piece of the puzzle. Nice size one for us. But could be small in the grand scheme.

Yes, in early 2001. But why do we think that song is the General? It's likely that the General didn't even exist as a song at that time.

But it’s also very possible it did exist in some fashion. Marco worked on The General in 2002. So either they wrote it while working with him or it existed prior to 2002. I imagine before they’d bring him in the core structure would have to have been done. I’m not agreeing the songs about child abuse. I’m also not doubting it. But I do believe The General predates 01/02. It’s entirely possible The General was a song heavily revamped from an older demo/idea along the way.

Side Note: Personally I’d love to see Single EPs released showing demos from the conception idea to the final matured vision. Have a release of like 5 different versions of a single song from 1998 to 2023 or whatever. I think it would be neat for hardcore fans. But I also realize it would be difficult in crediting people
