The lack of information makes me believe is a big issue with something, usually he tends to speak on Twitter about this things, just like in London last year, this silence is not good for sure
If it was an issue as big as some on here are speculating I would think they would have already postponed more shows to save the money on the build out of the venues.

Franks job is the 2nd most physical. I’d throw him in there
get well whoever it is!
Getting a flight plus hotel for a show to be cancelled sucks.
I think if Frank, Richard, Dizzy or Melissa were sick and couldn't perform they'd have somebody fill in and just not play songs that the fill in was not capable of doing. A couple of years ago Aerosmith had Joey Kramer's drum tech fill in after his car accident (or whatever kind of accident it was).

So many heartless people in here who just view the band as a robot or something. These are humans like you and I and clearly they wouldn't cancel unless someone was seriously ill. Everyone in the band outside of Melissa is at an older age and it could be something serious. Have a heart and fuck off
It has to be something where the ill band member is too sick to perform but it doesn't have to be (and hopefully isn't) an actual serious illness. If Axl has a really bad sore throat he can't sing if it's something that hurts to talk. I've had really bad colds or the flu that have sapped all of my energy and I couldn't do much more than sleep for 2 or 3 days straight. If I was a performer, I can't imagine getting myself into a state where I could put on a show.
It could even be a bad ear infection that prevents a band member from being able to fly. Who knows but we don't need to jump to conclusions that it is something potentially life threatening because the they are in their late 50s to early 60s and have to cancel a show.
It's possible that they still use pointless COVID protocols and somebody wasn't that ill but tested positive and now has to test negative before they can resume being around the rest of the band.

I was at this show - I thought it was phenomenal
The sound and setlist were great. My wife kept commenting how good Axl sounded. The whole band was on fire that night. I saw them at the Rogers Centre in 2016, the sound was way better this time.
I can vouch that Axl sounds much better in person than on YouTube - that’s a fact.
As Absurd was playing I was thinking to myself this song really does sound ALOT better live. Then my wife looked at me and said Axl should have kept this one locked away. The young kids next to us seemed to go nuts for Absurd, so I guess it’s personal preference.
Overall a great night - I’ll see them anytime they come around. I’m seriously looking forward to attending Power Trip.
I think (as somebody who has attended 4 shows since 2016) that the less desirable sounding parts of Axl's voice don't stand out as much in person due to the mix and volume. I think the cell phone recordings "pick out" the vocals more in the audio processing and highlights the flaws but the flaws exist live. If you specifically focus on the lead vocals live you will notice it. If you just get absorbed in the show and the overall sound then it doesn't stand out.
During parts of songs with quiet instrumentals the same vocal is definitely present live.

Maybe tryin to sing like 2010... 46... 47 years old is too much effort and he could fuck his vocals cords.
I want to hear the rasp one last time.
The rasp sometimes appears briefly in selected songs.

The closest vocal example I can think of in terms of vocal theatrics is Robert Plant and when he became Axl's age he was doing 90 minute to two hour sets and he'd throw a fair few acoustic songs. The one full on balls to the wall hard rock show he did was The O2 reunion and a fair few songs were detuned a whole step. I feel the time has come for Axl to take a similar approach - detune some of the songs and do shorter sets. There's no shame in it, I can't think of any of the hard rock guys who in their 60s were doing shows of a similar length to Guns.
The thing is though, in spite of the vocal issues I really do applaud Axl's efforts on stage. The only other guys who do shows of a similar length are Springsteen and McCartney and whilst they're significantly older, they're not hard rock guys. The thing with Axl is that he's a phenomenal performer, he's living those songs and you can really see that (and the fact he's sung them a gazillion times and is still like that shows how great he is as I have seen bands phone it in who've been doing similar sets for a few years). I mean, Axl/DC really proved that to me, they weren't his songs but he was fully connected to the material and was living it. One main point of comparison would be Myles - dude can hit all the notes but I've never really felt like he's fully connected to the material.
Ultimately, I'll take a great performer over a great singer any day. I mean Ozzy got flak for his voice as he got older but I've always left an Ozzy show feeling amazing. The dude's just a phenomenal performer and can work a crowd. I'm not massively bothered by Axl's voice for that reason. I think the issue is though that more reviews like that will pop up.
100%. Although Axl can't sing like he used to, especially live, I'm not going to a GNR show to hear pitch perfect vocals. Going to see a rock band isn't like going to see Celine Dione or Pavaratti. It's about the attitude more than the vocal perfection.
Freddie Mercury was probably the best "singer" to front a rock band and even he wasn't perfect live. He sometimes did songs in a lower key than the recording and got a lot of backing vocal help from Roger Taylor especially.
To expect Axl at 61 to sound like Axl at 28 is unrealistic. He wasn't a perfect singer back then so he certainly won't be 3 decades later.

Right before the debut in Pittsburgh
I guess that would settle any discussion about whether the vocals are new or old. If they were from anytime recent he wouldn't have to figure out how to sing it.

