  1. I can't bring myself to hate Phil or his band.

No, they aren't a stadium filler or deserve to be...but I take no delight in his ugly behaviour and exit from ACDC.

Lord knows I've done some really dumb shit in my time, I'll give Phil a pass.

No matter what, he's still a bona fide legend of rock in my book, false teeth and all.

And the mental side also comes out in his playing. On those later Peppers albums, he wasn't just making riffs, he was taking the music to a certain place. Putting feelings into it. Digging deep on his guitar.

His work on Stadium Arcadium is inspired.

  5. Probably an Izzy album, or Chinese Democracy.

And I don't think all that much of Izzy's albums, which is a pretty good indication of what I think about the other guy's solo efforts.

Slash has done a few songs I really liked (most of which are on the self titled album) , but most I don't rate at all.

Duff? Embarrassingly bad, he's great in Guns but oh my god his solo stuff/Loaded is fucking dire.

    Adler? Nah man.

  6. Don't get me wrong, Slade is fucking awesome too but I could never say I prefer him over Rudd in ACDC.

It's great he's got another go and it's the one sunny bit of news in the recent list of ACDC tragedies, but Phil is the man for ACDC.

I was getting into Sabbath around that time too, really into bands that were sort of on the periphery like Helmet,Kyuss and stuff and remember Chaos AD by Sepultura and Vulger by Pantera were on heavy rotation...i got into AIC later down the line out of the grunge scene and love them, though really they are just a hard rock/metal band at the end of the day. Was discovering gritty east coast Hip hop too around that time, 93-97 so much great hip hop being released.

Good times. Ditto on the Pantera/Sepultura, chuck in some Primus and Bungle.

One band or trend doesn't wipe out the last band. I didn't throw my GNR in the bin because I like FNM or Nirvana too. But the media discourse did change, but that didn't effect my box of tapes. I also got old stuff like Stones and Zepp who weren't doing as many interviews. But I could read old interviews and books. I got into The Doors through the movie.

    So true.

When Nirvana, Pearl Jam etc were blowing up I was getting into (70's) Black Sabbath.

Chris Slade is the best drummer AC/DC has ever had. I know I was campaigning hard for Simon Wright to come back when it was clear Phil was out, but that was more for setlist reasons - I can honestly say it would've fallen far below the standard Slade has set, again. Both his stints in the band have produced some of the very best AC/DC live performances ever.

Bring it Phil fans - he ain't as good as Slade.

Phil mightn't be as "good" as Slade, but Phil all the way for me.

  10. FACT: Tommy was in the knock off Guns N Roses (as in, in name only) and never had a hand in writing any of the songs people actually went to see that Guns N Roses perform.

FACT: Tommy would probably admit that the above statement is a fact.

But yeah, how good is that one little bit in that one song on Chinese Democracy where you can hear his bass?

Inspired whole new generations of bassists that did.
