There's tons of songs with higher pitched mid-range vocals. Especially female pop stars sing a lot like that. And it's not like Axl can't hit those notes. It's just that he doesn't sound like the raspy classic Axl anymore when he sings like that.

But if you want examples of non GNR songs with RASPY higher pitched mid range singing, there's a lot of that in classic rock. For example Love Hurts by Nazareth. Axl would be in Mickey mode, if he tried to sing that too.

Right. Dan is such an influence on Axl. Do you think it's possible to sing scom without mid range rasp?

Rock the Rock is exactly in the same pitch as the Brian Johnson songs. It's some low voice and lower pitched mid-range and then some higher pitched screaming. No higher pitched mid-range singing at all.

I think Axl's voice can be described like this:

Low voice - This is all good and raspy

Lower pitched mid-range - This is the most complicated part of Axl's voice and the limit of Axl's raspy singing voice. For example Madagascar, Brian Johnson songs and Rock the Rock have a lot of lower pitched mid-range parts. When the pitch gets higher than this Axl needs to scream in order to sound raspy.

Higher pitched mid-range - GNR songs are full of this higher pitched mid-range singing. Brian Johnson songs have none of it. Brian Johnson songs and Rock the Rock switches from lower mid-range chest voice straight to screaming smoothly. That's ideal for Axl's current voice. But trying to use the raspy singing voice in higher pitched mid-range parts is pretty much impossible for Axl these days. Higher pitched mid range works only when Axl's screaming.

High voice - is raspy only when Axl screams

The very highest pitch - There seems to be some problems there. Either it's gone or Axl's avoiding to use it for what ever reasons.

Then there's of course Axl's normal voice, which seems to be fine. I mean the voice that he uses on The Seeker for example. The voice that's not raspy, but not Mickey either. But that's a whole different story.

Awesome explanation. Can you give some examples of non gnr songs with higher pitched mid range?

Anyway, I like the analyses on the last two pages or so, it's pretty accurate. There is basically just one problem: Rock the Rock. This goes to show he can do even the mid section with rasp, without screaming. But that's studio, right? I seriously think if the lengthy touring stopped, he took time off and devoted to his vocal cords, maybe working with the coach again, some 2016 would be possible again.

That's why he should release new music/studio vocals. To show us that he still has some of his talents left.

I'm not so sure. You definitely are right about the VMA'S being watched by WAY more people, plus the fact that crowd was minimal compared to all the musicians/celebrities in attendance so there's that, too.

It's all objective, so to say it was worse or was better, it depends. Axl definitely looked better, but he looked "different" due to it being 18 years ago, of course, his attire, the cornrows, the Botox.

Vocally, the VMA "Jungle" intro alone outdoes that horrendous Sweet Child performance. Axl had a pretty awesome extended scream before it all went downhill, unfortunately but it had other glimpses of greatness.

Madagascar, to me, sounded wonderful. Not because it technically sounded good (he'd sing it MUCH better during the 2002 tour) but it was something new, therefore exciting.

Paradise City was awful, but his "Round 1" shout-out, it showed he had something to prove. He just didn't prove it that night. If they'd have broadcast MSG 2002's "The Blues" or something, it'd have been spectacular.

Just another opinion. I know not many would agree. But really.... At least at the VMA'S, Axl still kinda moved/danced liked Axl, was energetic, got winded but had an excuse. He was running all over the place. The other night, he just sounded flat, no power in a single note. It's depressing to even think about. I feel bad for him. But can he still deliver a great live vocal when/if he wants? Hell yes.

Axl sounds awesome in Nighttrain last night, and the ending of you're crazy. If only he can find some way to use his baritone to do the ballads, it'd be awesome. And even though he sounds horrendous on scom, he holds all the notes till the end. So I didn't lose all hope for his voice.

Up until around 2014 or so, it was really hard for ANYONE to get Classic GnR songs licensed due to Axl still being butthurt at the time. Ridley Scott wanted to use WttJ for Black Hawk Down, and then Axl told his crew that they could only use a newly record version from the lineup at the time (Bucket and co.), and Ridley basically told him to go fuck himself, from what I recall reading.

Is that show still running? If so, I guess there’s always an opportunity to use their songs now.

Makes sense, really unfortunate though. And now they use wttj for both jumanji 2 & 3 :max:. The show is in it's last season, only 10 episodes left. Thanks for replying.

  6. I started watching Supernatural back in 2008, been a fan ever since. It's what got me into claasic rock in the first place. They featured many popular rock songs (be it acdc, rolling stone, lynard skynard), they named their episodes according to rock songs (stairway to heaven, all along the watchtower etc) and the main characters use rock star aliases all thr time (Once used Rose and Hudson in season 8).

So why there are not any gnr songs? I heard they couldnot afford Led Zep, is it the same case with gnr? The price too high?

I really dont like the arrangement they played. And it seems Axl and The Boss couldnt get off stage fast enough. A very cool part of the story of Axl though.

Right, Bruce looked a little bit embarrassed after the song. Axl looked at him after waving at the crowd for a moment but he tried to leave as soon as possible lol. For me it's a cool rendition. Not like MJ or Gary Cooper Jr but as an Impromptu, it's good.

or smart marketing. Every little bit helps. It's also business. Slash is an icon and will become a legend so I guess he must have done something right.

It is not smart to become a sellout. And he is considered a legend, long before this, with gnr stuffs alone. There'd no need for this puff daddy/ tomorrowland dj bullshit.
