TMZ recently caught up with Axl at a local comics shop. When TMZ asked Axl “when’s the new album coming out”? Axl seemed confused and replied “what album”?

If only Tommy Stinson were available for comment - we'd surely get to the bottom of this in no time

Not sure if you guys saw this, but Linkin Park just announced a reissue SDE box.  It’s got 3 vinyl albums, 5 CDs with some containing unreleased demos, b-sides, etc., 3 DVDs featuring a documentary, backstage footage, 2 entire live shows and another 90 minutes of unreleased live footage, a cassette tape, an 80 page book and some trinkets - $200.

I’m not a fan of Linkin Park but here’s another example of a band celebrating an important album in a way that I think is cool.  The only thing this set is missing is a 5.1 or Atmos mix.

I am hopeful that we’ll get something like this for UYI, but I suspect I’m setting myself up to be either let down with the content or forced to spend $500+ to get it.  Being a gnfnr fan really f’n sux.

That looks awesome.  I don't know.  I"m not a fan of forcing the purchase of an LP box set when I want everything in the deluxe *except* the LP.

I hope GNR strikes the middle group and releases a CD box set, and an LP box set as well.

  3. Yes, definitely.  I believe the album is scheduled to be released on 9 October 2020.

Oh, you mean Guns N' Roses and not Brothers Osborne.  I don't know.

    Playing Rock in Rio and dates in Vegas didn't indicate the album was ready;

    Playing the VMAs and doing the first North American tour in almost ten years didn't indicate the album was ready;

A highly successful North American tour, new manager working hard to release the album, and boat loads of positive energy didn't indicate the album was ready.

A Dr. Pepper online ad campaign did indicate the album was ready.  In that spirit, if a cure for the Rona' is distributed before the end of a year - GNR will release the album (sarcastic but maybe not).

  4. Using the 2016 concert I went to as a baseline (with modifications for songs later played),

It's So Easy (Salt Lake City 2019)
    Mr. Brownstone
Chinese Democracy (Salt Lake City 2019)
Welcome to the Jungle (I've seen a Youtube video from Download 2018, TV Feed it looks like)
Double Talkin' Jive (Salt Lake City 2019)
    Estranged
    Live and Let Die

    Slither (Download 2018)
    Rocket Queen (Download 2018)
    Raw Power
You Could Be Mine (Download 2018)

    Attitude (Download 2018)

    New Rose (Mexico 2016)

This I Love (Mexico City 2016)
    Civil War
    Coma (Houston 2016)
    Speak Softly Love
Sweet Child o' Mine (Download 2018)
    Better

    My Michelle (Mexico City 2016)

    Out Ta Get Me
    Wish You Were Here
    November Rain (Mexico City 2016)
    Knockin' on Heaven's Door
    Nightrain

    Patience
    The Seeker
    Paradise City

We're slowly getting a full setlist.  I like that we've got two Duff songs so far (pretty sure he only gets one per night)

  5. This is an interesting interview with the Spotify CEO. (https://www.nme.com/news/music/spotify-ceo-says-its-not-enough-for-artists-to-release-albums-every-3-4-years-2719272)

"“You can’t record music once every three to four years and think that’s going to be enough. The artists today that are making it realise that it’s about creating a continuous engagement with their fans. It is about putting the work in, about the storytelling around the album, and about keeping a continuous dialogue with your fans.”

Or a lost less frequently if you're Guns N' Roses.  As much as I can understand and appreciate the time and effort that bands like Tool and Guns N' Roses take to make albums - in an era of everyday streaming and "special edition CD" purchases for the die hards, I can see how that mindset might need to change.  The quote (and larger article) seems more and more accurate.  Or not, it's rock n' roll.

Hopefully it's not just a new album, but "continuous engagement."  Might as well retool the tracks available, add some new ones, drag it out with archive video/audio releases (see Rolling Stones or Metallica) - rinse and repeat for as long as they want to be considered an "active" band.

For my money, the release of Taylor Swift's "folklore" is as successful launch and marketing as can be done in the modern era.

I'ts not too bad.  3,200 AUS, that' what, 20 USD?

I joke,  Good for the seller.  I'd sell all of my music concert posters I've carefully cultivated and had framed if someone's willing to spend 3K for them.

Irrelevant. It's a different situation now.

Why? They still can cancel again, should the situation not improve.

But the shows haven't been cancelled.  The shows have been postponed.  I think the below link better expresses my thoughts.

    https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/9338173/tool-cancel-2020-tour

I had tickets to a several concerts that were supposed to happen this summer.  I'm very appreciate of the artists that have cancelled, allowing me to receive a refund for my ticket, vice those that have merely postponed.

  8. I'm very happy with the seat I got and it's entirely possible I wouldn't be able to buy as good of a ticket if the show gets cancelled.  It's also possible that the entertainment industry will be depressed even after the mythical COVID-19 is beat.

