  1. Catherine Zeta Jones. She's been in many mediocre films, but I've never seen her in a role which she's not excelled in. Her singing in Chicago was an absolute treat. She's happy to take on roles which are a bit self-depracating as well, such as in Rock of Ages. Massively reliable for a decent performance.

  2. I don't buy fried chicken. Growing up, it just never came into my family's radar. A takeaway was either fish and chips or a frozen pizza from the village's only shop.

    Subway wins. :)

  3. can anybody say anything bad about something like UP? Other than the stupid fucking dog that is.

I've refused to watch Up since Sandman gave me a brief review of it.

    Aladdin FTW.

What did Sandy not like about it?

I don't think he disliked it; just knew that I probably didn't have the balls for it. ;)

I don't like watching anything that might involve me too much emotionally. I cry like a baby at the end of Thelma and Lousie, every single time I see it.

  4. ohlovelyrita, I don't know where you're from, but the Daily Mail is the UK's least respected newspaper, despite it also being the most read. There probably isn't anyone here who neither reads the Mail nor fully aligns themselves with its editorial style or core values. If you wish to cupcake us, you have certain freedoms to however all I ask is that you don't cupcake us with the Daily Mail's website of pseudo news, scaremongering and boringness.

    Thank you!

  5. No, it's really difficult to get the calorie count of many food products, for example fresh packed meats and fruit and veg. Going online hardly helps as my apple is likely to be a different size and variety to whichever apple they used as an example.

It takes a little common sense to know what's going to do you good and what isn't. :)

  6. There's many different levels of Christian Rock. Many evangelical-style churches have produced worship bands that have had varying degrees of commercial success, mostly within Christian culture, some beyond. Other bands are closer to U2, with music with spiritual references written by religious people. I do not consider U2 Christian Rock, though people love to pigeonhole.

    And then there's Stryper...

Btw, I really enjoy Mehida for heavy Christian rock.

  7. I was at Download the day AC/DC played. I listened to them from my tent rather than watching them.

Regret not seeing the Spice Girls on their reunion tour, just to fulfill a childhood dream, embarrassing as it is.

I've had tickets for Lenny Kravitz and Black Label Society but couldn't make it for various reasons.

Would love to have seen Black Country Communion when they were around however Guns N' Roses are going to release an album before they reunite.

Finally, my Dad always said "Go see Amy Winehouse...she'll be dead in a few years". I never did and incidentally was momentarily living in Camden the day she died.

  8. Yoko.

Her contribution to the visual arts has been profound, movement-defining and arguably more thoughtful than any other high-profile contemporary artist. It's sad that most people regard her as 'John Lennon's wife' or 'the person who split up the Beatles'. She has contributed to the arts more than she ever potentially damaged it.

Can you give some of what you think are the best examples of this?

I'm away from home this weekend, with my iPad so can't post any photos (and this argument is seriously stifled by photos). If this thread is still alive by Sunday, I shall.

As a general overview, she's contributed so much as she's got one of the longest careers in Art, spanning from pre-Warhol to the present day. She's 80 and still working, when there's never been a necessity for her to work since the '60s. She's worked very hard, remained relevant and remained highly commercial. Her art provides food for thought and dramatic discussion. Because she's so old, she's had many contemporaries which have come and gone, so it's difficult to compare her reasonably. Her work has inspired other artists. The 90s saw a massive trend for introspective art, which flung the likes of Hirst and Emin to fame. This has really saturated the western art culture. Ono's work is more reflective, emotional and has a refreshingly virtuous message.

I'm not saying she's great, or the best, and partially wrote Yoko to cupcake. But as a personal favourite I think if she were really a Beatle (as some regard her) she gets my vote.

  10. Dyke- we use this term for a ditch in the UK.

    Chink- as in armour.

    Fag- as in cigarettes.

Mick- as in Jagger or taking the...

    Kraut- tasty stuff in Germany.

    Guinea- as in Guinea Pig

Lesbo- I wouldn't want to be discussing the island of Lesbos and to be censored.

Negro- as Coma16 said, a term used across many languages to refer to the colour.

Honky- reminds me of a certain Stones song...

As you can see from this list, words have different meanings throughout countries that share a language. Censoring them all for the sake of it would cause more problems than it's worth it. As Black Sabbath said, an abuse of these terms would lead to decisions made on what's acceptable. This is generally quite a moderately-mouthed forum though so there's no need to yet. :)

  11. The city I went to uni in has a house where Black Sabbath stayed for a few months before making it big. It's next door to the Institute for the Deaf, ironically.

Were they the only neighbors that wouldn't complain or did Black Sabbath doing their thing make the neighbor's place what it is now?

I like to think that Ozzy and co did their bit to help the deaf. :)
