It is a much better album than Contraband.

I thought I was the only one who thought that.

Libertad is a lot more developed and varied than Contraband.

Contraband was good - it was refreshing to hear a band really rocking in an unironic fashion in 2004. But you could tell that these were the first bunch of songs that the band came up with. There's many similar sounding riffs.

And too much 'yeah - rock n fucking roll motherfuckers' BS in the lyrics.

I never said 60 year old men are deaf. I said these are 60 year old whose ears have been exposed to loud noises on a fairly regular basis.

Yes. And they probably took a very cavalier approach to protecting their ears in their younger days.

Indeed - some people who were lucky enough to be at their early gigs in LA reported that they were - literally - painfully loud.

Maybe this is some kind of Paul McCartney type situation on that one Foo Fighters album where they revealed they have Paul McCartney guest on the album..but it's him playing DRUMS lol.

Paul was the best drummer in The Beatles, don't you know?

(No disrespect intended towards Ringo, who was good in his own right).

They’d never invite Axl, he’d never do it, because he definitely could *not* bring it right now.

But more importantly, no way AC/DC gets the halftime show. The Super Bowl’s classic rock phase is over - they’re trying to court different markets. The last few Super Bowls should give a hint as to who they want to book. They just tried to get Taylor Swift, though she turned them down. It’ll be a pop act.

For what it is worth, the mayor of Vegas is supposedly really keen for AC/DC to be the halftime act. Don't know if they have much sway in that decision, but there it is.

Even if it is a 'classic rock' act, they would probably have to have loads of crossover cameos from younger artists and genres (so probably not Axl).

For all I care about the halftime show these days, they could have 'Up With People' doing an Ed Sheeran medley.

In an effort to get this thread back on topic, I hope an eventual new album doesn't include Hard Skool as it was in 2021, that mix is atrocious. Absurd seems a bit better, Perhaps, significantly better. I expect the same for The General. If they are replacing most of Bucket and Robin's work, which has been evident thus far, they could at the very least mix them better than the "rough mixes" from the Village CDs...

Speaking of CDs, I hope the new album is available on both CD, and audio cassette. I expect it to be on vinyl.

Joe Barresi is credited with mixing Perhaps (among his other credits is the miraculous most recent album by Tool).

So let's hope he has mixed The General and whatever else GnR might be working on.

I see less than 0 per cent chances of that happening with Brian back on board - who was less than happy with the whole Axl/DC run.

Also, AC/DC have never been too prone to guest spots on their shows to begin with, nor are they known to keep in touch with people who once played with or for the band.

I think I agree. And if they were persuaded to allow a guest singer or two, it would probably be someone who would appeal more to the younger generations.

Olivia Rodrigo to have a crack at 'Highway to Hell'? What a perfect time to go refill my beer glass!

  7. Hopefully not going too far off topic here, but AC/DC are strongly rumoured to be playing the halftime show at the next Superbowl (in Las Vegas)

The question is - if they do, will they invite their old mate Axl to the party (i.e. for a cameo)?

Or should they? It would be good promo for any new GnR product but... could Axl bring it like he did in 2016?

Either way, as long as AC/DC play Sin City - and the Bills lift the Lombardi at last - I'll be content.

(C'mon - there's more chance of either happening than an Axl/DC revival!)

I’ve never understood why it was so expensive. I feel like you’d have to try hard to spend that much on making a rock album. I guess that figure might include the cost of the 2 unreleased parts of the so called trilogy but wtf.

Because they booked lots of studio time and studio time is expensive.

Since we're talking lyrics, themes and meanings...

If General is what we think it's about....it could be one of Axl's most personal and painful lyrics ever....his childhood....

Be more specific....as I will do the same if so!

All the parts and layers had more space in the stereo mix. It sounded less claustrophobic than it did through a single phone speaker.

I see that Joe Barresi (most famed for his work with Tool) is credited as the mixer.

The sad part is that atlas is actually decent, but was hyped up cause someone long ago (can’t remember who) said that it was the next November Rain.

The problem with Atlas is that the chorus is a bit of a damp squib (I mean the 'more than what it takes to be a man' bit).

If that was improved, or maybe a good middle eight was added, it could be killer. I doubt that will happen, but that's my opinion.

On the day that Harry Kane joins Bayern Munich, breaking tens of millions of hearts, destroying Tottenham Hotsput Football club, GnR couldn't even release a 24 year old (and 3 year old re recorded) single song on the day they chose it to be released to soften any blow. This band is criminal.

Just don't piss the money you get for his transfer fee away - like you did with the Gareth Bale money

    Bwahahahaha.