I think it's irresponsible to even assume concerts and large gatherings will be feasible even in 2021.  I would cancel the tour dates outright (where possible), and try again once things return to normal (earliest date is after November 2020)

  9. Very excellent addition to the NITL video series.  The song selection was great.  I listened to this on a house rattling sound system and it didn't disappoint.  I like the camera work a lot.  It had great close-up of the action but didn't let you forget how large the crowd was.  It felt cinematic and made the performance that much cooler.

Really solid versions of Slither (really pleased to hear this), Rocket Queen, You Could Be Mine, Attitude, Sweet Child O' Mine.

Including the first video, we've heard

+ It's So Easy, Chinese Democracy, Double Talkin' Jive, Slither, Rocket Queen, You Could Be Mine, Attitude, Sweet Child O' Mine

  10. Does anyone else find the leaks too convenient and too much of a coincidence to not seem intentional?

+ If I recall correctly, there was not a single song leaked that was not later played on the 2006 tour cycle (2006 leaks).

+ The various demos with band members not included in the official release is cool but what is anyone going to do with it?

+ The Brain remixes might be the best thing leaked.  I wouldn't think it would be possible to make the Chinese Democracy songs "cool" but those remixes nailed it.  What is lost by having those out there?  It's a remix?  Anybody can remix a song, right?

+ Even the 2018(?) leak of the massive collection of Chinese Democracy demos and other music (15 CDs worth).  No matter how you slice it, I'm not convinced that pre-reunion tracks and recordings have as much value now that Slash and Duff are back and working on new material.  Even the unreleased complete songs (Atlas Shrugged, Going Down, Hard School, I probably forgot some) would likely be re-recorded before they would release them, if at all.

I know leaks are a very sensitive topic, especially for the management of the band.  I don't know of any other band that has more leaked and in greater variety that what ends up being officially released.  So weird.

I guess the chapter hasn't been added yet. @SoulMonster works on the chapters in a hidden area of the site and, when he finishes, he adds them to the "public" area. As you probably have seen, the last "public" chapter is about the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, so the chapters about what happened next (e.g. the release of the Tokyo VHS in December) haven't been added yet.

Ah, ok.  That makes sense.  Thank you.

  12. Thank you for sharing.  That was really entertaining.  Really great.

If I have a very slight criticism is that its not clear to be how to get to the different chapters.

I'm specifically referencing the section of the Tokyo Dome show released on view.  "

The film of the February 22 show was released on two home videos (VHS/DVD), called "Use Your Illusion World Tour - 1992 in Tokyo I" and "Use Your Illusion World Tour - 1992 in Tokyo II", on December 8, 1992 [see separate chapter for more on this]."

I couldn't find the separate chapter.  How would I find that?

Metallica must be seriously disrespecting world events as they have uploaded 4 full length concerts in the last month

I'd be willing to judge GNR on a curve.  Metallica has been offering live performance clips and video since 2003 (maybe longer).   I wouldn't judge GNR on Metallica standards, but rather on the good faith effort scale.

In the Metallica world, practically every single concert since 2004 is available for purchase or stream, while also slowly adding older concerts from their vault.  Metallica is doing everything that I wish GNR were doing.  There are a ton of examples of what I believe are successful models to extract money from fans, and take advantage of available tapes (video and audio).  And multiple artists have also made statements to reflect what they want to say during these difficult times, and continued weekly webcasts.

I don't perceive that there's been an effort, even after the demand for North Korean style praise for the NITL video.

  14. That's a really good interview, thank you for sharing.

I don't fully understand where Reese fit with the band - as I don't distinctively hear the contribution.  If what's she's doing is making all the other parts sound better live - that's awesome.

Good for her to be a member of the band.  I've heard of many new members for many bands that weren't treated much better than just a hired gun (pun intended)

  15. There are some really great ideas,

Here's a bit more detailed version of my earlier post. I'd pay a few hundred bucks for this:

      Reveal hidden contents

Disc 1: UYI 1 remastered (CD + LP)

Disc 2: UYI 2 remastered (CD + LP)

Disc 3: TSI? remastered, with bonus tracks (CD + LP)

Disc 4: Rough Mixes + Instrumentals (CD)

Disc 5: Axl's Advance Copy, remastered (CD)

    Disc 6: Inglewood August 3 1991 (multiple CD's)

    Disc 7: Pantages Theatre 1991 blu-ray

    Disc 8: Paris 1992 blu-ray

    Disc 9: Las Vegas 1992 blu-ray

Disc 10: Skin N' Bones show on blu-ray

Disc 11: One of the above shows on vinyl (Probably 3 LP's)

