  1. We have now waited longer for the follow up to chinese democracy, than the spaghetti incident. At least DJ was postive in 2010...

He tells the Rock It Out! blog, "We're talking about that (the new album) right now. We've been throwing around a bunch of ideas and it should be good. We've got a lot of good stuff on the plate coming out. It won't take as long (to make as Chinese Democracy) - I promise...

  2. If this song came out on a new 12 track album - not as a single. we'd be like wow it's so experimental, cool ideas and a really interesting thing to put on an album. The fact is, it's come out 15 years after the least album, the 4th single in 3 years randomly dropped without explanation or reason. Of course the majority on social media won't like this. It's nowhere near a single or palatable mainstream release. it's a song dying a death because of how GnR have released it.

    Hardschool

    State of Grace

    Atlas Shrugged

    Absurd

    Perhaps

    Going Down

    The SeekerORWitchita Lineman

    The General

    Monsters

    Going Down

    Quick Song

    Nothing

    Seven

If we had that in 2010 or 2015 we'd all be delighted. people wouod like 2-3 songs different songs each, creating debate, there'd be 2 singles maybe and there'd be different styles for  all tastes. Instead we get them dropped one at a time destroying their impact and how we enjoy them. Fuck GnR Fuck Axl. Release the above album now. Just drop it and then move on.

It's clear the record label are pushing this as they own the material recorded over 20 years ago, hence why it's older music featuring some members of the band at that particular point in time.

The band are simply meeting an obligation.

They aren't stupid and understand the record label are trying to get in on the money wagon as the record label aren't generating any financial income from the band touring.

The band will release new music recorded by the current line up as they will have full control over that material.

Maybe, but even then the slow pace doesn't make sense. You'd think they'd want to get it out, clear the decks and be free. not shackled potentially to 2025.

there's no evidence that anything else would be released in the near future. You said "if we have to wait more than 3 months for Monsters, Atlas, State of Grace, then fuck this band." You also said earlier that you've learned to expect the worst from this band, but it doesn't seem like you have. I consider myself one of the more optimistic GNR fans, but even I'm not expecting them to release Atlas or SOG within the next 3 months, cause there's no evidence that anything would be released soon after the Perhaps vinyl. Based on all the evidence the best case scenario is that they would release Monsters together with The General, but even that is far from guaranteed.

Not because i expect it, because it makes no sense to wait another 2 years to release another 2 songs. Why? We know they are there. We already have them in near final form. Why not just release them? it's just ridiculous. All momentum will long since be lost once more then there'll be a random drop which goes unnoticed. they could have easily put those 6 songs on an ep in 2021. maybe throw in a cover of the seeker and witchita lineman. it's just so sad how shit they are. 30 years of this.

Axl in 2014 said the second part of Chinese was already recorded, and that they have worked on some of that, and written new things. We can expect 12-14 songs for CD2, based on the first album and other Guns albums.

    1. Hard Skool

    2. Absurd

    3. Perhaps

    4. The General

    5. Monsters

    6. Atlas Shrugged

    7. Going Down

    8. Oh My God

So that leaves 4+ other songs. Could be Nothing, Eye On You, State Of Grace, Berlin, Seven, Tonto, Cuban Skies, Monstrocity, Quick Song, Seven, Thyme/P.R.L. and Zodiac 13 and perhaps others, and also some of these may be the same songs with different names.

If I were a betting man, not counting remixes, and not counting the 5 NITL re-worked songs (if you count Monsters), I believe they still have a dozen or so completed songs with vocals we have yet to hear officially. So, not too far off from your assessment. I'm just a bit more optimistic. :P

I hope you are right, but this band has taught me to expect the worst! I'd assume of the 3-9 leftovers i mentioned, going down, nothing are obv 2 - we've heard them. Seven must have as it was mentioned as the best song that beltrami worked on. axl has mentioned vocals for berlin/oklahoma. the rest.. things like 4 heavens could genuinly be a re made KOHD and the rest could have been the remixes. I hope quick song had a vocal, i think axl defintely intended too, theres a great song there.

Safe bet? But why? I haven't seen or heard any evidence that Atlas would be coming any time soon. I do believe that both of these songs will be released some day. But there doesn't seem to be any evidence for that day being any time soon.

It was completed for CD and missed out due to time length issues. It is a fully finished song and as we know there arent too many of those left. It's logical. Could be wrong. But seeing as all the released songs were songs we already knew had vocals, i'd be completely shocked if it is anything else. Atlas, state of grace and soul monster. 2 of those 3 is a very safe bet.

