What are you being so pissy for? I'm merely re-stating what I want in this tour, and I did that before your post.
If anything, you're taking me up wrong.

Axl should bring back the rocking chair and recite some poems with Slash playing licks and fills throughout the reading. It could be an hour long Fat duo spot with Slash bringing out poisonous snakes for the crowd to interact with.
Cause they're old. Sounds like you still expect them to be something they're not anymore, or not driven to be as far as Axl is concerned. In a nutshell:
1. it's also his job, can't fuck up his voice, it's tunes he sang for decades, and he won't rehearse for Gn'R shows. He even said he likes to sing Chinese the best. Means the old shit not as exciting. It's not a passion project like AC/DC was.
2. the shit they can do to make the show feel more vibrant for hardcore fans is limited without a new release.
3. live, it's all a means to an end. More Stones territory nowdays so it's more structured, providing the casuals what they want is a main goal. Axl doesn't care as much about the quality of his live performances as he does about studio material and he wants to make more money so this is what you get.
If you want to cash in, cash in, don't self destruct.
What is wrong with expecting them to be more interactive? Talk a bit, jam a bit, change the set list a bit... Bruce Springsteen is 10 years older than these guys and pulls this off at every show he does. GNR once had personality, now..?
You don't have to be young to have humor, humility and warmth.
They are not self destructive traits.

they might vomit harder if they saw their 50 yr old selves trying their best to act like their 20 yr old selves based on a bunch of fans expecting them to exist in a time warp. Although having said that their 20 yr old selves might see just that in the current incarnation too.
I don't expect them to exist in a time warp, I'm 46 and I know only too fucking well that it ain't possible. I've whinged about this before, I want a rock show with some lowering of the facade. This has been the biggest reunion in recent rock history with not one reference to it from "The machine".
I think Slash, Duff and Axl had so much chaos in their musical careers that at this stage in life they are driven to have a super controlled, almost medicinally accurate performance band that never fucks up or comes off script. I had hoped for a Metallica meets Bruce Springsteen type of set up with lots of hard rock , great stories, warmth, humility and humanity.
I'm glad they are happy and working together but they have charged from a Dodge Viper into a Lexus RC... Pretty? Yes. Precise? Yes. Well crafted? Yes. Enjoyable? Absolutely. Exhilarating?..not so much.

1 hour ago, wasted said:Axl won.
Please. This shit belongs in a school yard 15 years ago. He did "win" but at a huge cost to his own career. They all missed the boat because of their collective arrogance and stupidity.
How did the artist within any of them "win"?
I bet their 20 year old selves would vomit if they saw their 50 year old selves waddling around stage with some chick on keyboards with blue hair and and love heart pajamas...

I was very happy to see the quasi-reunion but was surprised to see myself completely loose interest to the point where I don't watch or listen to any of the gigs now.
I realise now that as a fan from the old days (I'm 46) I had hoped that a real happy ending would come and the entire AFD / UYI line ups would go out in tour together and make the whole thing a celebration of their insane history and accomplishments.
It was a hopeless sentimental dream and nothing more.
I was delighted to see the warmth between Axl & Slash in the early days but like many of you, as the months rolled by I started to feel that this is a well oiled cash machine rather than any real attempt to reconnect with each other and the fans on a more emotional level. Axl has nothing to say to the crowd, no interviews together, the rest of the team bust out the same set list every night... I guess I had hoped for more of an old school RNR experience, more emotion, more warmth, more story telling, more jams, more laughs, more shout outs, ... I didn't expect it to be 1989 again but I had hoped these guys would be more Spingsteen in their approach to the live experience rather than a Vegas strip style show.
I found Axl's "what the fuck is he doing here" comment to Stephen hard to read. Stephen wasn't staggering around, he was with his wife and family, its a shockingly belittling way to talk to the guy, especially now that all the shit between them was meant to be over. Its sad that with all of this renewed success and acclaim that Axl is not more magnanimous.
People say that it doesn't matter that Izzy and Stephen and Matt are not there, I think it does. Gigs with a fantastic vibe are what give you life memories and bring you back again. I saw the original band in 1991 in Germany, the gig was chaos as Axl walked off for an hour early into the show but he came back to deliver and the memories of the vibe in the gig are what I remember as much as the tunes.
People say Axl is not about the money, fine. My problem is that now Axl is always about control and I think it has smothered the spirit of this band, its too easy to know in advance what you're going to get every night and when you're going to get it.

