Ashba would still be in the band, he left only when it was clear that Slash was returning to the band.

Maybe they would go back to 2 guitarists, Ashba and Fortus, and a new bassist. Imagine that.

In that case, Fortus would be lead and Ashba would be rhythm. I can’t imagine the roles being reversed. DJ had to pass the harder solos off to Bumblefoot because he couldn’t play them.

And I say this as someone who really liked DJ’s work on the Beautiful Creatures album.

The fact that Perhaps has been a significant improvement in the production, mixing and mastering front, is an indication that GN'R took the related complaints about Absurd and Hard Skool into account, and that's why they worked with different people for mixing and mastering. So there's hope that the 2021 tracks have gotten a new mix, too.

Could that be why Axl and Slash were in the studio a few months back?

Read my lips, although you can't: there will be no such thing as "new GNR music."

If that really was the plan all along, why wait 5 years after the reunion to get rid of those songs? Why not use the momentum? They did literally nothing for 5 years in terms of new songs and now they suddenly remembered to throw out the CD stuff so they can work on new music? Give me a break.

I'm thankful for every new release, be it CD or new stuff - but I just don't see it happening.

Isn’t it pretty much accepted that the plan was to release Hard Skool and Absurd in 2020, but COVID pushed it back a year?

Yes, it's better for this to have its own thread (because it's been posted in 4-5 other threads but some people haven't even seen it yet). So thanks for starting it. :)

“We’re clearing things out — priming the pumps for things that have been around that we wanna get out and release before releasing new music,” he says.

Especially with that quote in it.

I have a feeling a lot of it was also personality-based. Axl might be running this show, but Slash and Duff wouldn’t join a completely miserable situation. I’m sure Axl took stock of his lineup and chose who would work well together. Slash and Duff clearly like Richard - there seems to be a mutual respect between them. And, despite what Matt Sorum and other drum geniuses here say about Frank’s playing, he seems like a good dude and easy to get along with.

Chris Pitman seemed a little too up his own ass for a second keyboard player.

    But anyway, back to Izzy…

Axl, to me, seems the most hurt that Izzy isn’t involved. Izzy’s his old pal from Indiana - they have the longest history together. He expressed frustration with Izzy in the Brazilian interview but never went so far as to slam him, outright. And he’s always telling Izzy anecdotes from the stage. Axl wouldn’t budge on his demands, but I bet he’s frustrated that his friend isn’t there.

Richard and Frank have been a package deal since Love Spit Love and the Psychedelic Furs. It’s safe to assume that they’re probably close friends and if one were to leave, I’m sure the other would follow.

About people saying that Guns N'Roses are very Fan unfriendly, I have seen only TWO incidences where Axl was unfriendly to Fans, one incident being much worse than the other. Incident one, Axl was in an Airport getting ready for a flight to go to a show and he was being hounded for Autographs and Selfies and he had a look of,"I'm being hounded by my fans! Help! "😱😳 Those emojis express his face in that video succinctly.

Incident two, Axl was CLEARLY in a rush to get somewhere and he had Fans hounding him for Autographs and Selfies when he once again was CLEARLY in a rush to get somewhere. He cussed the Fans out and ran away! 🤣 The other thing about Axl is while he's happy to do Selfies, he usually looks unhappy( jaded, pissed, shocked, sad, or scared. )It's rare to see a Fan Selfie where Axl is SMILING, although there is a fan VIDEO where a Fan did an impromptu meet and greet backstage where Axl is smiling but implied he has no idea what the hell the Fan was doing backstage so late. Luckily he was in a good mood because this impromptu meet and greet could have went REALLY badly. He even hugged her. 😀 He apologized for her being a fan of his since she was 9, LMAO! 🤣

Steven has some happy looking selfies with Fans. I haven't seen too many selfies with Slash and Izzy, and I've never seen any selfies with Melissa, Frank, Richard, Dizzy, Matt, Buckethead, Robin, etc.

I met Duff after a Loaded show and Steven before an Adler’s Appetite show and both were super friendly and cool.

I will say that was the greatest benefit of having Bumblefoot and Ashba in the band - say what you want about them, but they ALWAYS stopped to sign autographs and take pictures after shows.

After the Philly show in 2012, Bumblefoot and Ashba stopped to sign for everyone, Richard signed one or two things and bolted, same for Frank. I didn’t see Dizzy, Chris, or Tommy at all, and even Axl came out to sign for everyone afterwards.

If Duff and Slash are busy with their solo projects in 2024, perhaps Axl and/or TB can convince Buckethead and Robin Finck to step in in the meantime?

There’s no going back at this point. As much as I loved the new band, you can’t go from having Slash and Duff back in the band for seven years to asking the public to accept anyone else.

Axl’s not dumb. I’m sure that he realizes that Slash and Duff leaving would be the end of the band at this point.

And besides, I highly doubt that Slash and Duff’s solo projects are going to last the entire year. I’d be shocked if they weren’t wrapped up by the Summer in time for another GNR tour.

The GN'R Records label was only in the credits for the UYI reissue, but all releases are copyrighted by GN'R and sourced from "Guns N' Roses P&D" (unlike older releases where the sound recordings were copyrighted by Geffen/UMG).

Axl still owns Black Frog, but it doesn't seem that he uses it for business anymore.

“Perhaps” is listed as being released by “Guns N’ Roses under exclusive license to Geffen Records.” Correct.

With the push it’s getting to radio, Geffen seems to be handling the marketing for it as well.

It's great. I was afraid they'd stop playing one of them for Perhaps but I'm glad they're keeping the new songs even as newer ones get released, so far. However, I wonder why they don't space 'em out? Especially cuz y'know... many of the concert goers might not even know these songs and they'll have to sit through 1 song they never heard before, then Rocket Queen's huge solo, then 2 other songs they never heard before

The video for “Perhaps” already has over 2 million views on YouTube. It’s already top 20 on rock radio and getting a ton of airplay as well. It’s honesty probably already the most well known of the new songs.

Different scenarios though. They were in the process of building an album from scratch, whereas this was about adding 'new' parts to already finished songs as something to do during lockdown. Hardly worth comparing really

Brain never officially left the band, he just took an extended hiatus to be a dad. I think that’s the main difference. He still tours with the band from time to time, and he’s dating Melissa, so he’s very much still part of the inner circle.
