  1. On topic, I remember listening to the Beaven demos from 1999 and saying to myself that had Buckethead and Brain just added parts to those cuts and then they mix those takes and release it as the record around 2000 or whatever it would've been fine. Still not great, but fine. Having Roy Thomas Baker re-record everything was so not necessary.

The ideal thing to do really would've been to either let go of the Guns N' Roses name so that people's expectations wouldn't of been so high or keep Mike Clink so that the songs would've sounded closer to old Guns. If not that, then at least promote and focus mainly on the songs that sound the most like the old material to create a sense of familiarity.

For me, Better and IRS are the best songs on the record cause they sound closest to old GNR. So I think those tracks should've been the lead singles and not Chinese Democracy and Shackler's Revenge. But in the end of the day it's just a record, a decent one as a matter of fact, so it doesn't matter. I'm just throwing out my opinion. Not dissing the band or anything like that.

  2. Revenge Of the Sith was the best of three (for me at least) simply because it tried it's best to ignore the other two (very little Jar Jar, e.t.c). With that being said, there were still some things it couldn't erase (Hayden Christensen, e.t.c) so it was still overall a bad movie.

But it was a complete clusterfuck of poorly paced, unaesthetically pleasing action scenes. The first act (space battle-Palpatine rescue) is the worst in all of Star Wars.

Some of it was, yes. Basically, like with the The Phantom Menace, the overall synopsis sounds promising, George simply didn't execute his ideas properly. George can probably write a really good two-paragraph summary or something, but he has issues with writing a full script with fleshed out dialogue and ideas and his editing skills are awful (nothing but an overuse of CGI and shot-reverse-shot). So I'm really glad now for the new movies he's getting other people to do that stuff for him, not to mention people who have reputations of being really good at what they do (Michael Ardnt, Lawrence Kasdan, Simon Kinberg, JJ Abrams).

  3. The Phantom Menace almost had a good and unique synopsis (underwater settings, civil unbalance, pod racing) but such ideas were executed poorly thanks to other factors of the movie (little kid, political flaws, Jar Jar).

Attack Of the Clones was just plain shit.

More on topic, Axl Rose is basically the George Lucas of rock. They were both young rebellious artists who defined their own genres and earned the respect of virtually everyone until the egos drove them into being recluses and when they returned they were physically unbalanced and because of their past legacies, they were able to turn everyone around them into yes-men so that they could get away with whatever.

Axl's advantage is that Chinese Democracy was still somewhat decent (though it should not be labeled as a Guns N' Roses record) while the Star Wars prequels are total shit. George's advantage is that he eventually realized he fucked up and is now trying to make up for his mistakes by hiring new, and much more professional people, to make new movies that will hopefully restore the Star Wars reputation, while Axl has yet to do something like this.

  4. I've never met a soul that got pulled into the GnR world by listening to Chinese Democracy. They all discovered Gnr by listening to the old songs first.

That's simply cos you don't get to meet other souls if you ass never leaves the chair and the comfort of your mother´s basement.

actually i've moved around quite a bit and right now where i live i walk around my building and meet new people and when we talk about bands i bring up GnR and then specifically mention NewGNR and I always get the same response:

"Axl Rose can suck a dick."

Just saying. In their minds GnR ended when Slash and all the other old guys walked out. Most people that have listened to ChiDem that I know say its boring. Maybe I guess there are other people beyond this forum that like the record just as much as I do, but I have yet to meet such people

  5. I've never met a soul that got pulled into the GnR world by listening to Chinese Democracy. They all discovered Gnr by listening to the old songs first.

Fair enough. But do you think that those people do indeed exist? Perhaps some Buckethead afficianados own Chinese Democracy and were never extensively exposed to pre-2001 Guns?

I wish but i feel like even fans of Buckethead, Buttfuck, NIN, Tool, Replacements, LSL, Thin Lizzy, 6AM, Prodigy, Praxis, Primus and so on heard of old Gnr music first before finding this stuff. Old Gnr was just way too popular.

  6. People have songs, they just don't give enough of a shit to leak them.

-Brian May admitted he has tapes of the songs he worked on, including "Atlas Shrugged," but he said "I'm gonna keep those tapes private out of respect for Axl."

-Brain admitted once that he gave a music consultant from Sony two CDs of 30 songs to get him to transcribe Josh Freese's drumming. So that guy still has those 30 demos.

-Marco Beltrami said he worked on songs with titles like "Seven," "Atlas Shrugged," "Thyme" and "The General." So he probably has demos of those.

-Let's not forget about Roy Thomas Baker, Sean Beavan, Caram Costanzo, Andy Wallace, Pete Scaturro and whoever fucking else was producer or engineer or mixer over the years.

So people have songs. They're just not OUR people. They're not people that give enough of a shit to sink so low that they'd go on a fan forum and leak shit.

  7. Can regular DVD players play Blu Ray? Can a pc play it? I hope so because I don't have a Blu Ray player... :nervous:

If this release is done properly i think you should be able to download the film on iTunes or stream on Netflix, but I'm not sure if they'll go that route. Would be nice, though

  8. Maybe the Vegas blu ray/live cd will be the last album with this label.

    Free at last!

Is a CD also being planned? Does Axl only owe the label one more album? I'm not trying to attack you, I'm just asking if a live CD is also confirmed cause I never heard anything about that. It'd be interesting though if it really is the key to ending his label partnership so that the next studio record can be independent.

  9. If I remember correctly a concert film is supposed to be released this year in theaters followed by a Blu-Ray release. I can't remember if it's the O2 show or one of those Vegas shows. Either way, I was thinking, since a Blu-Ray disc can hold up to hours of bonus material, can we expect the band to use this as an opportunity to release some cool bonus shit?

The ideal thing to do would be to include a separate CD with unheard songs, but if legal issues prevent that, some music videos like the videos for Better, Catcher In the Rye and This I Love that I saw floating on the Internet a while ago would be cool, since those aren't even on the band's website for some reason.

If not unheard songs or videos than the least the band could do is include some alternate versions of previous songs, like those ChiDem remixes Brain talked about a while back.

The point is, the new band has never done a Blu-Ray release before and it doesn't look like the label wants a new album, so I think they should use this rare chance to get some good stuff out there. It might even help the Blu-Ray sell. Us hardcore fans can get that rare stuff we've been wanting all these years, common fans get a concert film with a setlist of hits and the band finally gets to release some shit theyve had stuck in their vaults for so many years without getting fucked up the ass by the record label. Everybody wins.

    What do you think?
