Someone on the up and up like back in the day when they had Soundgarden, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Skid Row etc. Someone unknown. The world is in dire need of new rock and as someone whos been playing for a long time they ARE out there. A big co-headliner didnt work when it was Metallica and The Who, as much as I love them, are my Dads favourite band and GN'R are mine so polarising an audience to such a degree seems ludicrous. Personally I would have a great time but as Rose said, 'I'm One In a Million'

A lot of up and comers don't draw half of what GNR does. It's bad business to have them open and depend on that $$$$ coming in...

The best thing you can do, business wise, is take two well known classic bands and have them co-headline. They're both significant draws on their own, so together, its a guarantee that money will be made

Oh please. Axl cut his high school buddy out of the reunion over cash and replaced him with cheap labor instead. Is that loyal? BBF toured with the band for years, and supposedly even did so while in great physical pain. Was Axl loyal enough to him for his services that he was willing to write material with him? Hell no. Pittman spent almost 2 decades in the band, and in a drunken stupor made some idiotic social media post dissing the reunion. Was Pittman's 2 decades worth of loyalty enough to save his worthless spot in the band? Umm.. don't think so.

Let's face it, in all reality, Axl would probably sell out the majority if the box of donuts was big enough.

You're misunderstanding the term "loyal". You can be loyal to someone by not firing them blindly, versus giving them complete control of releasing new music. If Axl really wanted to sell out the majority, he would have fired the entire 2014 lineup minus Dizzy. He hasn't fired anybody since Matt Sorum- Freese, Huge, Bucket, Brain, Finck, Dj, Bumble, and Tommy all quit on their own.  Axl technically didn't force them out, but it's understandable for most why they left.

Axl Rose is as loyal as he can be to his employees. However, he still has his agenda. He won't kick you out, but he won't make you stay. It's a fine line you have to understand...

Quite the build up.......... The whole reference to Nightrain members just makes it look like they are going to announce shows... Is that really a big announcement when you are already pretty much in the middle of a tour though?

    Frustrating isn't it?!?!

Believe me, I'm getting pissed off with this band myself. They're making this seem like this announcement is something we really need to be here for, when it's just going to be more shows. Unless they at least finally had the decency to honor the appetite lineup by including Izzy and Steven, then I'm just going to laugh at this pathetic excuse of an announcement on Thursday. I have that right.

Some people have to calm down about him. Izzy is not available so Richard is the next best thing. That guy deserves more respect.

Isn't it possible to like them both?

Again, I do like them both. The problem is, Izzy actually is in fact, available. He always was. He just wants his cut of the loot, which he has a case for. And believe me, I'm more than fine with Fortus being in this lineup ad having a role but, he shouldn't take precedence over Izzy just because he was loyal to the Buckethead/Bumblefoot eras. Nothing came from that, except for Chinese Democracy, and we never even got one freaking music video from that incredibly over hyped album. This isn't about that band... it's being labeled a "reunion" of the lineup people cared about, which is the 1985-1993 era of GNR.

Fortus deserves more respect over Izzy, for being an Axl yes man? Not sure I can agree with that...

    Of course he is.

Fortus is NOT GNR...believe me, I did support the different nu lineups, Fortus had nothing to do with what made Guns N Roses what they were, and he still won't in the future. And the only reason he's still there, is because he doesn't have the decency or respect to quit on his own.

  6. -Of course they sound better than they ever have since you've been in the band, little ricky! Slash and Duff are back... it's the better scenario by far vs any prior nu-GNR lineup, which this pretty much still is in a sense.

    - Imagine how much better you would sound if you ditched Frank Rick.. Adler, Sorum, Freese, Brain, Fitz, hell Rob Gardner now would probably be better. But, he's a nice guy that doesn't ruffle feathers or fall of the wagon, he's also cheaper to pay so... it is what it is.

    - Fortus, you say the same thing about every lineup GNR has had since you joined. Love the optimism, but the honesty isn't there, really. On the other hand, at least you're halfway decent at understanding PR. Should have probably coached Dizzy a little better circa 2002 but...water under the bridge.

Live Nation is teasing it too...on their twitter they posted something like "Back Where it all began". This plus Steven saying Fernando had something planned for AFD30 Im guessing is a live show of some sorts.

Only Axl Rose would plan a reunion show/tour and, just "hope" for the heart and soul of that band to "show up as guests":facepalm:

  8. 2 hours ago, delilahrose said:

I fee the EXACT same way. I'm sure Steven would show up to anything, but if you're going to celebrate the 30th anniversary of AFD without Izzy, then please just don't bother. The only thing worse than not seeing Izzy there would be seeing Melissa jumping up and down. NO.