I hope I'll just go to bed like a normal person instead of waiting until midnight just to hear something that sounds the same as the leak

    I'm stupid like that.

why did people think it'd be different to the leak though? They played it live and the live version was identical to the leak so we knew how it would sound, just slightly better audio quality.

Has there ever been a rational reason to think that we would be getting Atlas and State of Grace any time soon? I admit that not getting Monsters would be disappointing since it seems like they originally intended to put it on the vinyl. Fernando even teased that The General is a monster.

But wasn't the Atlas thing just a random rumor? You're gonna drive yourself crazy, if you're getting disappointed every time a random rumor doesn't come true. Or is there something that I have missed here? Is there a rational reason to believe that Atlas or SOG would be coming? If so, I haven't heard about it.

I think it's a safe bet on atlas. Absolutely nothing but blind hope about State of grace.

Don’t know how any GNR fan can say “Better” sucks or is unlistenable. Killer bridge. Great outro. Cool lyrics. Catchy verses with rAsP. Blistering solo. It has everything a GNR fan would want in a GNR song. But the little high-clean “no one ever told me” intro ruins all that? LOL. OK.

Also, “Chinese Democracy” was a fine lead single. Nice intro riff. It had Axl’s trademark screech at the beginning (first time I heard the studio release, I remember getting goosebumps at that part). Leaned into his “Brownstone” style voice. Good coda on this one too.

Let’s face it. This record could have had “Estranged” or “November Rain,” and there is a large segment of the fan base who would have still tuned it out ‘cause “no Slash.”

I’m pumped “The General” is actually coming Friday. Now we wait an eternity for “Monsters”?

Agree about better. It was the obvious lead single though, I cannot believe the video and a big push never came from that song. self sabotage of highest order. It is the only song on that album that i could have seen being played on mainstream radio. CD was very much a rock song, good, but not a lead single. probably not even a single. none of the other songs were, but the success of better was all it needed to garner the interest. SOD was probably a good last single, and even though TWAT is by far the best song on the album, it is never single material.

if we have to wait more than 3 months for Monsters, Atlas, State of grace then fuck this band. Can't be waiting till 2025.

Actually think his contract was up after the ANZ tour in early 07 so believe he was no longer an employee. Of course I imagine he was first choice but don’t think he was under legal obligation by the time CD actually came out.

has anyone actually asked him or found out exactly why he left? from what I remember the first we knew he was out was when they announced the 09 tour and that Dj ashba was the new guitarist for it in place of robin. it just shows that nugnr were never really a band. you dont put band members on contracts. you're in the band or you aint. for even finck to be a hired hand when he wrote most of the songs in the entire era and to be on the 01/02 tour and 06/07. Like he's a footballer just running down his contract to join a different club. it's ridiculous

My main problem with Myles is his songwriting and his melodies. I don't mind him that much in a live setting. That being said, it would be refreshing as hell if he isn't on board if Slash tours that record.

Myles is good live, agreed. His song writing and vocal melody lines is 95% meh and 5% fantastic. I find most of his work with alter bridge and slash sounds very generic and phoned in lyrically. Like 'oh crap ive got 40 songs to put lyrics to and ive only got 1 week to do it in' but amongst that there is some gold dust and incredible performances. blackbird and watch over you with AB, Back from Cali, Anastasia with slash. Obv there's a few other very good ones, but the amount he's churned out has certainly been great quantity, not great quality.

I've always thought instrumental of The General was inspired by opening theme from the Roman Polanski's movie "The Ninth Gate". Movie was released in 1999, so about the time they were working on Chinese Democracy.

Wouldn't surprise me if they used this as inspiration. Obviously it's slightly different key but the melody sounds almost lifted straight into soul monster/general

There is personal responsibility.  If you KNOW you can't afford something, why go out and buy it? My employer published an article on how Americans making $150,000 are living paycheck to paycheck. When I read that article, I was thinking that some people need to cut down on their expenses if they are making that much money.

My father had two jobs. He was a machinist and janitor. He was the sole breadwinner of a family of four. Additionally, he had to deal with a child that was born with a disability (me). Even with two jobs, my brother and I figured out that we were living close to the poverty line. Yet, he was  able to save money because he made sacrifices. He also put my brother and I through college if there were costs that were not covered by scholarships.

I don't feel badly for this guy, especially since he made a joke about people with disabilities in a previous thread and now whining about $15.