some people are genuinely freaked out by all of that stuff and take it very seriously. Niven is obviously uncomfortable about using the devil or his symbols in any context and there are some pretty odd stories out there about how that shit got real for some folks...like the set of the Exorcist. http://www.blumhouse.com/2015/12/02/is-the-exorcist-movie-cursed/
Lots of people in the industry were rumored to be fucking around that area and getting the shit scared out of themselves: http://www.daimonologia.org/2016/01/david-bowies-encounter-with-devil.html
But, for fuck's sake, Angus is a pensioner running around in velure shorts,...its always been a Spinal tap version of "satanism" its obviously a fucking joke.
Niven comes across as a jackass here. But he may have been through something that scared him..

I'm pretty much indifferent to MSL generally but he keeps saying that business-wise this is not a reunion, more of an Axl's GNR with two of the old guys allowed back in.
I think on some levels that's correct. Both Duff & Slash have said that they let go of GNR a long time ago so who knows..maybe they are there for the easy money, the adulation and none of the hassle. Let Axl hire and fire who he likes, once they get paid. Maybe they are so long divorced from the GNR name that they don't really care all that much any more.
-
The silly old romantic in me wanted the original 5 with Sorum together from day 1.
I have found the hard focus on the cash a bit off putting, especially as all the main men have plenty of the stuff anyway.
I would love for them to be doing this for the band, its name, fans, music and unique place in history but part of me fears that its a little of these things but mostly for the cash.
Still...Slash, Duff AND Axl on stage together again...fuck me!!
-
Remember that Duff and Slash now have perfectly successful Axl free lives to return to if Axl wants to spend a year mulling over vocals for any collaborations they hand him.
Axl has no legal or moral hold over the guys anymore so if he wants to take his sweet time on some tunes, who in the band gives a shit?
I'm betting that Slash goes straight on the road with the Conspirators to promote his 3rd album while the GNR afterglow is white hot after this tour. He should see a big upswing in sales and concert attendance as a result. Duff will probably do another album and release another No. 1 book.
When Axl feels ready to release their new album, they'll be back to ride the money juggernaut right out that gate with him.
Its really a win win for them all.

If either side start asking to have their CD or VR material inserted then I think they have massively misunderstood what the excitement about this reunion is about in the first place.
This is about AFD and the UYIs, its not about anything else.
Management and the band should ignore this fact at their peril.

When is that Axl pic from? He has no beard. Haven't seen that in years!
he looks shockingly out of shape.
looks like nothing is important enough to keep him out of the cookie jar..

My point makes complete sense. If you actually read what id said, you'll notice I said nothing about Matt being able to play the Chinese stuff. To be honest with you I think Steven could cover it fine as well and frankly even if he butchered it, no one would care. I just think that this is the way axl sees it, frank is a good player and a guy that brings no stress to the situation. He's been in the and 10 years. I just don't think axl wants to necessarily throw him away. Frank wasn't on the use your illusion songs either but it's not like he butchers those songs. IMHO he's butchered the beginning to mr brownstone, but again, that's appetite and as I already stated that may be where Adler is involved. Also, they could justify it as sorum and frank both being replacement guys but frank you don't have to worry about PR wise where as sorum has a tendency to run his mouth.
Hang on - first, CD is not hard to play drum wise - Matt could handle it in his sleep.Well some people are ignoring some facts.. Because it's true. Frank knows the whole GNR collection. Axl doesn't want To completely throw away the Chinese era after all the work put into it. And since people would probably pay more money to see Steven it makes Sense. So this way they don't have to throw away frank and can work Steven in for the appetite era. I just don't think they're going to have room for 3 drummers.
Second, Frank wasn't even on CD!
Your point about now wanting to "completely throw away the Chinese era" makes no sense...How the fuck does keeping the replacement drummer somehow keep CD in the picture???
Last, nobody gives a shit about the CD era, look at the media, you'd swear GNR hadn't played since 1993.
Even if they did care, there would be FAR more excitement seeing Slash play something off that album than any one of the guitar players that has come and gone in the last 20 years.
When Eddie trunk interviewed Steven Adler in September and Eddie was explaining to Adler what he heard about the GNR reunion, Adler said "yeah I wouldn't mind sharing the stage with Matt" and Eddie responded with "idk if it'll be Matt" so.. I don't know how seriously he was ever considered but we all know slash and duff have brought it up with axl
You said that "Frank knows the complete collection" - I took that to mean that to you feel Frank has more than the others to offer Axl i.e. he can play CD, hence my comment on playing.
So I actually did read what you said..carefully.
Citing that as a reason to keep him is not really the best one there, that was my point.
NiceGuy is right about all of the hybrid shit - Axl gets to keep his three guys to save face.
If it was a full reunion, with all the "NuGNR" guys gone it would be seen as a final declaration of surrender for Axl and even now at fifty something years old, he's not man enough to do the right thing and get the historically accurate versions of "Classic GNR" together for a full reunion because he can't bear to be seen as a capitulator.
From what I saw at the RNRHOF, I don't believe that Duff and Slash would want this the way it is being presented but maybe they are the only ones Axl invited in and its a chance to make a TON of cash and ride the Big Money Train just one more time.
If I was their management I would point out that they could recast their legacy and make a pile of money by bringing Matt & Stephen along, sure it would cost more but with the kind of money floating around its easily handled. If Stephen fucks up, he goes home and Matt handles the entire gig. Matt plays piano and guitar, so there is a shit load he could be doing on stage while Stephen played the AFD tunes.