This. It's insulting otherwise. I still can't believe they sold the troubadour as "we're going back to where it l started", when that's only true for three people in that band. Dizzy has an idea, Fortus and Frank have no clue, and Melissa couldn't even drive herself there if she tried. Meanwhile Steven, who could have and should have played at least a couple of songs that gig, is left out along with Izzy.

I wouldn't say it's terribly awful, some songs are pretty good, but it isn't really a GNR album without Slash, Duff and Izzy.

It's a great album. Axl and the other guys did an amazing job, and shouldn't have too many regrets with regard to how the material came out sounding.

But the point you made, which I highlighted, is one even I can't deny. To be the GNR we all truly know and love, you need that core. GNR at the very least, is Axl, Slash, Izzy and Duff.

AFD5 seems unlikely based on the promo, I agree.

Still, it could be some kind of AFD celebration.

I would agree. The tour has been based on selling just the big three, and for a reason. On one hand, based on prior experience, it seems like it would be some July LA show(s), and at most the band will play the entire appetite album. At most, they could hope for Izzy and Steven to show up, without completely committing to them.

On the other hand, if Izzy and Steven were back, just for the sake of being the devil's advocate, they're not going to announce it via cheap minute and a half video. If anything, the video could just be a distraction, because all we know about are the big 3 so why not just show what the road has been like to this point for the big 3...in the GNR world, where things are backwards, it makes sense.

Not getting my hopes up that we're getting new music or AFD5 for some show(s) but, I'm just saying, there's an argument to be made either way that makes sense when ya think about it... We'll see what it is on Wednesday.

so, a little bird just came to my window and said:

warm up/anniversary show(s) in LA that will "feature" izzy and steven.  the bird didn't believe axl will ever tour with the afd5.  now, next year, ever.  unless the afd anniversary shows awaken something in him, like the spirit enters his body at rehearsal or during a show and he realizes how special the afd5 were together.  the bird wasn't sure if it would just be the afd5 for a couple songs or if they'd play appetite complete start to finish.

my ex liked birds.  but that's all over now.

    :lol::facepalm:

If this "bird" ends up being right, then you will have successfully replaced @Eddie Money as our new legit mygnrcsi insider.

GNR was negotiating with both Adler and Izzy at one point, so it's not true Axl never wanted them there. Of course I don't know the specifics of those negotiations, nor do I know Adler and/or Izzy were treated fairly, but it's just not true that Axl 'doesn't care' about the fans. There was some point at least he (and Slash and Duff) wanted the AFD 5 to all be there, in some capacity.

Which is true, and it's also why there was a breakdown in negotiation and communication. Steven didn't care what his role or lackthereof would even be, he didn't even care for the fine print. He just wanted to be back on stage with GNR and get that piano off of his back. It's clear that GNR's vision of Izzy's role and how Izzy seeing what his role should be, were two completely different things. It shouldn't be complicated but, it is what it is

obviously i would prefer new records and shows and tours… but to be honest… part of me would be happy just to see a PICTURE of the afd5 in a room, smiling, not being assholes to each other.  it just seems like at one point they were all so close, it'd be a shame to not celebrate themselves and the record they created at least for a night or two.  or for just a picture or something…  SOMETHING.  i want this to be the guns n' roses era where things aren't so dysfunctional.

I'm out of likes, but very well said.

It's pretty much where I'm at. The band doesn't owe the fans jack sh*t, regardless of how I or anyone else feels. But they owe it to themselves to reunite for SOMETHING, like you said. Axl shouldn't be looking at this as trying to please the manic depressive side of the GNR audience, who complain about everything and aren't happy with anything he or the band does... he should do it, because the 5 of them are forever blood brothers. They went through something none of us will ever truly understand, and they should at least try to finish what they started. They probably don't need the money... but they should do it for each other. Like Stinson said after reuniting with the Replacements, it'll be very good for the soul.

Far from being a hired hand, guitarist Richard Fortus has become an indispensable part of the Gun N’ Roses line-up

"I don’t think this band has ever sounded better than it does right now." Such a shame he wasn't a fan, he missed all the 80's and 90's gigs...

"Axl has never sounded better." I love Axl and I'm definitely enjoying his performances on the NITL tour but, never sounded better? Sure, Richard...

I like Richard but I like him a lot more when he's not talking.

I did appreciate the comment about those who wait their moment to wank, though. Bumblefoot must be pleased :P

Shows how out of touch Fortus is, with reality of course
