  1. Chinese Democracy, in my opinion, is one of the best albums of all time and at that, the most interesting and even complex. On the first listen I was downright offended, I thought the tracks were terrible. I hated Shacklers and Better, thought If The World was...weird. Street of Dreams I enjoyed. TWAT and Madagascar bored me, and Prositutue I thought was awful.

Why did I listen to the album continously after if these were my first thoughts? I was curious. It was a different album from the old GNR, for sure, and every time I listened to the tracks in a different manner I wouldn't know what to think. More and more the tracks started to grow on me, and I genuinely started to like the album. My now favorite songs of all time come from this album: TWAT and Madagascar. Brilliant masterpieces. Hell, I even enjoy Scraped and Riad.

The album is brilliant. Yes, it took forever to be released and it had a lot of artists on the track, but I don't agree with the people who think that this affected the album. Marketing was the only real problem.

The main complaint I hear is that Chinese Democracy isn't a true GNR album. And they're right. It's not. It's truly an "Axl Rose Band" record.

That being said, I like it just as much as the other GNR albums or even better.

Another argument I hear is that it isn't a solid rock album, "the style changed!" AFD and UYI were completely different also, people forget. Hell, even AFD and Lies were different styles. It's an natural progression of rock. It needed to evolve. Plus, Chinese Democracy has tracks similiar to what we would have heard in the UYI era (IRS, CD, Street of Dreams, Better) just like UYI had tracks similiar to what we would have heard in the AFD days (Back Off Bitch, Double talking, RNDTH, YCBM).

Another  reason the album wasn't well acclaimed was because the band was not well known. Band members were in and out, they did nothing to solidify themselves as a new GNR besides what, 2 tours? No photo shoots, little interviews, no EPs, bad communication, no press conferences. Plus the line up was a bit of a freak show.

Its a shame CD will never be accepted by the mainstream media because it is a brilliant, near perfect album that has changed my life.

  2. People at the hype of the hybrid reunion believe that new music will be released. And while I believe it's definitely possible, I just don't see it.

In 2016, why would Axl release music? He has money. He's released as much as he's been interested. Yes, Slash and Duff are back with him now but I don't necessarily think that will drag Axl to the studio. He spent nearly 16 years releasing one album due to him being a perfectionist..and from the rumors we've heard, he doesn't attend rehearsal and hasn't been training.

I think he got back together with Slash and Duff to tour and get some more money. I don't see why Axl would want to release more music, especially after CD's failure and I especially don't see Axl adding Slash/Duff's overdubs to leftover CD songs...

  3. Great topic. I feel like that Sorry is about the old band- Slash, Duff, and Matt.

"Just shut up and sing" pretty much gives it away. But I agree with others that it may serve as a follow up to Get In The Ring about the media. Axl has said the song does in fact have multiple meanings, so I feel like the entirety of the song is a message to the situation concerning the media and Axl's situation of the inevitable "reunion".

Madagascar, I feel like has a few lines about the old band. In fact, the second verse is entirely devoted to them in my opinion as others have stated. The general message of the song is like a middle finger to the old band, saying that he can in fact be something on his own. (Thus the epic conclusion to the song)

Riad n' The Bedouins   = Guns n' Roses? I know people claim the song is about something else but I always saw this and Scraped as a giant fuck you to the old band. Some lines at least. Again, songs can have multiple meanings.

I haven't even heard him screw up Estranged yet :/  Brownstone, YCBM and Rocket Queen are pretty bad though.

It may just be my personal opinion since Estranged is one of my favorite GN'R songs, but his drumming doesn't even come close to Sorum's in my opinion. I just don't like the way he does it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Gotta agree with you on Rocket Queen though. I can't tell the difference between his RQ intro and Scraped intro live. Brownstone he always turns terrible and YCBM...well the entire new band does not play it well in my opinion:lol:

It isn't for no reason.. There a lot of people that just don't like his drumming in Gn'R. Nothing against him as a person.

I don't like his drumming either, especially on Brownstone and Estranged but he has been working with the band since 2006, he knows the majority of the catalogue (or what will be played during this tour). Axl likes him and Frank is reliable. It would be rude and insulting to kick him out just for Adler or Sorum, as much as I believe they would add a better sound to the songs.

  6. Good. Frank shouldn't been kicked out of the band for no reason, just for Adler/Sorum. I love all 3 drummers (Sorum probably the favorite), but I respect Frank as a human like I do any other, and I feel as if it is his rightful place to be here. He has worked with the band since 2006.

Plus, this isn't being advertised as a reunion tour so there's further no reason for him to be kicked out.

  7. I already talked about this in your other thread, but I'll repeat some stuff here.

Dizzy Reed, Frank Ferrer, Richard Fortus and maybe Pitman still exist in the band. The Chinese Democracy songs will be played, as not only do the songs mean the world to Axl, it would be disrespectful and even degrading to dismiss the new band's efforts over the past 2 decades. Duff played CD songs with the band in 2014.

Slash and Duff (most likely) went back to Axl. No way would Axl give up his work for those 2, as even if now they are on good terms, Axl doesn't do anything for anyone. He's not gonna dismiss those 2 out of whatever you think is "respectful" or wrong.

Chances are they will only play 4-5 CD songs and there will still be tons of GN'R hits from UYI and AFD, so it's not too big of a deal.

CD, like it or not, is still GN'R.

  8. Should they play Velvet Revolver songs? Yes.

Will they play Velvet Revolver songs? No.

Keep in mind this is being advertised as a Guns N' Roses tour and yes, (and I'm gonna get sidetracked for a second) many people do not consider Chinese Democracy as Guns n' Roses but Axl does and there's no way that Axl would have agreed to this reunion if Slash and Duff weren't going to play Chinese Democracy songs. You have to keep in mind that if Slash and Duff want to rejoin GN'R, contractually they have to accept that what came out on CD are fodder for what will be played on the tour.

You also have to keep in mind that Chinese Democracy is very important to Axl. There's no reason in his eyes to throw away the Chinese Democracy songs just because Slash and Duff are present.

Duff has played the Chinese Democracy songs on the tours with Nu'GNR in 2014. Considering that the speculated line-up as of right now is the 2014/w Duff Line-Up plus Slash, minus DJ/Bumblefoot (and give or take a Pitman).

Fortus, Ferrer, Reed, (and again, give or take Pitman) are still in the band and to throw away the CD songs, the new band's only accomplishment in their lifetime, would be simply insulting and degarding to both Axl and the Nu'GNR members.

Velvet Revolver songs will not be played. It'll be close to the setlist we saw with Duff in 2014.

I don't see them busting out old songs like Locomotive and Breakdown (I WISH THOUGH ). This is not being advertised as a reunion tour. (partially because it's not being advertised at all, *ba dum ching*).

I just don't see it happening. It'd be cool, but it won't happen. Plus, in VR without the presence of Sorum, Kushner, and the late Scott Weiland the songs aren't the same. Slash can maybe play them seperaretly under his name as a solo artist, but he doesn't have the right to play them under the GN'R name.

As for Slash's solo albums? It wouldn't surprise me to see a solo or two from his albums, but with the rest of the band? Not happening. Nope.

Feel free to disagree/agree, I love discussion.