Slash's profile is going back to the top of the business again, it should drag some new fans into his solo stuff - this could actually bump up Myles' career...

Don't know about Matt but there's no way in the world Adler is not going to be involved! Do you really think he would be sitting home going oh damn am not going to be playing in the reunion gigs oh well shit happens. If that was the case he would be on social media going off his head big time. But instead there is nothing from him
That's the thing mate, Stephen is saying zero - not like him at all. If he was in he'd be shouting about it all day "I LOVE MY GNR BROTHERS", if he's out he'd be standing on a ledge somewhere with 15 TV crews and a bunch of the public nervously looking on...
The silence is so not like him..

Now that Slash is back in the band Guns will release a record every other year.
I think that could be actually close to reality. Put Duff and Slash in a room with Axl's vault and let them re -do all the tracks.
There are a ton of finished songs that both men could be working on.
They could probably knock an album together in 4-6 months.
They would like to do it, but Axl is known for procrastinating.
For sure, but if the vocal and piano are done...
-
Maybe I'm being too romantic about this but I'd actually pay more to see this GNR show if both drummers got their day in the sun with Izzy at the shows also.
This is a great, great story as it is, but man it would be a really stellar one if these guys really could drop the shit, play fair with each other and bring those who played on AFD and the UYIs together on a stage for those that loved them and that era to see. They made history, they should try to be true to that history just to leave the record straight.
There are things that bother me here, despite the fact that I'm fucking elated that they will play together again.
1. Which Guns is this?
Is it the old GNR business unit that Slash, Duff and Axl owned or Axl's one that he left the old band to create?
My feeling is that its the later as Matt is out and Izzy has cold feet.
2. Why has Izzy cold feet?
He said he'd do a reunion before, what does he know that is keeping him away? I'm willing to bet its the following:
- No Stephen
- Axl demanding some nuGuns people stay
- Multiple sets of management teams , TB for Axl and whomever else for Duff and Slash respectively. There is potential for massive conflicts.
- Duff and Slash agreeing the above terms to access the big pay days.
3. Why is Matt out?
Like him or hate him, he was there, he's immortalised on the UYIs and unlike poor old Stephen, he hasn't lost the professional trust of his old band mates.
4. Was this ever even a "reunion"?
Did Axl & TB just decide that they will live a whole lot better for the next 20 years if they swallow the venom and ask Slash & Duff to come in for a couple of years? Is it actually business as usual at GNR, just this time they got the old guys in instead of yet more new people?

