  1. Chinese: politics

    Shacklers: Axl explained

Better: some bird ( someone in the Sorry thread suggested it's about Slash. ffs: 'you stole my heart'. it's about a bird, Axl doesn't have a boner for Slash)

    Street of Dreams: some bird

    If The World: Black Bond

There Was A Time: some bird, probably Steph lol

    Catcher: Catcher/Salinger/Lennon as Axl explained

    Scraped: Axl's personal struggles etc

    Sorry: Slash/old band

Rhiad: old band/legal issues/lawyers (unlike Sorry the lyrics are quite open and general)

I.R.S: some bird and the legal mess she got Axl into

Madagascar: breakup of old band and resurrection of Axl's career (round 2, anyone?)

This I Love: some bird, probably Steph

    Prostitute: no-i-friggin-dea

Some lines seem to be a general reflection on him preferring to choose his own path than prostitute himself the way people in the business would want him to for the sake of money and fame which you could read as getting back with the old band maybe. Other lines seem directed towards a female (love you, affections etc) and the two ideas don't seem to go together. I've never been able to get into the song because the lyrics are annoyingly obtuse and seemingly bad in places.

Seems like forever and a day

    If my intentions are misunderstood

    Please be kind

    I've done all I should

    I won't ask of you

    What I would not do

Oh, I saw the damage in you

    My fortunate one

    The envy of youth

This sounds like he's talking to a bird about a relationship, it's certainly a specific individual.

    Why would they tell me

    To please those

    That laugh in my face

    When all of the reasons

    They've taught us

    Fall over themselves

    To give way

Is he still addressing the same person here? What has this got to do with anything he was saying before? What do the last four lines even mean; they make absolutely no sense. And incidentally, I absolute hate the multi-layered vocal effects on his voice in these sections. Compared to his beautiful singing in the verses it sounds like a robot and that coupled with the nonsensical lyrics makes it impossible to get into. It would be far more powerful to me if it was just his raw voice and the same goes for the 'If we ever find it's true...' lines in Madagascar. But then we have superior live versions of that and never will for Prostitute because he's given up trying to sing it.

    It's not a question of

    Whether my heart is true

    Streamlined

    I had to pull through

    Look for a new

    Beginning on you

Oh, I got a message for you

    Up and away

    It's what I gotta do

    Give what you have

    For what you might lose

It seems like he's back to addressing this bird about the end of their relationship and how he managed to get over it. But again, the last 4 lines are just absolutely crap lyrics. I'm sorry but they really just are crap. People have made fun of 'This I Love' for sounding like a musical which is fucking bullshit, it's just direct and utterly sincere. This is just vague and meandering.

    What would you say

If I told you that I'm to blame

    And what would you do

If I had to deny your name

Where would you go if I told you

I love you and then walked away

An' who should I turn to

    If not for the ones

    You could not save

This is a little more direct and technically makes sense however it means absolutely nothing to anyone except Axl without the context. Why would he have to deny this woman's name. Why would she need to go anywhere if he went back to her, said 'I love you' and walked off and why would he bother doing that anyway? Send her a text, save the effort. Again, last 3 lines, what the fuck. What the actual fuck.

I told you when I found you

    If there were doubts you

    Should be careful and unafraid

    Now they surround you

    And all that amounts to

Is love that you fed by

    Perversion and pain

What the driveling shit is he blabbing on about?! I fucking ADORE the album but this is just tosh lyrics. 'when i found you': it sounds like he's talking about an abandoned kitten. Doubts about what? Is it realistic to expect someone to be careful and unafraid at the same time? In what context would this be good advice? I've just met you, if you're having doubts about dating me, be careful and afraid! But now you're full of these doubts about which we know nothing and what that means is.......you answered my love for you by being a cunt to me?? I just don't understand.

    So if my affections

    Are misunderstood

    And you decide

    I'm up

    To no good

    Don't ask me to

    Enjoy them

    Just for you

Beautiful melody, beautifully sung first few lines, but what the fuck do the last lines mean?!! Don't ask me to enjoy my affections for you, just for you? THAT MAKES NO SENSE.

    Ask yourself

    Why I would choose

    To prostitute myself

To live with fortune and shame

    Oh yeah

    When you should

    Have turned to the hearts

    Of the ones

    That you would not save

What has Axl's desire to be a rock n' roll recluse got to do with this bird and his relationship with her? Who the fuck are the people she wouldn't save? Why should she have turned to them? Jesus, shit me.

    I told you

    When I found you

    All that amounts to

Is love that you fed by

    Perversion and pain

The line is "Love that you crippled for fortune and fame" not "love that you fed by perversion and pain" I used to think it was that as well.

  2. Axl is probably the most repetetive artist ever."the setlist"hasn't changed much since ""nu GNR'"was formed.

oh well, but come on,man, don't you feel me?

    we deserve better.

Uhm, you seriously saying that GN'R should choose a setlist based on a few fans on some Internet fora and not try to give the audiences a great time and real value for money by playing a 3 hour long best of set list with the highlights from AFD, Lies, UYI and CD? The setlist that is being used these days is great, people leave the venues satisfied with the songs that were chosen.

"...tell ya a little bit about this show... We're... There might be a delay between different songs... 'cuz... We just have this big fucking list, and we pick which song we're gonna play next, AS WE GO... To see how it feels best with you... That way, we don't get bored, 'n, and you don't go, 'I saw that show in... Toledo'... FUCK THAT SHIT... Also... We'll be playing a lot of new stuff, seeing as how you people have waited a really long time for the album to come out... and it'd be kind of a really pussyish thing to do, to just come up here and play Appetite For Destruction, it's kinda like jerkin' off..."

