  1. I prefer the rhythm on the demo - there's a very cool lead by Robin (left channel) at the ending before May's ending solo. I miss that a lot. Aside from that, the album version is far superior IMHO.

I prefer Brian's solo. I'm also not at all a fan of Ron's fretless stuff at the beginning. CITR is the only song where I prefer them demo over the final version.

    What fretless at the beginning?

  2. Better also had drop-D. And as far as I remember, TWAT is standard Eb.

Cool to see Fortus barithone guitar. Seems heavy.. He bought it back in 2003 or 2004, I guess. He even said back then that it was for songs like Oh My God and Silkworms.

  3. has video of this been posted yet?

I would hope for mods to delete if someone posts it

Well, if anything, a video of it would be cool for the 1st half when there was no problems at all and it was just him having fun.

Also, he played Riad N' The Bedouins from the very begining till half of his solo (he stopped because it he would need his fretless). And it was fucking awesome. Id love to hear it again..

  4. It's official , "Wasted" is the king of this topic. If I could change the topic starter to you good sir , I gladly would. I can totally see what your saying now with the Nine Inch Nails and Better thing. Just needed the song examples I guess. As for songs like TWAT, Locomotive, Estranged, and Coma all the true epic songs in GNR's back catalog are there any other bands in the world you can think of that write songs even remotely similar to those in size or scope?

TWAT for me always soundeda bit like Scar Tissue by Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but with far more deep theme and sound directions. Is something like a road trip soundtrack.

But really, I think the band was after his own sound. Theres no mainstream rock music out there with this level both in guitar work and overall deep meaning and layers.

  5. Yeah, I was there since the very begining. He even played Riad after I asked for it.. Then it began the spamming and it all went downroad.

No, he's not ok. Anyone here who say otherwise is clearly just being a fucking awful person, because its very sad how his life is falling apart. I feel for the guy and trully wish he finds his way through all this shit without any more harm.

  6. I believe Prostitute would have some influence of Smashing Pumpkins and Moby clearly at the ending.

IRS kinda reminds me of Aerosmith's Dream On because of the chord progression. But that's it, no real influence, I guess.

Despite of many claims and the fame that CD has gotten (even before coming out) I can't see any clear NIN influence on it.

And even because Robin has never written stuff in NIN.

Agreed. There's really no industrial flavor aside from some keyboards textures there.

Having said that, I do think the Immigrant Song covered by Trent Reznor song with Karen O do sound a bit like Riad because of the intro, vocals and drums.

  7. She needs a touch of auto tune. I wish GNR would record a proper studio version of this song. Great lyrics.

I think she did just great, its not an easy task to emulate Axl's original pitch. Also, we had lot of work to make it sounding like a real band even though it was just me and Josee, wouldnt be fair to cheat with an auto tune.

  8. From what I could hear in this video and that one from Rock in Rio soundcheck, I could make two things out of it:

    - Frank is playing more like Josh Freese than Brain in this one;

    - Bumble's guitar work after the solo sounds almost exactly like what Bucket played in 2001

I'd say the song sounds awesome, but not that different from the 2001 live version - which is good to me. I hope they play it and people actually record it!

  9. What are some of the more valuable items these hoarders have in the "vault"? Three things that come to mind that we know are out there for sure:

    - Checkmate/Jackie Chan song

    - That first concert at House of Blues, 01/01/01

    - 2002 VMA rehearsal video

    What else?

Music videos for Better, Street of Dreams, etc.

    Something called "BetterGone.mp3"

And yeah, there was some talk about the country of Portugal having some unheard songs...

Music videos? I strongly doubt its being hoarded. At least I never heard anything about it other than Axl himself talking about it and that guy who produced it (I think his nickname is Rage or something).

About Portuguese fans, heard about people having Atlas Shrugged. At least thats what one guy that claimed at CD.com or HTGTH, can't remember that well.. He claimed the song was something like glam rock, I guess.

Also, by 2007, when MSL tricked them into leaking those songs, they talked about an alternate version of Better with accoustic guitars. I can't remember screen names, but I guess one of them was Lourenço, he was the owner of gnrsucks.com and was well known in the GNR boards at that time. If it was not him, sorry for mistaken his name.

The music videos and the mp3? MisterSaintLaurent has them.

I don't think MSL has jackshit. If anything, he had information about tracks.

  10. Are you one of those that preface every thought with "In my opinion"? You're you. That implies you have a subjective opinion. Like the rest of the 7 billion inhabitants on Earth.

In other news - rain is wet, tits are great, and Chinese Democracy bombed.

If it was just YOUR opinion, your whole post wouldnt make sense. You stated about the quality of the songs to justify the amount of time spent, as if it was a fact for anyone.

Its really easy to bitch about anything and then say "hey, it was just IMHO". Cry me a river, youre not happy about how it sounded and then complains that it didnt suit your needs or anyones. And, like I said, dont even start with the sales thing - who the fuck cares if people didnt buy Chinese Democracy? Im not worried about it, I bought it and I enjoyed it, thats what matters to me and it doesnt imply the songs werent great at all. Just like you said:

I completely agree fans matter more than public consensus. You enjoy the album, and it's all that really matters. Who cares if the clerk at IHOP thinks Madagascar sucks? It doesn't affect your experience.

    Exactly.

But look at it this way - why is there no news for Chinese Democracy 2? Why is Axl so cautious about releasing more music? Why are there fewer Chinese songs on the setlist? At Rock In Rio, they had a chance to make a statement. They could have played a song from the new album. So what new song does Axl add to the set?

    A song from 1991.

Ok, let me see: there's lots of buzz about writing, recording and releasing new stuff now, but somehow you think Axl is just cautious about releasing more music? The band playing half of the album to crowds still against pretty much anything new (from tracks to band members) is because he had no confidence? The awful conditions on Rock in Rio, where everything was going wrong, made the right place to debut a new song?

Look, I've been around for quite some time. I know Axl isnt really the easiest guy to like and to be a fan of. I dont like everything the band does (I still dislike much of what Ashba plays). But the last couple of years werent bad at all. If anything, the band is doing better in getting their shit togheter after so much bitching and complaining and everything is pointing right now to a brighter future. Not the Illusions kind of sucess, but at least something for the fans to enjoy other than years of silence.

  11. A. And longer than [original GNR members] were in the [expletive] band. (Laughs.) That’s [expletive] funny.

Longer then the original members and much less output. Good on you Tommy. I'm all for the new band but when the current members shit on the old, it's not cool. So Tommy thinks being a replacement in a band longer than the original members that started it(sans Axl) is better... Yeah... Much like when he talked shit about Buckethead, the guy should just not do interviews.

You really made an effort for making this shit up, dont you?

Where did you find in that quote anything about being longer than original members was better? Or that he was shitting on the old band?
