  1. I don't agree with the R. Kelly stuff but I do get what he's saying.

Not to say that the post-Bad stuff was bad, but the style switch to a more new jack swingy sound is something I wish he hadn't done. A lot of his 90s songs sound dated to hell as a result. If I could narrow it down to one single thing I don't like about his later work, it's that deep, computerized, layered voice that appears a lot on his post-Thriller work.

Also doesn't help that his voice lost a lot of power after Thriller. Baby Be Mine works entirely because of his voice. Probably wouldn't have been able to pull that off in 95.

    That sums it up.

Maybe the R Kelly comment only applies to the ballads but, beginning with Dangerous he started doing this heavy-handed overproduced RnB. The pop influences and hooklines disappeared.

I kind of agree with the last part there. But where some may see it as a negative, I liked the stylistic changes. He still had hooks in his music, but they weren't the same kind of pop hooks that were so abundant in his earlier works.

  2. Calm before the storm for Maiden, hopefully.

Hopefully not. I'm fucked if they get announced too soon

True. If I end up going to my Soundgarden show as well as one of the AC/DC shows, I'm going to be toast.

  3. Kendrick Lamar - The Blacker The Berry

I love this. Probably because it contrasts with 'i' so much in sound. Two different messages, but two very different tones too. I love when an artist can do this successfully. Just makes me more and more curious about this new album of his. It could go in any direction.

  4. Well, I enjoyed it. There were parts that didn't land as much as others, but it was still a pretty funny movie. Not as classic as the original, but I've heard so many reviews calling it outrageously vulgar and such, and that never really crossed my mind as I watched it. Too many sensitive people. I could've done without some of the gags, but there was nothing that made me go, "Oh my, that was just uncalled for."

  5. I remember when I was in public school and we were in assemblies to watch performances or hand out awards. And if you stood up and wandered away or spoke out too much, you'd be told to stand in the corner or got detention by the teacher/principal.

I'll let you figure out where I'm going with this.

  6. they were alright for a bit, Smash was good, Ignition was good (thats the one with Kick Him When He's Down right?), load of bollocks after Smash really. Respect for getting The Funk Doc in their Original Prankster video though.

Yeah, Ignition has Kick Him When He's Down. Ignition is definitely my favourite album of theirs.

Not a big fan of this new single though. Even when The Offspring had radio singles in the past (Pretty Fly, Original Prankster, Hit That, etc.), they've always been uniquely them. This song just seems pretty bland. Even with their most commercial sounds, they still had a great punch in their sound. The production on this track is so processed. I'm really not a big fan. Hopefully they put out another good album this year.
