Huh? There are some great lyrics in CD ...
You misunderstand me. I mean the lyrics on CD were fleshed out and feel complete, unlike the recent singles I listed.

I guess people just hear/ feel these GnR singles are somehow off/ unnatural and simply don't sound very good. The General is just ridiculous, I expected more (negative) reactions, but not many people give a fuck at all at this point if the product is of this quality.
To be fair, when anyone on the board states their opinion that the new singles are of lesser quality than anything Guns previously officially released, you get the same couple of posters who attempt to rationalize their Axl nut-swinging with long winded posts.

I like Absurd. Liked it even more when it was Silkworms and more experimental. But to say it could replace a song on CD I think is ABSURD
There isn’t a single song on CD that wasn’t fleshed out lyrically. Absurd, The General and even Perhaps are no way as good lyrically as any of the songs on CD.

What are the chances???
Monstrous Black Crowes fan here & of all the songs in all the world...Chris Robinson & Slash cover The Pusher 🫤
Blind Melon already does my all-time favorite version. It will not be topped.
Slash & Chris Robinson are still going strong. Make some original material & tour please.
The Black Crows have a brand new album and tour this year. Love that band

Agree, but he is no magician. You have to give him something to work with.
Agreed. Hard Skool would have benefited greatly from being completely re-recorded under Clink’s watch. Not sure what he could have done with the two shitty songs, Absurd and The General.

Hypothetical question:
Let's say that GN'R, instead of Slash solo, were about to release the same album of blues covers, and Axl sounded as good as Brian Johnson on Killing Floor, same with the rest of the band.
How would everybody feel about that?
I would look forward to it as I think blues songs would fit his voice as it now. Plus, the lack of pressure to come up with quality new material could be a plus

There's plenty! We have not even heard half of CD2 yet. Conservatively, we got at least half a dozen "new" songs to go.
What songs do we think has vocals? Do you still have that CD2 list from the former wrestler dude? Oklahoma is easily my favorite of the Village instrumentals.

No one here is claiming Axl is god or that we are suckers for wanting him to share his art. You are just lashing out after being told that the whining is embarrassing
Guns is a legacy touring band that may or may not ever put out a new album. They have put out 4 rehashed songs that were most likely originally created over 20 years prior. Considering it’s been over 15 years since the underwhelming CD was released, I’m not sure why anyone would feel any different. Axl has not stated that a new album is in the works. Until this happens, everything else is speculation even if it comes from Duff or Slash.
If this is whining, so be it

Slash has released a video to promote his new album. He just went and did it, didn't say it would come out in a week or so like Axl said on December 12, 2008. Has that video *ever* been released? "Soon is the word."
Shhhh, Axl is god and we’re all just suckers for wanting him to share his art. Be grateful for what you have!

I had no idea I tended to get involved whenever someone disagrees with @Rovim. That was a pattern I was not aware of. Pretty cool, though, I can live with that.
And yes, Axl and Guns ARE free to do whatever they want. I wouldn't want the alternative where artists HAD to create and release music after some arbitrary schedule rather than when they felt ready. I am happy you agree with this.
If you don't like people arguing with you then maybe a public discussion board is not the place for you? This is kind of designed for discussions, even arguments.
I like to point out the BS I read on here and will continue to do so. If someone can’t handle being called out for it, that’s not for me to worry or even care about. What I say should have no bearing on anyone other than perhaps giving a perspective different from what someone else sees or believes from their own perspective.

No Bay Area dates? That Friday at Thunder Valley is looking like a fun day!

Now and then? Ok, more like any time anyone disagrees with @Rovimyou come in like a whirlwind to argue. We get it, you two feel that Axl and Guns are free to do whatever they want. And I agree with that. What I disagree with is your obvious need to argue with anyone that disagrees with you.