If I want to see the lead singer on piano all night I'll go see Billy Joel.

Why does it seem Axl has switched to the handheld train horn vs. the full sized one mounted on the stage? Did somebody sue them like the stupid b that ruined the mic toss?

Maybe so they can say they played stuff from the alt setlist!

Maybe they can cover "barbie girl" with Melissa on lead vocals later this summer! Axl can handle the male vocals.

Better late than never, but the show was fuckin' awesome on Friday night, it's my 6th time seeing them since 2017.
The overall enjoyment of the performance lives and dies by Axl as far as I am concerned and that is what makes this latest tour leg seem to stand out so much and this is especially the case when you are there live and even after watching Glastonbury live on TV over here.
At one point about a quarter of the way into the show I was thinking to myself, this is the best and closest I am going to get to the UYI days or some semblance of what it was like and again it comes down to Axl and his stage presence this time around. His signature moves making reappearances as best he can for his age, the constant moving and sprinting across the length and breadth of the massive Hyde Park stage, all tied together by the shape he is in, the best yet by the looks of things since this whole new chapter began in 2016.
Of course, no GN'R concert review can go without some mention of Axl's vocals and of course they are not going to compare to the prime of his career, but like many seem to mention and I would wholeheartedly agree, live in concert and with the right sound mix they can come through much more powerful and punchy then you are expecting from watching audience recorded YouTube clips and the like. This was certainly the case at Hyde Park and I can totally see why some whether long time fans or casuals had commented that he sounded the best he has in 20 something years, as facetitious as that may sound to any of us of course.
Overall though I was thoroughly satisfied and entertained moreso than I thought I would be coming into this show and that was even after knowing some of the lesser played cuts they have introduced to the setlist now would be making an appearance.
I dare say based on this current Euro-form Axl is going to really surprise fans and audiences on the US leg of this tour and I hope the band capatilises by dropping a new song then.
Great review! I wouldn't bet on the last 9 words your wrote, unfortunately.

True.
Common sense would have been to say something like "oh and btw, we've got new songs coming out next week, hope you enjoy them, this is one of them" and launching into something massive there and now.
Buuuuut apart from that, it was a mean gig and a night to remember.
I don't know what band you are dreaming of but certainly that kind of common sense will never happen from GNR.

Is that an old-style mic stand? Did he have that all show or I have I just noticed it?
I just flipped the stream on half way through Civil War and noticed in YCBM he was using half a mic stand. Is he doing a Freddie Mercury tribute due to being in the UK?

Yeah i mean the "welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games" part
Maybe he tires his voice when he does the intro, "Do you know where the fuck you are, you're in XXXX baby, you're going to die" scream and it doesn't recover enough by the first line.

Just watched WTTJ on Youtube and god, the first "Welcome to the jUUUngle" line is always the single most embarrassing part of the show in my opinion ... idk why can't he put a little bit of added effort into that part like he does for Better.
Hoping that bit doesn't go viral on the internet (like it once did on Tiktok i believe) after they do Glastonbury, because the rest of the song is fine and sounds great live...
Do you mean the opening line in the song?

The question is what is the number that would get them to play a private show for Putin?

How about they use AI to animate a hologram of Axl circa 1987 projected on a scrim at the front of the stage to go along with AI vocals for concerts?
That technique works pretty well in theme park rides.

Axl used oxygen tank when he was in UYI tour too, and he was young. Now it woul'be more logic.
Actually it has no logic then or now. If you have normal lung function, breathing oxygen doesn't oxygenate your blood any more then breathing regular air.

mate its going to cause war (if it gets in the wrong hands, which it will , which it has ...a.k.a. youtube ) they are currently on the cusp of completing the transition to the second stage - AGI, in which the intelligence of machines can equal humans.
Thankfully AGI is at least decades off from being possible.
Current level AI also has many negative consequences and is something civilization needs to consider putting limits on.
There are some good applications like using AI to replace human security bag screeners and guards watching video monitors. I have no doubt AI will be much more effective at identifying threats.

The closest together I've done was mid August in a stadium in Missoula, MT and then early October indoors in Hollywood, FL in 2021 both in the pit. Both shows were enjoyable. There were some setlist differences and the crowds were very different which made each show unique.
Missoula was more of a biker vibe. Hollywood was more hardcore fans and latin Americans. In Hollywood the pit sung along with everything including Absurd.

The next show is scheduled for Tuesday. It won't take the CIA to figure out if they are setting up for it. I'm sure people have friends on the local crew and will report when their shifts are cancelled. The build out would start by tomorrow night. If it was strained or tired vocal chords I'd assume the doctors would have a pretty good idea how long he'd have to rest his voice and rehab it before he can perform again. I think that the fact that there hasn't been a postponement of multiple shows means that it is more likely an illness that is causing issues with his voice and that's why they don't know when he'll be able to perform again.
Also, we are all assuming the ill member is Axl. It could just as easily be Slash who has a history of more health problems than Axl.