That's even worse that you have a disability and do no get the support you should that other nations get without a second thought. The argument is no one should have to work two jobs to make ends meet. You shouldnt have to sacrifice basics. America needs to stop giving all your money to the top 1%, tax them properly and actually build society from the bottom up. It's far from perfect in the UK and EU, but compared to america it is like a utopia.

Whose fault is that? If you can't afford $15 for a record, why are you even buying it to begin with? If you have other responsibilities or  expenses shouldn't you take care of that first before anything else?

I broke my foot in mid August. I'm currently on disability leave from work. I'm not getting a full paycheck. My childhood friend wants to go see Iron Maiden for the second time. I told him no for now since we saw them last year and I'm not getting a full paycheck at the moment. I have expenses to pay.  That's my priority first and foremost until I'm able to go back to work.

If you can't afford $15 then you shouldn't be buying something that you may not need. Additionally, you should know your priorities. GNR nor any other bands can do that for you. Neither can a  fan message board.

Reading things like this makes me feel so bad for americans. Genuinely a 3rd world country. I guess at least you haven't lost your house and family paying for the treatment like so many others. But hey, land of the free and all!

if you think the band is shit then maybe people should stop spending their time and money in general on them and find other hobbies? i don't understand the obsession on shitting on something you don't like anyway and then complain about it on a fan forum. it's like me buying a taylor swift album and then complaining on a fan forum how shit the music and the merch is

No it isnt. it's absolutely nothing like that because you never liked taylor swift. It's more like Axl Rose loving stephanie seymour, then spending the next 15 years writing songs about her and wanting her back.

But it's way easier to just point the finger and say how shit GNR is and how they are tricking this poor kid into buying stuff. Maybe we should open a fund for him or something.

They aren't exactly giving the kids a good service either though are they? Of course, your own money is your own choice and if you choose to buy something you take your chances, fair enough. But GnR hardly have a great track record for great service or great products or every delivering anything on time. It's not cool anymore. maybe it was in 2002, but it don't wash anymore. That nightrain membership.... good grief, give me that money back!

I still can’t believe The General is not a 7-8 min epic. I don’t hate it but it is nothing like I expected it to be

Yeah, gutted. I think it probably never was. We heard the 2-3 minute orchestra and assumed it was an intro, then heard soul monster and heard the slow grind and build into the final verse vocal and joined the dots. sadly it wasnt even the right song we imagined. I do think that is what the whole CD era lacks. that 8 minute+ epic. There were 3/4 on UYI and CD got closest with TWAT i guess. maybe prostitute though thats really just a longer normal song

It's normal to have more subscribers than views on any given video. I'm not sure how that's supposed to relate in any meaningful way.

No it isnt. You've just said something that is completely untrue and factually incorrect. Your credibility was already low, but now it's nothing. Your defending of the shitshow that is the gnr (mis)management and release plans is breath-taking. they wont shag you mate.

    1. Pretty hilarious to call someone "massively ignorant" while comparing an entire album that's been out for 15 years to a single that's been out for 3 months. The fact that you're resorting to personal insults speaks to how weak your ability to defend your point is. I was talking about the song CD, not the album. You should work on your reading comprehension. Whether you watch videos or not, that is a very popular way to engage with music in 2023. Hence the 5 million views on Perhaps. Hello?

    2. "most of what you are saying is complete nonsense". Why even respond if you're just going to engage in this kind of cop-out? Just trying to save face/pride? It's pretend because the universe where Axl releases an entire album faster than he releases singles is not the one we live in. We also know that 2010 album never happened, proving my point.

"So yes it is a choice between a couple singles every couple of years and an album."

I might as well just start copy and pasting my previous comments because you aren't reading them before responding...

"You're pretending it's a choice between a couple singles a year or an album right now."

I even emboldened the words RIGHT NOW and yet you still managed to miss or ignore them somehow?

My point is extremely clear, you have to be deliberately avoiding it because I refuse to stoop to your level of calling somebody "dumb" and "massively ignorant". You know what you're doing.

    For Axl Rose? Quite possibly.

Again, this is the reality we live in.

Slash and Duff alone aren't GNR, are they?

At this point it seems like you're just so defensive and emotional at someone disagreeing with you that you can't even read straight.

I went way out of my way to say that I was not commenting on the timeliness. And then I had to repeat that FOUR FUCKING TIMES. And it still hasn't gotten through to you?

Quote where I defended how long it takes to release anything, I'll wait...

all i heard was wah wah ive had to repeat myself wah wah ive said the wrong thing 4 times to defend lord tb and lord Axl and i know so little about music i think it takes 15 years to release an album. oh yeah and wah wah i care so little i replied 4 times wah wah. that about right?
