Didn't they just release an album like a year ago?

They put out a covers album in 2016. The last studio album of original material was in 2005.

The new song has a nice hook but the chorus doesn’t really do it for me, and Mick’s voice sounds AI’d or something. Glad people like it, though.

If there’s really only two tracks left “in the can” after The General, one will almost certainly be Atlas. The big question is what will that 6th track be. You’d hope they picked it based on whether Slash and Duff could/have elevated it with their sound(s). I’m hoping it’s Oklahoma/Berlin, but certainly wouldn’t be disappointed if it’s Soul Monster.

I think it’s Soul Monster. I know Axl supposedly wrote lyrics to Berlin, but I don’t think he ever got around to recording them. Same with Seven, Zodiac, etc.

Soul Monster is the only other remaining one that he specifically said he RECORDED vocals for (not counting sketches like State of Grace or supposedly “weird” songs like Cuban Skies).

A few months ago, Slash mentioned that they'd release a handful of material that Axl had leftover and then work on new stuff. Richard has now confirmed the same.

I'm guessing the handful of songs is Hardskool, Absurd, Perhaps, General and maybe Atlas/State of Grace at some point.

I think it is now safe to say that all the other mentioned song titles are shelved for whatever reasons?

I personally am quite glad.  A band will always write better songs when they write as a band. Hopefully they do that now or at least spend more time on projects where they can do that.

    When did Richard say that?

My guess is they're saving all that for a Spaghetti Incident reissue.

Back on topic, i doubt the CD era is 100% over. Even if theh recorded a new record I'd bet my bottom dollar something like Atlas would pop up on it.

Could that be why it’s not out yet? Maybe Axl feels like that song “belongs” on an album for some reason.

To me, Hard Skool & Perhaps are far superior in their final cuts, to the demos.

IRS & TWAT are two others that I believe the album versions are superior to the demos.

I agree with everything except IRS. I like the final version, but there are things from the 1999 and 2003 versions that I think got lost in the process… Oh also the drums on the HardSkool demo are still better. But yeah I at least agree about TWAT and Perhaps. That said, part of me still kinda wishes the album woulda just come out in 2001. Then we coulda gotten the follow-up in 2008, maybe. Oh well.

If TLJ derailed JJ’s story, maybe they should have just had him do the entire trilogy instead of choosing three different people (before firing Trevorrow and rehiring JJ).

I hated TLJ when it came out, but after TROS, I realized TLJ wasn’t that bad. 🤣

Tbf, each installment of the original trilogy was also directed by a different person, but I suppose Lucas (and to a lesser extent, Larry Kasdan) was still the “mastermind” behind it all. The only connective tissue the three new movies had was Kathy Kennedy, and while I don’t hate her as much as most people do, she’s not a director or writer. She’s just a producer. That only goes so far.