    - Axl Rose, 1991

    GREAT POST

Maybe Axl changed his mind and realized that if you find a setlist of songs that work well together with minor changes here and there, it keeps most crowds into it and is better than mixing it up every night and therefore having some concerts that aren't as good as others.

  3. The funny thing is that if just Slash alone were to rejoin GNR right now without any of the other old guys,I could pretty much guarantee you would get hardly a negative post.Same with the press,if Slash was back there wouldn't be a word about an original lineup reunion.Thats what it all boils down to around here with all the people who just can't seem to take it that them days are gone.I'm really glad this band is staying busy playing shows, and look forward to new music whenever it happens.

  4. Another really good video of that performance of DF.

Thanks! Replaced my original DF link with this one. :)

It's a shame that a topic like this that gives some love back to Axl & the band after half a year of touring, seems so uninteresting to most ´fans´on the forum. Oh well... :shrugs:

    Yeah I noticed.

  5. Don't know what he did last night, but his singing was amazing:

That's the best he's ever sounded on Estranged imo, and by a long shot. The raspy too raspy(not , not too clean) combined with the amazing vibrato gives the singing on the song another whole new level of awesomeness

that its true, its the best version of Estranged ( with this lineup) ,but he is faaaaaaaar awaaaay to even sing it right. As i said before 80% mickey mouse 20% rasp. Its better! in this tour we had 100% mickey mouse in all of the shows.Just check in this tour the part of "if feel the storm is getting closer" and you will know.

Now to me personally I would say in the old days it was way to heavy on the rasp, and rough. And as far as the music itself never sounded as good live as it does now.Not to beat down the old guys but the extra band members definetly adds to the overall sound.I would agree with Bruno Poeys description of this performance.

  6. Don't know what he did last night, but his singing was amazing:

Yeah I agree, this is an excellent performance of estranged. That little extra grit on the second half makes a difference, and to tell you the truth to me he sounds better here than on any old performance that I've seen vids of.Awesome.I'd love to hear this song live in concert.

  7. I think he's holding back. But yeah checking out some 2010 paradise city vids ,the power in the chorus and the verses is great.Like that Hellfest vid has rasp but man he sounded much more powerful in 2010.In my opinion he's doing what he has to in order to give great 3 hour concerts filled with the songs people love and came to hear without blowing out his voice, after all his signature sound has to be much more damaging to vocal chords then 99 percent of other vocalists out there, like it can't be easy to perform some of these vocals , and what would happen if he lost that sound altogether?I guess we woudn't have anything to criticize anymore.

  8. Watch the videos posted for the Romania concert I think they show he still has the voice that eveyone seems to like. SCOM sounds way better the way he sings it here.

  9. For NuGuns fans seems to me things are not so bad....They are o.k. with the repetitive setlists and the band puts on excellent shows...seems to me it was much bleaker 2002 until 2006 when Axl started touring again..... :shrugs:

Repetitive setlists.Just out playing the music that 99.9%of the people at the shows came to hear. Most bands do the same.

Did not say they were bad just repetitive and NuGuns fans accept this so what is your beef with my post exactly?

The Nuguns fans accept this part. What fans don't accept it?

Based on your post count you are ew here so I am guessing you have never read the large volume of posts on this forum bitching about the repetitive setlists here? this includes fans who have seen NuGuns recently who swear they will never attend another NuGuns show until Axl releases new music........Hardcore NuGuns fans accept this but not every fan on this forum is happy about it and this subject has been discussed to death...

Sounds good, so the thousands of people that attend GNR concerts are hardcore fans, and most of the other fans stay home waiting for new music to be released before they attend another concert. Now I understand thanks for clearing it up for me.

  12. Does any one else find it really funny a big deal is made of this even if its true, but the story about Slash shooting up, an killing his supposed best friend and then lying to cover it all up,which would just make him a real pc of shit is just ignored basically. If that story were about Axl he would be crucified,by the media and probably up on charges.

And Izzy was a heroin dealer. So he probably sold drugs to a lot of people who died, or who ruined their lives because of their addiction.

Axl physically abused at least two different women and is considered a real prick by most people.

So in the end, you have to make a choice.

Support and follow their careers, help make them millionaires, because you love the music that they create?

    Or,

Care about their personal lives and decide to not support their careers.

Axl is my favorite rock singer of all time. So I support his career. I'm only interested in the music he creates.

But I don't want to hang out with him, spending an hour with him wouldn't be the highlight of my life (or my day, for that matter) and I wouldn't want my sister to date him. But he is, imo, the best rock singer alive today.

yeah I agree completely,I was mostly referring to how sites like blabbermouth and NME,media etc. pick up on any story or rumour regarding axl that are negative and go with it true or not. Negative Slash stories just don't seem to ever be reported, that's all.

    Wait what?

that jetboy story someone posted here.

  15. These UK shows seem to be starting between 10:30 11:00, and finish around 2. Is that really all that late? Like most people I know that go out for a good time , especially on the weekend that would be nothing out of the ordinary ,say if you were at a club or a party.I saw them in Halifax in 2010 and they went on at appx the same time. There may have been 45mins between Bach and GNR,no big deal. I just find its really blown out of proportion, its like people are left out in the cold for days.

  16. That's possibly the best Civil War I've heard from this line-up. Axl sounds great on it and Richard absolutely tears it up on his solo.

The Jungle video is awesome too. When Axl comes back in after Ron's solo...it's just simply awesome. His scream is great.

Looks like the 2010 voice may have met its match. :)

Yeah,I completely agree. These performances are really good.Axl seems to be really nailing SOD lately.
