  1. I think Axl on that first album would have been great, most of the songs are mentioned already (no mention of Back And Forth Again or What Do You Want To Be? :o ). But I'm hesitant to say I'd like Axl on Ain't Life Grand. Rod just fits perfectly for the tonal darkness of the music on that record.

  2. Ipcress_File_British_quad_poster.jpg

Literally came into this thread to post that. Great film. I haven't seen the other two in the Harry Palmer trilogy, know if they're any good?

EDIT: Also, The Lives of Others. Not literally espionage, but spying nonetheless.

  3. I think there are a lot more factors of that though that are more general to alcohol than just Nightrain. You said you drank the whole thing within a two hour period. If you drank anything within a two hour period of the amount that you had the Nightrain you're going to feel pretty sick. And then combine that with Nightrain particularly being a cheap wine to begin with then you're not going to have a pleasant day afterwards. Not saying that Nightrain won't give you a terrible hangover, but I'd say you need to try the experiment with other stuff to comparable levels to actually single that one out. If you were to have a full bottle of regular wine in a two hour period you'll most likely feel more sick later on after the initial drunkness. Just saying that I had the entire bottle over the span of a night (probably 4-5 hours) once and I don't think I felt much drunker than I've been on other wines and general alcohol and also didn't feel that sick, at least not to the level you were at. I probably felt it a bit at 3 or 4 am, but thats true of most alcohol and once I woke up the next morning I was back to normal. I'd venture to say that GNR probably wasn't drinking the whole thing in two hours back then, and if they were a guess their bodies were too fucked up by the time for it to have the same effects as it would on you and me.

Well two things: I notoriously get bad hang overs no matter how much water I drink. And, I can drink a pint of scotch in same time period and be completely fine the next day. Roughly half the amount of liquid, but double the alcohol %. So... yeah Nightrain was worse. No doubt that the alcohol in it is partially causing it, but I think there are some other unknown (the company that makes it has not released the formula for obvious reasons) ingredients that caused my hangover to be worse than usual.

  4. I have no problem with Axl's vocals. I did have a problem with the 2nd half of that Solo.

Agreed. Axl's voice sounds fine, it was probably better in the late 80's/UYI/even 2006 but not terrible here, but Robin just doesn't channel that feeling Slash has. And don't even get me started on his guitar tone...

  5. Thank you. Obviously its a cool GNR memorabilia, but the taste has been blown so out of proportion. Its a total myth how bad it is.

The taste is not terrible, not good, but its not terrible. I will say though, it gave me probably the worst hangover I've ever had. Lasted well into the next day and night, didn't feel better until around 1AM, over a full 24 hours after drinking the bottle.

  6. i love it. great guitar work, i think the riffing in the chorus sounds really uyi slash ish and all the lead guitar is really great. excellent song, really hope to hear a polished non demo version

Agree with essentially everything you said. Song doesn't sound mastered, would like a fully done version. The chorus riffing is to me, the most GNR thing that GNR has put out since the UYI albums.

  7. I like it a lot. As some have said, I agree that it's better than most stuff on CD. The solo is mixed way too high in the beginning, I don't mind it other than that though. The chorus has a very old school GNR sound in my opinion. Curious as to when it was recorded. Also I've heard people say Bucket does the solo, but here its being said its BBF? Any definitive word on this?

  8. I recall Slash or someone close to the Snakepit camp saying that one of the main problems with that Snakepit line up was Rod Jackson's drug problem (the singer). I don't remember the source, but it should be out there somewhere. Shame though, I thought that album was the best thing since AFD, and maybe the best thing since.

  9. 2 Years - Nothing, maybe a few shows
    5 Years - Possible album/tour

    10 Years - Nothing

    15 Years - Nothing

50 years - GNR is remembered as one of the best fucking rock n' roll bands to have graced the planet, with the likes of Zepp, Purple, Hendrix etc. And when talking about GNR, people will barely be able to recall that blip called Chinese Democracy. (not trying to incite arguing here, this is how I've always imagined it, might be a bit too hopeful).

  10. Didn't know it was that tough to get it in the UK. Its not easy to get it in the US, but its certainly possible. I've had it before. In fact I have 3 bottles sitting right next to my desk here. Had a full bottle in about a 2 hour period one time. It's strong stuff... I'll leave it at that.

  11. I don't like much of Slash's music since he left GnR.

CD is my favorite rock album of the last decade.

That is interesting, you have defended Slash on a number of posts, I assumed you liked his post-GNR stuff. I think Snakepit, VR, and solo are easily better than CD, but to each his own.

Anyway, to those of you saying Slash "wasted time" with this project, he didn't do it as a business venture. He did it because he enjoys horror movies, and he likely had fun producing it. That was the point; not to make a blockbuster movie so whatever studio hired him could rake in cash. Same thing as Sammy Hagar owning that bar in Cabo, he isn't getting his primary income from that restaurant, he's having fun with it.

  12. This Izzy backing track confused the Hell out of me; I found it before I found that Duff McKagan one...

    I mean...

Yeah this is weird. The Slash lead licks and solo are in here instead of Izzy's parts behind them. No idea why that is, but those lead licks/tone are unmistakably Slash. Weird backing track... and they're still panned left for the most part. Izzy's track by itself is definitely out there somewhere.

  13. I'll definitely see it. Though if they were going to do an F1 movie I'd prefer it to about Ayrton Senna, as a tribute to him. Hunt just ran around being crazy and doing drugs. I have a feeling the movie will portray him in a slightly more positive manner than he deserves (no offense). And he was a good driver, but only won 1 world championship... plenty of others have had more success in the sport but haven't had movies made about them.
