Never cared much for his solo work, too slick for my taste, but the stuff he did with Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino is excellent. He's probably one of the best guitarists of this generation.

Skip to 3:16 and listen to that bass line! All three of them in full force

  2. New John Mayer album is out now, thoughts so far?

I‘m a bit disappointed sadly.. the singles  he released over the last two years are the strongest songs imo, the new songs are not as good. Last train home for me is the best song on the album. Til the right one comes and shot in the dark are okay, the other new songs are quite forgettable. But maybe I need some more time to get into them 🤷🏼‍♂️

I think he just can't really play Buckethead's solo properly at all - or else he would have shown at least once by now and perhaps even added a cherry on top, like Buckethead did with the Nightrain solo.

Slash doesn't even care to get the timing and the bendings for Robin Finck's solo right. He emulates a kill switch with a wah, chops the melodic flow and structure of the song into bits and pieces and on top of that replaces chromatic tapping with pentatonic noodling. That's not a matter of style, improvisation or taste, that's simply playing the wrong notes because he can't be bothered to really listen to that beautiful song in the first place. I've seen bedroom guitarists on YouTube doing this song more justice than him.

Maybe they should just stop playing CD material and go full on nostalgia. Perhaps even replace the November Rain coda with that of Locomotive and then play the SCOM solo in the middle of Jungle. People probably wouldn't mind or even notice, as long as the guitarist is Slash.

I think he did the solo quite well. He stayed close to the album version but it still sounded like Slash. Also I can't imagine Slash using a killswitch or doing tapping.

GNR are like the Stones, quite consistent:

The percentage of good/bad performances of any song on any night are the same today as 30 and 50 years ago, respectively.

Both used to play faster, but that's life.

I disagree. GNR are definitely not as good as in the 90s imo and they also played most of the songs  faster during NITL, than they did before

I was at the Glendale show but I don't remember what was so special about that Patience? Was Axl better than usual?

He basically ran around the whole stage while singing the outro. When I watched it, that was one of the few moments during NITL, where it felt like 1992 again.

By far the best version of Patience since the reunion

  6. I do care. Even though I make fun of the band and Axl in particular, I really hope they’ll sound good and the tour will be successful. I‘ll get up early in the morning in Germany and watch videos of the Hershey show (if there are any) and I‘ll be happy if they sound good and sad (but not surprised) if they sound bad

  7. If Germany plays like they played against Hungary, England should be safe

    My predictions:

Wales 1:2 Denmark on Extra Time

    Italy 3:0 Austria

    Netherlands 2:1 Czechia

    Belgium 2:1 Portugal

Croatia 2:2 Spain - Spain wins on penalties

    France 3:1 Switzerland

    England 2:0 Germany

Sweden 1:1 Ukraine - Ukraine wins on penalties

So what setlist would people like to see for the upcoming tour?

Might see some more UYI songs thrown in the mix?

Less covers, less solos, shorter RQ, shorter KOHD, some UYI „deepcuts“ like PTU, Bad Obsession, Dust N Bones with Duff on vocals, YATF acoustic version.  Better and YCBM need to go, they just sound atrocious.

Perfect Crime was on the setlist Alternate songs during 2016 I think, but I doubt that Axl could pull it off, same goes for RNDTH, Don’t damn me and Garden of Eden.

I hope for Hardschool and maybe another „new“ song.

If most those things happen, along with Axl sounding at least bearable, I’d probably buy tickets for Europe next year
