  1. This is so neat regardless!  At first I heard it and on repeat listens for some reason not so much.  But after Axl speaks, theres a first burst of a few chords then a pause and its the next burst of chords sounds like Chinese Democracy intro to my ears.

And at the end we can hear Slash segue into some chords form the turn around in intro of jungle.  So at very least these two 'lead off' tracks have a similarity that way - some chord progressions from same wheelhouse.

But also really neat about this concert being reviewed for Live Era.  Always so much between the lines!

And then Slash changed it for NITL?

    What a band!

I had a VHS of Paris PPV that a friend gave me.  I watched it hundreds of times.  As a young person I didn't have money to buy Tokyo 92.  I had seen bits of Tokyo over the years and it the audio mix always sounded flat to my ears.  The visual seemed dark and muted as well.  I think I was just so used to Paris, which starts in the day light and has an open air sound.  I wonder if theres two lineages of fans among us: the Paris-Centric and the Tokyo-centric?  I wonder what it means about our experience of the band?

Thanks for posting this, this will be my first viewing of entire show!

You're short-sighted enough to not include a third lineage of fans...those that actually attended performances during this time.

You saw them?! Thats so cool! And once with Izzy? I am so jealous!  But Im curious about one thing:  how would going to shows on that tour preclude one from also being potentially drawn to one of the concert videos over another?

Anyone ever listen to Poe? When I first heard the CD leaks, it brought her to mind immediately

Interestingly, Matt Sorum did some co-production work and an assistant engineer credit on a few Poe tracks,  Angry Jonny is the most well known.  Based on what Sorum says, you have a great ear!

He said "I had produced (techno songstress) Poe and there were drum loops in the songs, and Axl wanted that.  But Slash is a rock guitarist.  He doesn't want to do techno-industrial."

I agree. Don't mean to scrutinize him like others seem to do, just looking for input. It's particularly the memes that people posted that like, bugged me? Which is probably lame, but I just wonder, like, what does Axl think of himself? As long as he's happy and healthy, really, that's what matters.

Sorry for coming off as if i thought you were scrutinizing him in a negative way.  I can see how I might've come across that way.  I was hoping to agree with your concern and add my thoughts.  I think we have a similar outlook on it being kinda toxic in some cases.

  6. To me it seems like Axls body is objectified in a way that our culture (at least western) usually reserves for women.  Im sure there are other famous males who are too, but its kinda rare I think?  I guess i mean his clothes and everything, not just body.  Im not really hoping to make any grand statements on the objectification of the body or its gendered norms.  And if I were it would be difficult as Axl doesn't seem to me to be opposed to objectifying women.  And again, whatever, not looking to settle gender and objectification issues on a fandom forum.  Not what I come here for personally.

And if people talk about finding him sexy, thats great!  Thats how we humans are!  Im speaking about the assumed right some have to discuss and make demands of his body and appearance.

I think its noteworthy because its just one more way that Axl is put under pressure.  He seems to always be in a position to be judged heavily and scrutinized more then his famous male peers.  Maybe Im wrong?  Just seems that way to me.

And its complicated because sometimes the conversation on Axls appearance has to do with his weight or fitness. Complicated because weight can effect ones singing voice, in some cases.  I saw Axls GNR twice in Toronto 2010.  Incredible shows, amazing vocals especially night one IIRC.  Then I saw him in Hamilton 2011 and it was plenty of mickey.  And I have to say, he was looking a bit heavier, including on his throat.  So, his voice and the cause of its condition should be open for discussion, but it opens the door to put undo pressure on someone that we are fans of.  Someone who carries enough on his shoulders.

And I just wanna say that I am not writing this in response to anything said above.  Just my general opinion over time.

buttless chaps, bike shorts/boots/socks/umpire thingy/boa/kinky mother goose style hat, shirt permanently tied around waste, hat or hat confiscated by Ms Young, have at it Axl!  You are the greatest frontman of all time!!

Im wearing a short-sleved plaid button up shirt, jeans and slippers.  I cant sing and I've never been a celebrated visionary.  So you're welcome, world, for my commentary on fashion and singing:)

  7. Thanks for sharing this! Hearing Slash and Dover in good spirits and carrying the vibe of rock stardom really took me back in time.

I was in grade school in 95', rock was my life and Its Five O'clock Somewhere was my ultimate favourite album.  I still like it a lot and also I'm surprised that Slash thought every single one of those tracks could stand up on a proper GNR album.  Thats some other-worldly ego.

1995 was an inspiring year in rock n roll for me.  I think I would have also been listening to Age of Electric (Todd Kerns band) in 95' and there was a lot of cool stuff.  Looking back it seems like the end of an era IMO.  I wasn't a huge Nirvana fan until In Utero but with Kurt and then Shannon Hoon dying, SFTD never really made a radio impact in my area, Estranged video was played less and less, it seemed to me like the genre was just fading away. But then there was Snakepit!  After Snakepit ran its cycle there was the brief GNR updates in the Metal Edge magazines I'd steal while doing my paper route; zack wylde this, industrial that, and then nothing.

So, all this to say that in my experience I am so grateful that Snakepit came out and gave me a year more of that feeling.  The feeling that this genre was vital and exciting.  It was a good year.

  8. The issue of insurance came up - what if alders back acted up?  But as Adler says, and as many insiders and rock journalists said in lead up to NITL announcement, theres was always going to be ferrer and fortus along with Izzy and Adler.  So there was always enough 'reliable' players to keep tour viable.  It all sounds very sad for fans who'd desire a AFD5 or AFD5+ reunion, but also for each of AFD5 themselves.

Adler may make himself easy to mock or dismiss, but he's at least able to achieve closure, forgiveness and healing.

    I adore his drumming.

  9. I just thought I remember watching a periscope and hearing McBob do it.  Would've been late at night for me.  Sorry, I have nothing to point to, but hoping if Im not mistaken others would be able to point to it.  Would've been last summer if at all.  Obviously I may be remembering wrong - and probably am as it would've made news here -  but does anyone else remember it happening?

  10. This I Love remix that Melissa worked on, a third AC/DC cover replacing Seeker, a Metallica/Megadeath/Gaga mashup to be on trend, Be the Ball, Drum solo, and why don't they play anything by Love Spit Love?!?

Just having fun, I could go for any of the set list suggested above.  It would be nice to have it changed up.  But its all fun and games until somebody sincerely suggests Sentimental Movie!