    Disc 12: Rarities CD
    1. Coma (Chicago 1992)
    2. Breakdown (MSG, December 13 1991)
    3. Locomotive (MSG, December 13 1991)
    4. Bad Apples (Pantages or Rio 1991)
    5. You're Crazy (w/ Sebastian Bach Toronto 1991)
    6. You Ain't The First (w/ Shannon Hoon Inglewood 1991)
    7. Don't Cry (Alt lyrics Prague 1992)
    8. Mama Kin (w/ Steven Tyler and Joe Perry Paris 1992)
    9. Train Kept A Rollin' (w/ Steven Tyler and Joe Perry 1992)
    10. Tie Your Mother Down (w/ Brian May Wembley June 13 1992)
    11. We Will Rock You (w/ Brian May Wembley June 13 1992)
    10. Out Ta Get Me (New Orleans 1992)
    11.  Everything (I forget which '92 show this was played at)
    12. Garden Of Eden (Austin, Birmingham or Portland 1993)
    13. Reckless Life (Boston 1993)
    14. Honky Tonk Women (w/ Ronnie Wood Milton Keynes 1993)
    15. Dead Flowers (Paris 1993)
+ probably some others that I'm forgetting right now

Disc 13: Any "home demos", rehearsals with Steven, or other early demos (CD)

    Disc 14: Tokyo DVDs

Disc 15: Makin' Fuckin' Videos (DVD)

Disc 16: Ain't Goin' Down 7" single (remastered, b-side can be Nightcrawler or an unheard TSI? outtake)

Disc 17: Yesterdays 12" picture disc (remastered)

Disc 18: Don't Cry 12" single (remastered, hologram cover)

Disc 19: Live And Let Die 12" single (remastered, coloured vinyl)

Disc 20: November Rain 12" picture disc (remastered)

Disc 21: Since I Don't Have You 7" (remastered, coloured vinyl)

Disc 22: Sympathy For The Devil 7" (remastered)

*If they can release a YCBM 12" reissue, then add that too, but I don't know how the Terminator trademarks would play into that.

USB stick with HQ audio of all the above. No trinkets, no extravagant packaging, just take my $300.

That is a really impressive wish list.  I'd wager a bet all of that would be closer to $3,000 than $300 if released as is (based on AFD pricing).

But all of that would be really sweet.

  16. + CD of remastered UYI 1 & 2

    + Blu Ray Audio of UYI 1 & 2

+ An album with B-sides, demos that bridges the gap between the AFD and UYI eras, and available demos of covers that were later included in The Spaghetti Incident.

+ As much as I'd like some live recordings included, the price point for just the above (which roughly matches what AFD had) - would make it a fairly expensive box set.  If they really are serious about releasing old material, I'd prefer a live series of releases that can mix up eras so it doesn't seem like you're listening to a lot of the same.

While GNR have largely played a lot of the same songs since 1987, I'd say there's enough variety just within the UYI tour cycle to make it interesting to release multiple shows.

All of this is wishful thinking.

The idea that they would just leave a completed album sitting there until late 2021/early 2022, because they are unable to tour, when Axl has never cared about promotion or doing things the normal way before, would be the biggest fuck you to the GNR fanbase in history. And we've received a lot of fuck you's.

I have from very unreliable sources that GNR will be partnering with a very prominent and esteemed American food chain to exclusively release the album domestically.

Yes, you heard it here first.  GNR will be domestically releasing their next album at Cracker Barrel restaurants throughout all 48 states!

Unfortunately, as dining room areas are mostly closed, the big promotional push is waiting for things to return to normal.  In the mean-time the geniuses in the Cracker Barrel kitchen are cooking up some great cross promotional items to encourage additional sales AND are soliciting feedback for ideas!!!

"Guns N' Grits - the winning breakfast combination"

    "Appetite for Waffles"

I would love to see a South Park episode revolving the CD vault. Hahaha

As high profile as Guns N' Roses are and having priceless material found in a storage unit somewhere - I don't believe it's uncommon.

Off the top of my head, the Hank Williams radio program I believe was found by accident, the Who had priceless video recording nearly end up in the trash, the crown jewel of Grateful Dead live records was auctioned off in a storage unit foreclosure - not to mention the Universal Fire that might have destroy priceless recordings.

I'd honestly prefer they release nothing, than release their set from Download 2018. Axl sounded terrible in 2018... and 2017 and 2019 weren't much better.

Just give us It's So Easy from the Troubadour and maybe a couple songs from the NA 2016 shows ffs.

That's a really good idea.  Release a best of each song performed from each of the 2016 stops to eventually make up a full concert plus.  Good stuff.

But realistically, I've never heard anyone say anything good about Axl's vocals outside of variations of almost as good as before, or it wasn't as bad as it was later.

I don't know.  I like to think of any live recording as a historical document of a specific show or period in time.  I certainly wouldn't pick the "worst" performance, but I also wouldn't shy away from the truth.  But, if like photoshop work is acceptable so is a good sound mix.

I thought Apollo Theater 17 and Inglewood sounded incredible.  I listen to those shows all the time.  I'd listen to most anything from any period because I haven't found a period I couldn't appreciate at least an aspect of it.