Be careful what you say. I only mean that I reacted to your bit about not having to accept how the band operates. In that argument, your opinion about their new songs is not relevant.
Be careful what I say? Why? The clipping, pasted on guitar and bass parts, and lack of good lyrics make 3 of the 4 songs hard to listen to with good audio equipment

Most people take that on their chins. They have learnt since childhood that whining gets you nowhere. They have learnt to focus on the positives and not the negatives that can't be controlled or affected by complaining. It is purely a coping mechanism for misadjusted people who can't deal with their emotions more constructively.
And why do you feel the need to constantly push your opinions or feel the need to act like you are superior here? What does that say about you oh wise one?

As they should, everyone is allowed to give their opinion, but regarding the ''complaining'' bit, your opinion on these songs, which you have given before, is really not relevant to the argument.
I disagree with you. The quality of the music is the most important part of a potential new album. And the need to constantly point out where one disagrees with someone is the point I am making here. And you have backed me in making that point by repeating your point again. Do you point out to those that like the music that it’s not relevant to the discussion or only when it suits you? Hypocrites are what they are 🤷🏻♂️

As a frontman and performer? Cmon, that’s not even a question. 1988 Axl was his peak before he became a rant machine.
As a person? He seems so much happier and content nowadays.- 3

Jeez, everyone wants to hear new music, that's not the point. But it's not your band, so what else can you do but accept it or move on. Do you think constantly complaining about it is going to speed up how they operate? If so, this band would have been a totally different animal by now. But I guess it's about what has been said before, some strange coping mechanism. And whether you think the songs are decent or not, is totally subjective and not relevant at all.
Fans can and will give their opinions on the quality of the music any time they feel like it. If that’s not relevant to a topic about a potential new album then there is no point in having this thread.
-
And here we go again, making excuses and Axl-splaining why those of us who want to hear more music should simply accept “the process”. 4 “new” songs have been officially released, of which only one is halfway decent. The rest wouldn’t even be worthy as fillers on the Illusions. And the only song that we have heard that was good, Monsters, is yet to be officially released.
outside of Slash and Duff, what else is there to talk about these days? Of course people are going to complain about 4 songs released in the 8 years since the semi reunion

Editing fuck-up is my best guess too. It's not a mistake of Duff's either, just that the drums are too synthetic feeling to get any sort of groove between the rhythm section. My theory is someone else's that I read here years ago; Melissa programmed the drums using samples from Frank's kit and Frank's input, but the parts weren't actually performed by a drummer.
Looking at the five CD remakes we have, Hard Skool and Monsters (in the chorus) both use the same drum samples. From the afterparty leak, we know Monsters is now more of a straightforward rock beat song than it was in 2010. Hard Skool is also dramatically reworked from the Village Leaks. It's possible that the bass/drum intro of Hard Skool was written before Duff and Slash joined, but all of this leads me to believe Perhaps, Absurd, and The General were more or less arranged before Duff and Slash rejoined (we know this to be true for Perhaps and Absurd), while Hard Skool and Monsters were reworked in greater depth by Slash and Duff, leading to new drum machine drums. The drums also don't sound the same tonally as Frank's initial recording sessions (Chinese Democracy, Oh My God BBF version are the two best examples of that I think).
It’s fascinating to read these details. I have zero experience with garage band or pro tools or any of that sort, so to read where parts have been reused or where there is a potentially missing drum part helps me to understand why the CD leftovers sound so weird. Like the Hey Hey part being lifted from State Of Grace.
I understand this is a legitimate way of producing music and it’s more common now than ever. It just feels so inorganic and forced if that makes sense.

Something like this would be the way to go. Forget about the rest of the Chinese leftovers, just write and record 12 tunes. Like musicians do.
Agreed. And don’t let Axl have final say about production issues. He has proven to be terrible in terms of approving quality releases

I get what you’re trying to do here, but it’s really pointless to engage with people who are lapping at Axl’s nuts. It’s like trying to get a MAGA chump to act like a human being with compassion for others.
