I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I would actually be IN FAVOR of a best of post 1995 rerecored album. 2 or 3 Slash song, 2 or 3 VR songs, 2 or 3 CD songs, and 2 or 3 "new" songs. By "new" songs that could mean CD leftovers or completely NEW material, or both.

I think it would be a good way to incorporate the "lost period" into the current gnr world. Also it would be a super easy album to do, mostly like playing covers at this point. I have always felt that Slash would make the CD songs better, and from what he has done on THIS tour, I feel i was right. I also felt that Slash's entire post guns discography could be made better with Mr. ROSE on vocals (yes Myles and Scott were good, but come on now...) So why not just take the best of all of it, through in some actual NEW songs as well, and I feel it would make a pretty strong album. Sure a completely new album from the ground up would be great as well, but I would take this idea as a way to get a new album, keep touring, etc until (if) a true new album ever surfaces. Guns has ALWAYS been a band that puts out a "lesser" release as a way to tide the fans over until a proper album happens. Lies was a stop gap until the Illusions were done. TSI was meant as a stop gap until the next album as well (of course the next album never came). So this best of album idea does make sense, at least to me. Not to mention I get excited about the songs that could appear on THIS album.

    Slither

    Fall to Pieces

    Sorry

    This I Love

    TWAT

    Better

    Ain't Life Grand

    Beggars and Hangers on

Just to name a few, if buy this album for sure, and LOVE IT!!!

I can't believe that you find this idea exciting in any way. :D

That would be so, so überlame!

  2. I have to agree, seems like Slash is not 100% comfortable with Frank and/ or Fortus.

In general, he certainly is a lot better now in terms of technique but to my ears he lost a bit of balance between pure, raw emotion and technical playing.

To me, his most inspired and interesting playing can be heard on the Illusion Albums and the Illusion tour.

  3. Playing wise, nobody makes the drums sound as cool and flowing as Steven Adler.

Matt is a very different kind of drummer, his work on the Illusions is good.

His style fits great with some songs (Ycbm, Locomotive, Double talking jive, etc.), for the more Appetite style tracks as in looser rock n roll tracks, Stevie would be so much better.

For the NITL tour I wish Steven Adler was the only drummer.

  4. Just read an Interview with Stevie Nicks, she got asked about doing a new Fleetwood Mac record. Here's her answer:

"I don't think we'll do another record. If the music business were different, I might feel different. I don't think there's any reason to spend a year and an amazing amount of money on a record that, even if it has great things, isn't going to sell. What we do is go on the road, do a ton of shows and make lots of money. We have a lot of fun. Making a record isn't all that much fun."

Combine that with super high expectations and Axl being Axl and Izzy being pissed...I guess it's safe to say we're all fucked. :D
    Sad but probably true.

I think the leftover Chinese Democracy material should be released as part of a multi-disc box set covering that era including the album. Axl should just clear the vault and start from scratch with Slash and Duff on any new material. He wouldn't have to worry about chart placements and sales with a box set either and it would be a neat way of packaging that era.

Good point about the box set/ chart placement worries.
Since this makes so much sense, not gonna happen! :D

  6. I think it would be almost cruel not to release something new...but it could very much be the case anyway.

I really hate the fact that the whole reunion thing got such a bad taste because of everything regarding Izzy and Steven. That alone makes me lose a lot of interest in a new album.

If they do it anyway there shouldn't be CD leftovers, write something new with the current band. Using already recorded vocals from ages ago would be super lame. The artistic value of something like that would be zero and therefor an insult to the gnr name. Imo.
