  1. I don't know if the internet can be blamed entirely.   If anything, there might be lessons to be gained from how Guns N" Roses handled the print press and the endless articles about the band - in today's internet environment.

I wasn't that old back then.  Based on rants / Get In the Ring - GNR were tabloid fodder, right?  They managed the relationship as well as can be.  Thirty years removed, does anyone really remember the grocery store trash magazines?

    Are you for real?!
This is being repeated on here on a daily basis. You think someone forgets?

Seriously, what is it with you people and constantly repeating the same thing and what everyone already knows? Genuine question.

Wow.  I can't believe so much time has passed.  That's crazy.

It's kind of surprising they didn't release another Greatest Hits in 2016. It could've sold really well if they'd capitalized on the reunion hype, especially if they added a couple new songs. Basically just replace the last 4-5 songs on the first GH with Nightrain, Better, Hardschool (or whatever CD leftover they would've done before the Village leaks) and a studio version of The Seeker or something...

That would have been perfect.  Can you imagine - a double album of a re-worked Chinese Democracy, Velvet Revolver and maybe some new old demos (Absurd, Hard Skool)?

I'd call it - Since You've Been Gone.

  4. There seems to be a missing part of the story.  I believe the

Jump in the Crowd and screw you guys I'm going home > riot is the edit for TV entertainment.

I believe several minutes passed between the band leaving the stage and the start of the riot.  I'm quite certain around 2010 video footage was posted online that showed the band was getting ready to return to the stage before things got very serious after the crowd started throwing arm rests from the arena seats.

While the band's behavior was less than professional - I don't believe Axl leaving the stage directly caused the riot.  I would point towards the behavior of the police in not properly addressing the crowd and at times antagonizing (throwing items back) that created an us for them mentality and the riot.  Also, let's not forget - the venue was brand new and the staff likely weren't prepared for a crowd that size.  Maybe it was the VH1 Behind the Music that mentioned the concerts that came before had been tense and a powderkeg between security and the crowd.

  5. Overall great box set.  I've listened to / watched the Ritz concert and really enjoyed that.  It's crazy to think they were sitting on this for 30 years and hadn't previously released this on CD or DVD.

I ordered through Amazon and paid $200.  At that price, it seems well worth the price.  They included a lot of cool pictures, artwork and memorabilia that really tells a story.  While a gimmick, I especially enjoy red and blue filters you can view the artwork.

The only drawback to the set (and this isn't the only box set guilty of this) is that as much as I'd like to read the articles and admire the artwork - it is a hassle to put everything back in place.  It seems impossible to avoid damaging the artwork taking it in and out of the plastic filter.

Just a PSA as I’ve seen a few people bitching about the Japanese bonus tracks - one post even said “shame on GN’R for doing that”. Bonus tracks on Japanese releases are absolute standard practice for almost all major artists/releases in Japan. It’s hard for the Japanese record industry to get locals to buy Japanese-produced products as the imports are in many cases still cheaper. The idea of Japanese bonus tracks were thought up some years ago to serve as a reason for locals to buy the local products. We’re lucky it was only tracks that are available elsewhere, whether or not they’ve been remixed. Many times a Japanese bonus track will be something that is completely exclusive to that release. As much as we love to shit on GN’R sometimes (And as much as they sometimes do deserve our criticism), this one can’t be pinned in the band one bit.

    Thank you for the PSA.

Any word on the quality of the recording?

So is it safe to say that at this point, Sorta-Kinda-Somewhat-Live Era is obsolete? What's the point of it even existing now? I bought it back in 1999 when it came out, so it stays in the collection, but I can't imagine a time in the future where I play it again. It just seems so pointless and silly.

    I'd view

Live Era as the best show that never existed - making the best version of each with the elements available.  It might have a Las Vegas 92 base but it's not a historical reflection of the performance that night.

i wonder how the quality is. Tokyo DVD quality is dull compared to Vegas

Gosh darnit.  In addition to the large sum I'm spending on the US version, to spend the same amount again for 8 new tracks...

    Darn - that's tough.

I do wonder if they decided not to include all the demos/rehearsals officially because there is so much available online that many fans already have in pretty much great quality.

I don't know where I read this but I've heard there are demo versions with Izzy for some of the covers that ended up on TSI and that there were plans for UYI to include an album of covers.  If they treat TSI as an "outtake" album, they can include all of the UYI demos on that box set in one or two years.

I'm hoping.  Maybe throw in a Skin and Bones show.

  10. It might be something or it might be nothing.  I am seeing numerous articles in my twitter feed and other places about the "mysterious song."  Very similar to the articles about Absurd when logic tells me it would be known as Silkworm if you didn't know any better.

Since the posts haven't been taken down - maybe sly marketing to gin up interest?

    Full YCBM performance dropping tomorrow

The footage looks really great - even better than the clips that were posted on youtube around 2010 from the person who filmed it.

I'm very curious how they'll edit the whole thing or it it will be sliced with video tape footage.  If the whole performance was captured with one or two cameras (?), I don't know how they'll make it dynamic like that throughout the duration of the show.
