There is something about a lot of the rockers on the illusions that just seems like the are missing something. They feel a little thin or weak compared to the rockers on Appetite and LIES. Not really sure what it is.. Most likely the mixing I guess.. Izzy too low in the mix.. I always felt that "You Could Me Mine" was able to capture the heaviness and balls of Appetite... I wish all the rockers did..

Always felt the same about this. I’ve never been able to quite put a finger on it, but I’ve also suspected it’s the lack of Izzy. Love the UYIs, just in a different way from AfD. YCBM was as close as they got to recapturing the lightning in the bottle.

If I had to guess, they were probably all part of the 2000 intentions album that was originally supposed to drop in 99/00. The one that apparently got rejected by the label. If it did, I don’t understand why. Great songs that sounded even better than when they were eventually released on Chinese.

Agreed. Kind of makes me wonder if the label rejecting these versions was what shot Axl’s confidence to some degree. Shameful and sad if so.

  3. Thank God.. Charlotte finally. Being born in ‘93, I missed the glory days of the band. Before I woke up this morning I was burned out on the tour as much as everyone else (saw them twice in 2017 and had my fill). But I still find myself excited to catch the show in September. These few dates don’t detract from the possibility of a new album in my opinion. Doubtful they’ll debut anything this year in any way, shape or form but I’m optimistic they’ll close out the tour FOR GOOD after 2019 and 2020 will bear fruits for our patience.

Or maybe not. The only thing that would be more disappointing than no new album is anything with the Chinese Leftovers.

  4. They would definitely be mainstream. Rock is in the toilet right now, but that’s not to say that fans aren’t hungry for someone in the mold of a modern day GnR. I’m 25 so I was being born as Guns were fizzling away. From what’s been described to me, they were THE band back in the day. They wouldn’t sit atop the throne solo today, but they would definitely be well received.

It’s my opinion that cover to cover AFD is the best rock album ever. But the Illusions records would fit a little more into the mold of what today’s audience is looking for. There’s some synth and what not, but not too much. Ironically, I think their most popular song in today’s industry would one they haven’t even released: Crash Diet. It’d fit in great released today.