I am interested in sincere opinions, not the "cause he's an asshole" ones..
He was at the RNRHOF, he's far less of a fuck up that Stephen, he appeared on more albums than Stephen so why get so completely frozen out?
I thought him and Axl were cool?
Surely this creates major shit with Duff & Slash? They are supposed to be friends after all.
I'd like him there along with Izzy to be true to the band's history - obviously King Axl is still calling the shots..
Has anybody heard a reaction from him as of yet?
-
Once Duff was on tour with Axl I started to believe that peace talks would begin.
Axl was elated with Duff there, it was obvious, the crowds were bat shit crazy for them too, that can't have been missed by the band.
Axl respects the man obviously so it had to happen that he would have been asking after Slash etc if both men were hanging out and talking about old times (which Duff said they did).
I bet Duff opened a lot of communication lines and got things started. In 2011, Slash said about this call.
"All things considered, that would be a call I would be surprised to get. If that really happened, I would have to clean out my junk drawer, too, but I don't see it happening. But if it did happen, I would do whatever it takes to at least have a conversation about it."
so this must have come to pass...
I would say that the guys knew for sure something was up but were probably told via the grapevine that things were happening.
DJ has enough going on to walk away in a classy fashion which he did, Bumble seemed more desperate and let himself down whinging all the way out the door while being even more cryptic and media paranoid than TB, which surprised me as I though he was a class act.
-
Izzy would do it even without Steven... He was in the first version of velvet revolver with Matt... I cross my fingers that he's in the reunion.
Gnr fans know how izzy is important for the sound, for the soundwriting, for the band alchemy...
I totally acknowledge Izzy's contributions to the band's success. He may have been involved with Velvet Rervolver initially, but that's not GN'R. Just wonder if Izzy Sees GN'R as the original 5. He said it wasn't the same after the band lost their 'swing' (Steven).
Personally, I'm surprised and disappointed that its looking like a hybrid. Duff seemed so moved by the appreciation of the original band at the RNRHOF, I though he'd go all out for the originals.
Where does this leave Matt's friendship with Duff, they seem close still.

GNR alumni are not the most dangerous rockers in the world anymore, they are fifty something year old men with more baggage than your average airport to manage and pay for right up until they die, presumably in their 70's or 80's. That's a lot of outlay for many years ahead.
Albums don't sell so Axl's "artistic vision" isn't going to pay the bills
What sells are concert tickets and merc.
Simple Really.
Axl was driving the value of the GNR name down and he knew it, there are so many bands from his era playing 300 club shows a year just to pay alimony, at the rate he was going, he'd be there with them in less than a decade, especially if his vocals continued to decline from overuse and his band became less accomplished and more anonymous.
Then Duff and the promoters show up, offering $3M a gig, the majority of which gets split 3 ways with the back-line musicians just getting a salary.
Axl, Slash & Duff could be making between $500K and $700K each gig at say - 2 gigs a week?
If everybody can shut the fuck up and do their jobs, these guys could make $30M a piece out of this over the next year alone. They may even go on to make another $30M if they can stay together and release a hit album like Contraband.
That kind of money will bury any pretentions around artistic vision when you're starting down a decade that ends with you being sixty fucking years old. Private medical care, alimony, education costs for your kids , staff, cars, planes, holidays, nest eggs for the kids....whether you like it or not, that all becomes more important than whether people like the tunes you wrote or not.

Looks like many of us here have been there.
I've been through this, having been the first relative in 7 years through the door to my uncle's corpse after he shut himself away in the original family home to drink Jameson full time.
He refused all help and visits.
We remembered the good guy that was but we were all fucked off with him for drinking the insurance policy on the house and leaving my Dad & I the bill to bury him, clean out the family home which was destroyed...blood and shit on some of the walls, bottles every where, collapsed roof, garden with years of all sorts of shit in it.
It took weeks and cost us thousands.
If my uncle was a famous musician and people were talking about how he died because he was "too sensitive" I'd have been pretty quck to point out the damage and hassle this "sensitive" person caused those around him who did nothing wrong except be related to him.
Mary is doing the same here and to me that appears justified, especially if her kids support the letter.
BUT if she drove Scott to this point by demanding a whopping $60K a month (not officially confirmed but mentioned by Scott) then I think she should be ashamed of the shocking hypocrisy of her opening paragraph.
Many people say he was exhausted, going broke and depressed. $60K a month will do that to a man.
Sure he was a fucking idiot for messing up his two chances..(imagine if he was doing STP and VR like Myles?? The $$$$...) If he was sane, he should have been well able to afford such a payment but that was clearly not the case.
Was he shown some kindness by her in this matter?
It'll all come out eventually but sadly won't change a thing.
The man is dead and his two women and two kids are in a bad place today.
